How do I synch Address Book on an iMac using OSX10.7.5 with a new iPhone 5?
How do I synch an iPhone 5 running version 6.1 OS with the ADDRESS BOOK on an iMac running Snow Leopard OSX 10.7.5? If I enter a new contact in my Address Book on either the iPhone or iMac, that new entry does not appear in the other, nor in the iCloud. I am running the latest version of iTunes. I have tried synching by WIFI and by cable and by turning the iCloud storage backup on the iPhone on and off.

If you're running 10.5.8 as your profile indicates, plug the phone in and look at the info tab for the phone in iTunes. Check the address book sync box.

I installed a hard drive from one PowerPC Dual 1.25 GHz MDD into another one with an older version of the OS X. all my Address Book data are on the older hard drive, from which I now boot the computer. When I launch Address Book as an app on the hard drive with the newer version of the OS, I get an error message that says I cannot run the version of Address Book from the older hard drive on the newer OS. How can I access the data on the older hard drive version of the Address Book app so that I can transfer it to the newer version of the app on the boot drive? The "Import" functionality will not work. I will be grateful for any help I can get. I would also like to uninstall the older version of OS X from the older hard drive.
Boot from the older version of OSX, then in AB use the File>Export>Export vCard after selecting all in AB.
Then boot from the new OSx & use the new AB to import that VCF file. -
how to synch address book?
Fixed this. I made each server individually searchable by my Galaxy. Now I have three accounts that I can combine and scan as one or examine each individually. Very simple. Wish the Galaxy came with a real guidebook, not the flimsy piece of nothing that Sprint gives out. Live and learn.

Had to wipe my drive so I could do a clean install of snow leopard. Now I have look every where on how to move bookmarks, address book and I cal settings. I have them back up on a external drive with Time machine but can not move, copy or restore my old settings. The instructions I have found or no help or needs more clarafication on what to do.

Every time I open Address Book (Lion) it opens to the same vcard with the same name in the search field. How do I keep this from happening? I have tried deleting the vcard, deleting the plist, and importing/exporting my contact. However, the search field contents are alwyas the same - even if I delete the field, close, and re-open. Thanks.

You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. Then you can set your homepage to anything you like.

How do I import address book from time machine backup
My address book was populated on an imac running Lion and I used time machine to back up to an external hard drive.
The imac crashed and I've purchased another one running Mavericks.
How do I import the contents of my address book from the backup on the external drive to the address book on the new imac?
Whenever I try to select or open an earlier version of the address book in the backup applications folder on the external drive, I get a message saying that I can't open the file because it is a time machine backup.
There is also a diagonal line going through the address book thumbnail icon and various other applications in the backup applications folder and I get the same error message informing that these apps are time machine backups.
If you have a solution please be as clear and precise as possible with instructions as I am not a computer boffin.Here's the situation:
I have a G4 with Tiger OS that has 2 years of saved emails and Address Book entries. I just got a G5, installed brand new drives, and did a fresh install of Leopard. I did not use Migration Assistant during the install, because I have no router.
Then I connected the 2 'puters with firewire, and started the G4 in Target Mode, and attempted to Import my old mail and Address Book. I diddled around and was able to import my old mailboxes. I did just realize, though, that only about half the emails were imported; there's a huge gap of nearly a year up until I stopped using the G4.
Also, when I go to the Address Book and try to import my old one, it shows up not as a solid icon that I can select, but a ghostly icon, for lack of a better word, and it will not let me select it.
I really thought this should be easier and less painful. I'm open to suggestions, including whether I should try to use the Leopard install DVD to try the Migration Assistant with a Firewire connection or an ethernet cable.

How do I make Address Book default for vCards
I use Apple Address Book (6.0) and have the Lion O/S 10.7.1on my 2 Macs. My Apple Address book syncs with my Gmail (Google Apps) contacts. Recently when I opened a vCard, Outlook for the Mac attempted to open the vCard. I cancelled this as I no longer us Outlook for the Mac, but have only used Apple Mail and Address Book for several months. As I cancelled the opening process, there was a brief message, "Rebuilding database". About 30 minutes later I realized that all contacts in my Apple Address Book were missing. I quickly looked at my Gmail contacts and saw that the only contact was the one for the vCard I imported. After recovering from a panic attack (I have over 2,000 names in my contact list), I went to my Macbook Air laptop, which was asleep during this time, and was able to export my Address Book to my iMac. The Macbook Air Address Book had synced with Google Apps the day before.
After the recovery, everything seems in order except when I check for duplicates in Google Apps Mail Contacts, I find that I now have 2,000 duplicate contacts. When I check for duplicates in Apple Mail I am told there are 83 duplicates.
I am still not sure what caused this to happen and I am still considering how to prevent this in the future, and how to resolve the duplicate contacts issue. I need to understate which contact list dominates - Apple or Gmail?
But my first step is to make Address Book the default for vCards. How to I do this. Next I will work on the duplicate problem.I don't have or use Outlook 2011 but based on my past experience wth Outlook and Entourage it uses its own contacts by default and can't be configured to use an external resource. However, you might learn more on the Outlook support forums since this forum is primarily for Apple products.

How do I reinstall Address Book
I want to reinstall the Address Book app. I am having major problems with it. Went through all discussions and could not find solutions.
Address Book is empty.
I cannot import any archived file.
I cannot connect to iCloud. It won't add the account
I cannot create a new entry. File > New card does nothing
Here is what I tried :
Reboot
Check and repair permissions
Reinstalled Lion
No change.
But when I start whith another account, it works...

How do i prompt Address Book to sync?

My Address book syncs with Google and vice versa. How do i prompt Address Book to sync once i have updated items within it? i see it syncs here and there on its own accord? whats the prompt? what do i have to do? or why does it sync when it does?. . .from my old address book. (10.4.11) I tried to import the ABBU file into CONTACTS (10.8.2 ) . The drop down warned that this would "replace" the existing contacts. That is what I wanted to do. Writing over the dozen addresses that I had copied from old emails was no big deal, but now those are gone and the address book is EMPTY. The new addresses are gone and the old addresses did not import.

Most tutorials I've seen assume that you have an installation disk, which Lion obviously doesn't have.
I keep getting the message that I cannot delete or change the Address Book as it is an essential app. It seems to be corrupted and I cannot open it at all.No - that didn't work. I have the error message in case that helps:

How can I copy address book content from user 1 to user 2 in my iMac
I have my iMac set up with 2 users. The address book is in user 1. I need to establish a copy of it in user 2 so that the icloud I have set up for that user icludes the address book. How can i copy the address book from user 1 to user 2?
Are you sure you did that right ... because I did a File/Backup Address Book, and the file named included the date. I then copied the file through our Airport network from the Powerbook to a new iMac. The opening Address Book on the iMac, I did a File/Revert to Address Book Backup, which allows you to choose the file. Now the iMac had the same Address Book file as the Powerbook. This looks to me to be the same thing you are trying to do.
