How do I synch my podcasts directly from my MacBook with iPhone/iPad (without iCloud)?

Hi,
I am using an MacBook with iTunes 11.2.2. (3) and an iPhone/iPad with the most recent iOS 7.1.2.
What annoys me is the coud symbole on my iPhone/iPad when I want to listen to my Podcasts. Is there any way to have a direct synchronization of podcasts from my MacBook to my iPhone/iPad? In a nutshell: why do I have to download the same content twice?
Unfortunately, I am sometimes in remote areas without internet/mobile phone coverage. Thus, I would simply get all stuff from my MacBook on my iPhone/iPad without any (unnecessary) detour via the cloud just as in the back old days, when you had to use iTunes for any data transfer to you iPod.
Looking forward to your insights!
Best regards
Torsten

Hi Torsten_75,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  If I'm understanding your question correctly, you want to be able to sync Podcasts directly from your Macbook with your iPhone/iPad.  You can still do that via the iTunes software on your Mac and the Podcasts app for your device:
Podcasts app for iOS: Syncing podcasts
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6202
Mac or PC
Open iTunes and then click the iTunes menu.
Choose Preferences and then click the Store tab.
Place a checkmark next to "Sync podcast subscriptions and settings."
Details on syncing
Enabling syncing for podcasts syncs subscriptions, stations, and play position. Here are the details on everything that syncs.Subscriptions
Subscribing
Syncing podcast subscriptions will download the newest episode for each podcast you are subscribed to (but not previous episodes for that podcast). If you choose to download other episodes for a subscription on one device, they won't automatically download to your other devices. See the transferring section below for more information.
Unsubscribing
If you unsubscribe from a podcast on one device, all of your other devices will unsubscribe to that podcast. If you re-enable a subscription to a podcast, all of your other devices will subscribe to that podcast again.
Deleting
When you delete a subscription on a device you'll also automatically be unsubscribed to it on all of your devices. If you delete a podcast on your iOS device, iTunes on your computer will show the message "This podcast has been deleted from another device, but has saved episodes."
If you click Resolve you'll see the message "Do you want to delete or restore syncing of the podcast?"
If you want to keep any episodes that you've saved on your computer, click Restore Sync on the the dialog box. The subscription will then be added back to your other devices.
If you click Delete, the podcast and all its episodes will be deleted. If you delete a podcast subscription on your computer, it will delete the subscription on your iOS devices including downloaded episodes (unless they're marked as Saved).
StationsWhen you create a station in iTunes on your computer, it will appear on your other devices. If you create a station in the Podcasts app for iOS it will appear on your other devices. Any station settings you change will also sync to all of your devices. If you delete a station on one of your devices, it’ll delete on every other one too.Playback positionPodcasts can remember your playback position between devices and computers so you can always start where you left off. As long as syncing for Podcasts remains on for your iOS device, playback position will sync. However, you'll need to enable this setting in iTunes on your Mac or PC since it's off by default. On your computer
From iTunes pull-down menu select Preferences
Click the Store tab
Enable "Sync playback information across devices." It may take a few minutes for syncing to finish.
Transferring episodes and playlists
Podcast episodes on one device don't automatically download on your other devices. If you want all your downloaded episodes to appear on your other devices, you'll need to sync your iOS devices to your computer over Wi-Fi or with a USB cable.
Connect your iOS device to your Mac or PC with iTunes.
Click the Podcasts tab.
Pick which downloaded podcasts should appear on your iOS devices as well.
To sync an iTunes playlist of podcasts to your iOS devices, place a checkmark next to them under "Include Episodes from Playlists." These playlists will appear in My Stations in the Podcasts app for iOS.
Click Sync.
Cheers,
- Judy

  • How do I transfer photos and music from Tiger Macbook to iPhone 5?

Hi, I am running Tiger 10.4.11, on a Macbook from '09.
Do I have to upgrade my OS to something that will let my computer and my iPhone 5 communicate (specifically, iTunes doesn't see my phone, and iPhoto won't send photos to the phone)?  If so, to what?
Any help would be great!  Thanks in advance!

Yes. You need at least Snow Leopard or later:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • How can I sync all my bookmarks from my macbook to my ipad air?

I just got a new ipad air, but when I went to sync it, it only syncs the bookmarks from my iphone 5 through icloud. I want to keep my devices seperate, as in have seperate bookmarks and seperate apps. Well I figured out the app part of it and how to keep them seperate, but the bookmarks wont sync to my computer. • How can I transfer and store data from my PC on the ipad without using icloud

I am a new user having received the iPad air/2 from my family as an 80th birthday gift. (at my request).
At this stage my principal usage is to transfer photos for PC to show family when visiting. I tried iTunes but it caused many problems with my PC, so I un-installed it. I found an ap which did the job simply and easily via wi fi transfer.
My other main usage is to be able to play my music transferred from my PC to the ipad and held in it's memory so that it can be used even when off line.
In other words iCloud doesn't seem to be able to do this.
I sent myself a song via an email, downloaded it on to the ipad, listened to it, then closed the email.
I cannot now find where that song has got to to retrieve... ipad search says it can't find it.
Basically I want to transfer a folder of music into the ipad and play them back at will.
    Can anyone help me?
Sorry to be so longwinded.. cheers Ted
My PC runs Windows 7 64 bit.
iPad is IOS8 I believe with 64 GB memory.

You shouldn't be worrying about 'hackers'. Apple have good security & so long as you pick good passwords the data should be safe.
There are parts of using iOS & iTunes that requires an Apple ID & iCloud, however you can disable many of the feature you do not need, and avoid syncing any files into iCloud. It can be annoying, but a lot of the services help to make backups easy.
You may want to visit into an Apple store if you are near one, they may try to sell you on the benefits of iCloud (it's kind of their job), but they may also be able to help you get the iPad under control. See if you can get the PC setup with iTunes, that is probably where you need to start.
    Good luck with it

  • How do I transfer an App store purchase from my MacBook to my iPad-WITHOUT an Internet connection?

I live on a boat in an anchorage. My iPad won't connect to the wifi in the anchorage; my MacBook Pro, with an external radio, will make the connection (sometimes). I want to purchase a couple of apps from the App Store and download them to my computer.  I won't be able to connect the iPad to the Internet--ever--but I can of course connect it via USB to the MacBook Pro.  Can I
    - purchase the apps from the App store
    - download the apps to my MacBook Pro
    - disconnect the MacBook from the Internet (it costs about $1 per minute for my connection)
    - sync the iPad to the MacBook
    - transfer the newly purchased apps from the computer to the iPad
Just a reminder--I _can't_ connect the iPad, ever, to the Internet.  The signal just won't reach that far.  I don't want to take either the computer or the iPad on a (wet) dinghy ride to try to get close enough to the wifi hotspot for the iPad to connect (maybe).  Both the iPad and the MacBook Pro are registered to the same ITunes account, but there isn't any way to connect the iPad to iTunes central for their servers to confirm this--only the MacBook Pro can be connected.
I also don't want to erase any info on the iPad--I have waypoints, navigation info, documents, etc., stored in various apps. Do I have to sync first to avoid losing this data?  (Hope it's not cloudy tomorrow and those solar panels will be pulling some amps!)
    Thanks,
    Sue
PS--I have OS 10.6.8  and iTunes 11.0.1 on the MacBook; iOS 6.0.1 on the iPad.

Yes, you should be able to buy/download apps from the iTunes app store on your Mac and then sync them to the iPad - neither the iPad nor the Mac should need to be connected to the internet to sync the apps over to the iPad
If the iPad hasn't been synced to that computer before then you may find this page useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • I want to print directly from a MacBook to HP C310A without a wireless network.

I set up a HP Photosmart Premier C310A in my daughter's dorm.  The University has a campus-wide wireless network and doesn't allow individual wireless networks, so I can't use a wireless router.  She is using a MacBook Pro with MAC OS X.  Is there any way to print directly to the wireless printer without a network connection?

    Yes, there are two ways:
    1. With a USB cable (even a long one).
    2. Connect to the printer's own wifi signal and print through that.  The bad part about this way is that she will have to disconnect from the university's wifi in order to print.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • How can I sync a (one) song from my computer to my iPad without syncing the entire library even though i have my iPad set to manually manage music?

Whenever I try to move just one song from my iTunes library to my iPad, it will start syncing like 300 other songs randomly so I cancel everything. I have my iPad set to manually manage music but it still does that. And what's worse, I never get that one song I chose in the first place. The same thing with photos. I'll sync a photo and it starts syncing music as well. But at least I get the photo just fine.

Easy solution when on itunes simply go to the music tab and press on music library then browse what file which contains the music you want to be added same with photos

  • I own a MacBook Pro and an iMac. How can I copy my iPhoto library from my MacBook to the iMac?

I own a 13" MacBook Pro and a 27" iMac and I have different iPhoto libraries for each one of them.
How can I copy the iPhoto library from the MacBook to the iMac without losing the pictures I have on the iMac library?
Is it possible to merge the libraries?
Can I do this without using an external HDD? (e.g. connecting them through an ethernet cable?)
    Thanks for your help!

    1. By eirher a: renaming one of the Libraries or b: copying them to another folder
    2. If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
    3. Yes.

I am new to Mac and the Mountain Lion software.  Having worked exclusively with PC operating systems, I am familiar with how to work with files in Windows, but am having trouble doing similar actions in OX 10.  How do I move a file directly from the desktop to a folder in OX?  Although this answer is likely in a video tutorioal (somewhere), I do not have the time to sit an arbitrarily watch generic OS videos that give a broad brush overview, without answering specific queries.  Any help out there?

  • How can iTune-synched photos be deleted from iOS devices if the iTunes computer is no longer available?

How can iTunes-synched photos be deleted from iOS devices if the iTunes computer is no longer available?
This can happen because the iOS device is on travels distant from the iTunes computer, because the iTunes computer is on travels distant from the iOS device, because the iTunes computer has failed permanently, because the iTunes computer has been stolen, etc.

    KRDHarris-
The only possibility I can think of, is to consult with an Apple Store Genius.  See if there is some kind of Apple proprietary software or diagnostic tool that can do it.
I do not think you want to, but you could go to Settings-General-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings.  If you decided to do that, you might be able to restore from a previous backup when you get home.

How do I import an image directly from the internet without printing and scanning it in first?

You can also Ctrl click on the image, save the image to your desktop and open it in Photoshop.
    1.
    2.
    3. Open in Photoshop by double-clicking on the saved image on your Desktop or Cmd o in Photoshop.
I don't see any point to copying and pasting from a browser into a new file in Photoshop.
If you want to put an image onto an already open image in Photoshop, use the File > Place... command and select your saved image.
