How do i take macro photographs with a 50 mm f1.8 prime lens

how do i take macro photographs with a 50 mm f1.8 prime lens, the lens is labelled macro, but only renders close ups.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

A "true" macro lens allows you to get close enough to your subject that the size of the image on your sensor is as large as the subject in real life.
For example:  Your sensor is "roughly" 14mm x 21mm.  A US penny has a diameter of about 19mm.  That means with a true "1:1" scale macro lens, you could get close enough to the penny that the top and bottom edges of the penny wont fit in the frame (the sides will.. just barely.)
There are a number of ways to do "close up" photography.
1)  Buy a true "macro" lens.  The EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM is fantastic and also fairly well priced.  A "true" macro lens will provide the highest quality image.
2)  Buy "extension tubes".  These fit between the camera body and lens but they are hollow (there is no glass elements in them but they do have electronic contacts so the lens and body can still communicate.)  By moving the lens farther from the focus plane, the entire focused range of the lens is substantially reduced.  This allows you to get much closer than would otherwise be possibe.
3)  Use "close up" diopters.  These are screw-on filters which you thread onto the end of your lens.  They provide a magnified/closer view of your subject.  The downside of these is that they may show more distortion near the edges of teh image.
4)  Use a "reversing" ring.  This is a ring which allows you to mount your lens onto the camera body... backwards.  The ring screws onto the front of the lens (where you'd normally screw on filters), but has bayonette mount on the other side so you can connect it to the camera body.  By using the lens "backwards" you can get much clsoer.  The downside is you cannot control the lens.  Focus is manual and you can't change the aperture.

How to be able to take silent photographs with Nokia 5130?

If it is possible where you live, it can be done by switching warning tones off in the profile that's active when you're taking photos. Switching to silent mode usually achieves this.
If, however, this doesn't work and your phone still makes a shutter release sound when you take a picture when in silent mode then that means that your phone was intended for sale in a country where it is illegal for cameraphones to operate silently. In this case, there's nothing Nokia can do.

  • How do i take one layer with multiple selections...

how do i take one layer with multiple selections and make those selections their own layer?

Yes sir. It w was really hard to explain. It is discontiguous segments that are separated by transparent areas. And I want those non transparent areas to be on their own layer. I have a photo shop file that has a bunch of buttons on them and they are on a transparent background. It is one layer. I want to select all the buttons and put them on their own layers. I can do this manually by selecting a button and cmd Just to a new layer, but when I have 200 buttons it is a daunting task.

  • What is a hard boot and will it fix my grainy photos when I take flash photographs with my iPhone 5 in the deep dark?

What is a hard boot and will it fix my grainy photos when I take flash photographs with my iPhone 5 in the deep dark?
Someone said a hard boot fixed the problem above .....when I go outside in the dark and take a flash photograph the photograph is all grainy and dark something is wrong is a hard boot where you hold the power and the home button down the same time is that safe will it fix the problem is it a hardware or software issue please help i've had my phone for over year people at the Apple store and other people told me it will be fixed in a software update but now it's getting serious I hope they'll replace my phone if it's a hardware issue something is wrong and I am angry please help if you can

The hard boot that I'm referring to in my case is relating to the iPhone not a Mac… five Years ago with my first iPhone three GS I believe it was someone at the Apple store told me have you tried a hard boot hard boot with my iPhone is where you hold the power button and the home button down at the same time for like 10 seconds or whatever and it shuts the phone off or reboots the phone
let's say you have the phone on and you do that procedure that's what they referred to as a hard boot when it comes to the iPhone and I wanted to know if it was safe for the iPhone five to do a hard boot I did it with my 3GS with no problems
I'm just trying to be able to take a photograph of something in the deep dark from 10 to 15 feet away and have it not look grainy and dark some have said and other discussions that it was a hardware problem and they have their phones replaced other said it was a software problem but you're saying and everyone else saying it's just because the flash and the sensor is too small

Also start up iChat (this shows in the DOCK)
It should let you click through the Start Up screens if you don't have a Screen name yet.
Click on the Buddy Pic it currently shows for you.
    Select Edit pic.
    Press the Take Video Snapshot
When you then select SET it will save this in
    Users/(your Account)/Library/Images/Recent iChat Pics
Or you can go to the Video menu of iChat and Select TAke Snapshot and this will be saved to the DESKTOP but may need further work in a Graphics app to get just your head if that is what you are aiming at.

  • How to get decent macro shots with my T3i + EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

Can anyone here steer me to a good tutorial on getting decent macro shots with my T3i + EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens?  I'm pretty good at online searches, but all I seem to find are reviews and unboxings .  Even the manual I've found doesn't really give instructions re: macro, even though the lens itself says "MACRO 1.5m/4.9ft" right on it.
Thanks so much in advance for any help!
    Deb

To use the lens for close-up photography, zoom to the max focal length (e.g. 300mm) and run the focus to the minimum focus distance.  The minimimum focus distance is fairly close consider this is a 70-300mm zoom lens... but it isn't anywhere near as close as a true/dedicated macro lens. You can get even closer... there are two ways to do this. 1)  You can use a close-up diopter.  For that lens you'd want the Canon 500D close-up lens (specifically you want the version with 58mm diameter threads to attach to the front of the 70-300mm lens).  It's about $85.  This is a two element lens (which is much higher quality than any 3rd party close-up diopter).   2) You can use "extension tubes".  An extension tube is (believe or not) exactly what the name implies... it's a hollow tube... and it extends the distance between the lens and camera body.  You attach it to the camera (just like a lens) and then you attach the lens to the extension tube instead of the body.  This positions the lens farther away from the image plane inside the camera and, as a result, the entire focus range of the camerea is shifted nearer to the camera (closest focusing distance was 1.5 meters without an extension tube, but will drop to just 42 centimeters with the Canon 25mm extension tube attached.)  It not only allows the camea to focus at a closer distance, it also enlarges the size of the image.)   Extension tubes do not have any glass in them -- they are completely hollow.  The body of the tube does have electronic pins to pass signals through so that the camera body and lens will still be able to communicate.   The Canon 25mm extension tube is about $140.  Kenko is another popular brand (their tubes come as a "set" of three different lengths).   Whether using extension tubes or close-up diopters, Canon suggests that you should manually focus the lens.   When you get to very close focusing distance, the depth of field can become quite shallow.  So shallow that you may not get as much of your subject in focus as you want.  Hard-core macro photographers will use (a) a tripod (because after precisely focusing... if your body moves by even a few millimeters it can completely throw the subject out of focus).  So you do want to make sure you do not move (and the best way to do that is usually to use a stationary object to hold the camera -- like a tirpod.)   They may also use a technique called "focus stacking".  Focus stacking involves taking several pictures.  You take a shot, tweak the focus by just a few millimeters and take another shot, and keep repeating until you've got enough shots to stack the subject from front-to-back with all the different focus positions.  The images are then merged using computer software (Photoshop will do this, but there are third party products that are dedicated to focus-stacking as well.) I've done this by wrapping a piece of masking tape around the focus ring on my lens.  I then focus to the nearest focus point and use a marker to mark that point (on the tape).  Then I focus to the farthest focus point I care about and mark that spot on the tape as well.  Now I take a series of photos ... taking each, then slightly adjusting focus a tiny bit at a time, take another photo, and repeat until I've taken enough to get from the nearest to farther points I've marked on that tape. Harder core macro photographers will sometimes use something called a focus-rail.  This is a track which you mount to the tripod and then attach the camera to a carrier that rides on the "rail".  The rail has fine adjustments which allow you to move the camera with control.  It you run the rail back (farthest point), then focus your lens to the closet focusing point on your subject.  Instead of turning the focus ring on the lens... you use the knobs on the focus rail -- which physically moves the camera forward.

  • How to take a picture with my mac bok pro???

Years ago I took pictures and selfies with my MacBook Pro. After spending a lot of time only using my phone to take pics I'm only trying now to take one simple pic of my dog on the other side of my computer screen tonight. Now I can't seem to find out how to do this. The i-Photo at the bottom of the screen only shows me old photos and asks for locations. No. I try to look for help on my Mac to no avail. THE REST OF MY MICROSOFT FRIENDLY FAMILY ARE AMUSED. The 'support' is horrible, I find out through YAHOO - not Apple or my computer - that I need to go through Photo Booth. I remember seeing that years ago. Why is there no photo booth icon at the bottom of my screen??? When did it change to i-Photo, and why aren't the two integrated?? Why do I have to find answers through yahoo? I managed to get photo booth up for a while on my mac book, but seriously, I can't be doing this all the time, now it's gone again and still I have no pic of my dog hating the back of my screen. And I can't find it again! The question is still: How do I take a photo with my mac book? Please DO NOT refer me to a link. NOT LOOKING FOR AN AUTOMATED ANSWER. Also, some additional feedback, Siri is really inferior compared to OK Google in providing directions, answering general questions (understanding voice questions and providing answers) and making voice command calls. I will not be buying an Apple watch for now. I need to see a lot of other improvements, even only how to ask questions about existing products and features and get snappy answers, before I invest in a new Apple product. Disappointed, I always rooted for Apple.

    Feel all better now?
    1. The Photo Booth.app is located in the Applications directory of Macintosh HD on Mac OS X systems. But some Microsoft Friendly Family conspirator might have changed the name of the internal storage device, removed the Photo Booth.app icon from the Dock, or possibly deleted the app.
    2. Photo Booth.app never DID change to iPhoto.app, or Photos.app. It always was and still is Photo Booth.app.
    3. iPhoto and Photos (introduced in Yosemite 10.10.3) are separate programs primarily designed for organizing and editing digital photos, and cannot take selfies.
Once you 'snap' an image with Photo Booth, the images are displayed in the 'film roll' that appears at the bottom of the Photo Booth application after you snap the first image. Clicking on an image in that film roll will select it. Control+clicking offers the option to export or delete the image. Once an image is selected with a single click, click the "upload" icon beneath the film roll to see the options available.
(Yosemite 10.10.2 version illustrated below. Screen transparency means that the background image colors bleed through the menus illustrated below.)
    4. There is a fast way to find and start the application called Photo Booth.app.
Click on the Spotlight icon in the upper right corner of your computer screen to search your computer for Photo Booth.app. Yes, there is a space between the words Photo and Booth. Press the enter/return key to open the application which will also enable the user-facing camera and illuminate a green LED.
Click the red button to initiate a 3-step countdown and a simulated flash of the screen to provide more light.
    5. Once Photo Booth.app is open and running, 'right click' (if the Secondary click feature of your mouse or trackpad has been enabled in , System Preferences) on the Photo Booth program icon in the bottom 'Dock' of your screen, and select Options, Keep In Dock. That will keep the Photo Booth icon in the bottom program dock for fast future use.

  • How can I take photo of fast objects with A3400?

in A3400 I didn't find any option to change shutter speed. or there is no proper photo scene in menu.
then how can I take a good photo of fast objects? in its catalog it says the speed of shutter is (1/2000 ~ 15 sec). when and how can I take a shut with 1/2000 sec ?
    thank for your help

According to the spec sheet you can't control the shutter speed other than by using the modes available & none are for action. The camera's program might select a very high shutter speed in very bright light while shooting something very reflective like a white car or building etc.
