I've been looking for the past hour, every nook and cranny, for a way to sync some music I just bought from itunes to my ipod. In itunes 10, they had a whole page just for that sort of thing and now nada. Nothing. Zip. If my ipod was able to connect to my wifi (a whole other problem), I'd be falling asleep to my new music right now, but nooo... This is really fustrating, someone please come to my rescue.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

Yes, iCloud is taking place of Mobile Me over time. MM will be turned off in June of next year.

If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are returning to an old iPhone that has been erased and you would like to set it up as a new device without restoring from a backup which would affect the name of your iPhone, as well as the contents therein.
