How do i sync my i-Pod to a new computer/music library?

My i-Pod had been linked to a computer I no longer have. I've uploaded all of my songs (plus several new ones not on my i-Pod) onto a new computer with a new version of i-Tunes and now I want to sync up my i-Pod to this new computer. How do I do this? What will happen when I connect my i-Pod to the new i-Tunes - will it automatically overwrite the songs currently on my i-Pod? The new i-Tunes won't let me set a preference for manual updates b/c I haven't yet connected my i-Pod to my i-Tunes. I am also concerned that my i-Pod is running on software last updated in September 2005 and don't know if this will interfere with my syncing. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated!

Which iPod do you have?
What will happen when I connect my i-Pod to the new i-Tunes - will it automatically overwrite the songs currently on my i-Pod?
Yes.
Just plug in theiPod. Whenit asks to use this library on this iPod, click Yes.
It will overwrite what it on the iPod and put the library from the computer onto the iPod.

One of the reasons to include your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data that is kept separate from your laptop - not carried in the same case, etc.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iDevice, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If you are in the US, you can do this now as well.

If you still have Access to the Old Computer or its Backup...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

You can only sync with one iTunes library. However, you can manage music and videos among different computers. See:

  • TS1382 I have a new computer, how do I sync my Ipod Classic to the new computer

I have a new Dell computer, how do I sync my Ipod Classic to the new computer

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
Or better yet, if you still have access to the old computer, use one of the method described in this article copy everything from the old PC to the new one.

  • How can I sync my ipod 6g. to a new computer with out losing all the info

My computer is starting to fail so I bought a new one. How do I sync my ipods they are 6 gen to the new computer with out losing all the data that is on the ipod?

Was your iPod previously set up to Manually Manage (where you dragged/dropped the music) or was it set to auto sync (where it started sycning as soon as you plugged it in.)?
If it was set to Manual, you have no worries. Just continue on your way.
If it was set to Auto, you will have to transfer your purchases or redownload them from the iTunes store.
You're either going to have to get the other music back from the websites/CDs you got them from before or find an iPod ripping software program that will do it for you.

  • How can I sync my iPod Touch to a new computer?

My Laptop's hard drive died: that's bad enough, but my data was backed up onto my iPod Touch, including some very rare tunes that I can't ever get again. I then installed iTunes onto my wife's desktop, but now I'm told that if I want to sync the iPod, I have to delete everything that's on it as the iPod is already synced to another computer - which now doesn't exist.
I thought that backing up my rare music to my iPod made it safe; it was on my hard drive and my iPod. Now I'm told that if I want to sync my iPod to another computer I have to delete its contents. I can't afford to lose the music, because I can't replace it. Surely this can't be right?
Incidentally, because I can't sync my iPod I have missed at least 2 appointments because my calendar isn't updated.
I understand that Apple are worried about data being copied from one computer to another, but surely there must be a way to register a new computer as one to which I should sync?.

This program can rescue your rare music for only US$25:  http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php

  • How can I sync apps again after getting a new computer without deleting?

HI folks. So I had to reinstall my computer but I have a backup of everything on a hard drive. My question is what I need to copy over to make sure that my apps can sync again without deleting my apps on my iPad currently. Every time I got to check the apps for sync it tells me the ones on my iPad will be deleted which I do not want. Looking for assistance. Thanks.

Itunes remembers what u have downloaded (free and paid apps) so if u have to 'authorize' the computer again as a new computer, (u r allowed 5) itunes will just reinstall apps and app info eg saved games scores etc will be still there after restore or update.

  • How do I sync my current iPod to my new computer? (same iTunes account)

I've had my iPod touch for a few years, had it connected to my old laptop but I recently got a new laptop. I downloaded iTunes on my new computer and signed in to my account. I had some music downloaded from somewhere other than iTunes and I moved all those files to the new laptop's iTunes library; and there is also some new songs that I purchased from the iTunes store on this computer that are not on my old computer or my iPod. I tried syncing my iPod with my new laptop and it connect and I click sync and it goes through the 3 steps, yet none of the new music has transferred over. I'm not sure if there's something wrong here or if there's something I have to do. Please help!

It was just the button at the bottom that said "sync" so i clicked that and it said like step 1 backing up step 2 preparing to sync and step 3 syncing yet none of the new music synced. and i went onto the tab that says music and i clicked on the box that said sync all music but it went way down to like 700 songs when i actually have over 2000 in the library. so i canceled that and didnt go through with it because i dont want to click the wrong button and lose alot of my music

  • How do I sync My classic 160g to a new computer without losing music?

I have had my classic synced to the same PC for about 4 years or so. The PC is outdated, and I am finally getting rid of it as I built it over 10 years ago. I want to sync my Ipod to my newer laptop, but do not want to lose any of my music, as some of it was loaded by CD's that I may or may not have anymore. Can someone help me? Thanks!

The best solution is to move all the music to a removable hard drive, and then connect that hard drive to the new computer. If you keep the music at the same path and drive letter, you can probably just move over your .itl files just fine. I did that when I replaced my PC with a laptop, and had no problems.

  • How do I sync my old iPad to my new computer?

I recently broke my old laptop, and there is some old music on my iPad which I am trying to transfer onto my new laptop (Windows 7).
I don't have the original CD for the music, nor is it available to purchase (and before anyone says anything - it was obtained LEGALLY!)
At the moment, whenever the option to sync my iPad's music comes up, it warns me that I will end up erasing everything on my iPad - which I don't want.
    Help? Advice?

The music sync is one way - computer to ipad.  The only exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything on the new computer.
