How do I sync my iPad to a new itunes on a computer

My sons pc installed a new iTunes, overwriting iTunes. Now his iTunes is empty. His iPad still has all his songs and apps on it. We backed up his iPad to iCloud. How do I get his iPad info onto his iTunes? If I go to sync his iPad to his nw iTunes, it wants to wipe his iPad clean.
Help?

You need to transfer purchases into iTunes. If you follow the instructions in this discussion - you should be able to transfer all of the purchased content into the new iTunes library on the computer.

  • How do I sync my iPad with a new iTunes library without erasing all the previously purchased apps & data on my iPad?

I'm sure this is a common issue, and I've google-searched for solutions but I cannot find a straight forward answer anywhere. I really hope an expert here can help me out.
I purchased an iPad last year and synced it with my iTunes library on my old PC laptop. Well, my PC laptop harddrive crashed last week and I cannot access anything on my laptop anymore. I did not make a back-up for my PC harddrive either. I know, next time I should make a back-up and I will. But that's irrelevant. The PC is gone now.
I replaced my PC this week with a brand new Mac Book Pro. Excited about my new purchase, I quickly hooked up my iPad with the hopes of easily transferring and accessing my iPages, iNumbers, and other productivity iPad apps seamlessly to my new beautiful Mac Book Pro. But now I've run into the nightmarish dilemma of not being able to sync my beloved Ipad with my new MAC without getting the warning that basically says "your iPad is already synced with another iTunes Library. You may only sync to one iTunes Library at a time. You will lose all your data if you sync to this new computer."
Can someone give me a straightfoward answer as to how I can sync my iPad with my new iTunes Library on my new Mac Book Pro without losing any of the apps that I previously purchased? I want to be able to access the apps I downloaded on my iPad on my Mac Book Pro.
    Thanks so much!!!!!!

While it isn't as easy to just use a Mac iDevice as media storage as Android and Windows, you can add documents and such like Word, PDF and others manually in iTunes to have them sync as well.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such a reason.  Use your backup copy to put everything on the new computer.

how do i sync my ipad to my new computer without losing all my apps that are on the ipad

This should be a pretty good guide for setting up the iPad with a new computer and for keeping your content.
Don't forget to authorize the new computer as well. Launch iTunes and go to Store>Authorize this Computer.

    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Make sure that you move your iTunes library from the old computer to the new one as well for all of your music.
Here is an article that can help you with that.

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, matching the device content to the content on the computer, except purchased content as mentioned above.  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing):
    - Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/
    - Phoneview - http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/

In general do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining a backup of your media on a computer backup.

You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year.  It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you.  Items that it does not find in the catalog it'll upload and store these in the cloud for you and you can download them on your devices.  See http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

To have  EVERYTHING  as it is Now...
    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

  • How can I sync my iPad with a new laptop (same itunes account) and not lose all my app data, i.e. games data stored on the ipad, not the app itself?

I want to sync my iPad with a new laptop, so I can get rid of the old computer.  I have already downloaded all the itunes content on the new laptop, but when i go to sync, it tells me that itunes will erase and copy all the apps from the new library.  The 2 computers are on the same account, so is there a way to copy the apps (including app data) onto the new laptop, instead of vice versa?

  • How do I sync my iPod to a new iTunes library on a new computer?

    Here's what's going on:
I had to get a new laptop. I was able to backup my library to iTunes because I had recently bought a program called CopyTrans that lets you back up your entire iPod to iTunes. So everything that is on my iPod is now in my library, playlists and all.
However, iTunes will not let me sync my iPod. In order to sync my iPod, I have to got to each section and check that box that says "Sync Music", "Sync Podcasts", etc. But then a message pops up saying that in order to sync these things, it will remove everything from my iPod and sync from my iPod.
I guess what I'm asking is, can I trust this? I mean, since I was able to copy what's exactly on my iPod onto my library? I just don't like the idea of having iTunes remove everything from my iPod. It sounds sketchy. Also, does anyone know if by doing this will play counts and playlists be affected? Half of my playlists are based on play counts, and I don't want my play counts to reset.
OR if anyone could suggest a way around it, and tell me how to sync my iPod without removing all of my stuff, that would be great too!

If your computer has all the same songs and playlists on it that you have on the iPod connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Erase and Sync". This will erase your iPod and reload it from your new library, once the process is complete your iPod will be in sync and associated with the new iTunes.

  • How can I sync my iphone to a new itunes?

Im trying to sync my iphone with my girlfriends computer on a new itunes that she created for me, but it says i'm synced to another computer.  I have no access to that computer anymore so how do I un-sync from that computer and sync to my girlfriends?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up your phone manually before syncing, you can restore your phone from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Set up your iTunes account, disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
