How do I take over contacts from other phone?

3GS, 3.1, Windows 7 Trial version
My wife and I both have a 3GS. For some reason my contacts have disappeared after I upgraded to 3.1. Most of my wife's contacts are the same as mine. Instead of having to enter everything again I would like to take over her contacts but leave the rest of my iPhone settings, apps etc. untouched. Is that possible and if so, how?
Thanks.

The iphone is designed to be synced with a program on your computer. It is not a stand alone device.
Under the info tab you should have selected a contact program that you want iphone to sync with.
This is where your contacts should be. This way of you lose your contacts, you can just re-sync them.

Not sure. Haven't checked but maybe VZW will post another "Getting Ready" guide for the 4s like they did for the 4. You can also check the App store via iTunes to see if the current app works for the iPhone 4s. I personally didn't use backup assistant...I never liked how it worked  with my other devices (always mixed things up so contacts might have multiple listings instead of one and would place the mobile number as a home number and vice versa). iTunes syncing was quick and easy. I was coming from a BlackBerry when I got my iPhone though so I'm not sure if that's an option for the Voyager.
If you do some searching on the VZW site, or even Google, you can still find those getting ready guides. All the same info would apply, I'd think.
I know the info for the iPhone 4 is still available...but not sure if everything will be the same. Since iOS 5 will make it where you don't have to connect the iPhone to a computer at all there may be a way to do it without that step (which is necessary with iOS 4 if you want to use iTunes to sync contacts). You might be able to get your contacts on your computer from the Voyager and then sync them to the iPhone through the Cloud. Or...it might just be exactly the same as the current iPhone. That's why I was saying maybe they'll post another guide for the 4s. There might even be an owners manual PDF for the 4s already on the apple site. Not sure but if there is then some info would also be available there.

How do I sync my contacts from my iPhone and my Mac?

As far as I can tell this has been disabled in Mavericks (and possibly slightly earlier). Apple now wants you to get an iCloud account and upload all of your contacts to their server.
The way this works is: 1. create an icloud accout 2. set up your mac to sync its contacts with that icloud account 3. set up your iphone to sync its contacts with that same icloud account. (Be careful when synching the first time that you don't overwrite the device's contacts with the initially blank set of clontacts in icloud). The result is that you have synched the contacts between your iphone and your mac (and Apple gets a copy as well).
    -Mike
Now I understand. In step #2 above "set up your mac to sync its contacts with that icloud account" means "select all the 'on my mac' contacts and drag them onto the iCloud account so that they become iCloud contacts". There is no "setting" to sync "on my mac" contacts to iCloud.
As I tried to note on another thread about this where I was, unfortunately, openly mocked for having difficulty with it, this doesn't always go as smoothly as one would like and it can, at times, appear that you can't drag a contact from "on my mac" to iCloud.
I have several hundred google contacts and several hundred "on my mac" contacts, as well as the iCloud acount. (A consequence of being a very long time Apple user and a very reluctant iCloud adopter. Until a serious phone failure yesterday I'd always just had the contacts sync via iTunes and then grandfathered from phone to phone once that feature was removed by building the new phone from the old phone's back up.)
The Contacts app is in constant network communication with the google servers and the iCloud servers. When you're working with this many contacts at one time, network lag in those communications (is my best guess) can cause the application itself to cease to function in a quick and obvious way, often creating the appearance that you can't drag a particular contact (or group of contacts) from one place to another. You try to drag and nothing happens. You don't get an error or a warning, you don't get the situation where you can drag it but you can't get it to select a group (because the contact is already in there) you get nothing at all.
If this happens often enough it can lead one to believe that contacts must be moved individually and manually, but that is not the case. You just have to let your network connection catch up, and try again.
Also note that if you drag a group of contacts and some of them are already in iCloud you'll get a warning about potential duplicates. You'll get a set of choices about which one to keep, or both, or update. You can't actually see the contents of the two duplicates while you make this choice. If you get this warning, I would highly recommend choosing "cancel", confirming that your local copy is correct, complete and up to date, and then do the select and drag again and then pick the "update" option -- either nothing will happen because iCloud was also correct, complete and up to date, or you'll update iCloud, but nothing bad can happen that way.
I'm so glad they took away the direct syncing with the Contacts app via iTunes. This new method is so much easier to use

  • How can i get my contacts from my phone into my pc? itunes/excel

    Hi
I'm pulling my hair out here so would appreciate any help from you kind people!!
I just want to export the numbers from my iphone 3GS onto my computer, I'm not worried about format or on what program they are stored, its just as a back up in case i were to lose my phone.
Simplest way possible would be good!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You don't need Outlook to sync contact info but if you have Outlook available, you can access your Hotmail account with Outlook.
With XP you can sync contacts with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with syncing calendar events, or you can sync contacts only with the address book used by Outlook Express called Windows Contacts or Windows Address Book.
Before syncing contacts with the address book used by Outlook Express - which is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, enter one contact in the address book application on your computer. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.

  • How to transfer files over bluetooth from android phone to ipad air , the phone being already paired ?

Look forward for a solution to above

You cannot. iOS devices do not support file transfer from another type of device via Bluetooth. You'll need to either email the files to yourself, use a cloud-based service such as Dropbox, or sync the files to your computer so you can then sync them to your iPad.
    Regards.

  • How to send/recieve vcf-files from other phones?

    Hi,
THIS works on every phone known to man, the ability to send and recieve addresscards(vcf-files) between phones. But not with a high end phone like iPhone,
    what gives? anyone?
    tom

Sending through email, yes but the question is how to send vcf-files to another phone directly and not through email. There is as you know mobiles out there that does not utilize email as a mean of communicating and even worse sending vcf-file to iphone users with to success. This is done today by using a well known format called MMS. If you have not heard about it, you must be working at Apple since they ignore to add MMS-support in their/your iPhone.
A app called squirellMMS fixed that in early hacked iphones. But now? who knows.
    Anyone?

Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer, which is selected under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. Sync your iPhone 4S with the same address book app on your computer as you were syncing the iPhone 4 with.
