How do I tell if a new T40 has wireless

Sorry i have to ask such a basic and seemingly simple questions, but I cannot figure this out. I had a T40 2373-1U1 model on which the motherboard went bad. I bough a "bare bones" type system off eBay, installed my old hard drive and am running again. The new system is a 2373-7CU. I do see the little antenna symbol at the bottom of the LCD screen when it's opened. I do not see the bluetooth symbol like my last computer had. however, when I get into the device manager and check for a wireless network adapter, none are there (just the hard wire adapter). I tried the add new hardward wizard, but it found nothing to add. Any hints from those of you who know much more than me. Thanks - Ken

you can only use Thinkpads/IBM sourced version of wireless cards, other companies' version may give you an error message.

  • How do I tell if an HP Printer has wireless networking capability?

I posted a message on another sub-forum about a specific problem I was having (i.e. getting a HP Laserjet P3015n to wirelessly network with a new Apple Extreme Base Station) and it occured to me that, even after reading through the product page description of the actual printer, and the corresponding Troubleshooting/FAQ page, I don't even know if the 3015n even has wireless capability.
Is there a way to tell which HP printers have such capability?
On older printers, I used to see the little red/black window at the bottom that I presumed was a little thingey that was an infrared beam that presumably indicated the possibility wireless connectivity.  But I'm not so sure now.
I'm specifically interested in good quality, heavy-use HP Printers for my home network and a small (10 work station and 1 server) network at work.
So is there a list of these wireless-capable printers somewhere or some lingo that's used that indicates such?  It's probably obvious, but I'm missing it.  Though the allure of fewer cords is certainly something I like!
    Thanks for the help!

You can make it wireless for about $21.

Are you planning to connect your iPad to your computer and using iTunes upgrade your software to iOS 5.0.1 (that's the current OS available for iPad)?  I would certainly suggest you update.  If you do, then the manual on your iPad will also be updated.

  • How can I tell if my macbook pro has been restored to factory settings?

I just bought I brand new macbook pro (15,4 inch) from an official apple store... but I'm thinking that it may be used (it was a bit dirty when I opened it, but it has no scratches).
I tried with coconut battery, but it went ok, the battery is new. However they might have changed it.
Is there a way to know if the mac was restored to factory settings?
... if not, is there any other way to know if is a used laptop?
    Thanks,

cycle count says 1... wich correspond to the initial battery discharge I just did. That's why I think they may have changed the battery.
Serial number is C02FHFG0DF8V... how can you tell if this correspond to a refurbished unit?
It has all the "official" envelops of a brand new mac... the thing is that I found small dust specks all over the interior of the box and in the accesories (not on the notebook itself).
According to coconut "Age of your Mac" is 11 weeks.
That's why I thought the only way I could knew for sure if they used it before (maybe for showcasing at the store) was finding out if it was restored to factory settings. (Also I bought it in an official apple store).

  • How can i tell if my iphone 4 has been hacked into?

Here is the situation.....a friend of mine is in a bad marriage. She found out her husband bugged her laptop and her phone and is finding out all of her conversations. The other day, we were all at a buffet restaurant and he was sitting at the table with us, without thinking anything of it, I left my purse with my phone at the table while all but him went up to the bar. Later on that night, I was in the car with another friend and we were talking in detail about our friends situation. The next day my friend whom I was talking to in the car, checked her answering machine, and our conversation was on her machine. I checked my call log AND detailed billing from AT&T  thinking I may have butt dialed her house, but there is no record of me calling her house. The same with her, she as no record of calling her house and her home phone does not have caller ID. This guy is very tech savy and is the manager of 4 AT&T stores. Is it possible for him to have hacked into my phone and put some sort of bug in it? If this is possible, is it also possible for my phone to be able to record our conversation without a call being placed? If it is possible, how can I tell if my phone has been hacked?
    Thanks

It would be extremely difficult for someone to be able to grab your iPhone out of your purse and hack into it without having a laptop computer with him with which to jailbreak the iPhone and time to work on it. I can't say it would be impossible, though. I'd suggest as a precaution you perform a Restore on your iPhone; if it restores successfully that would clear any jailbreak and remove any hack.

  • How could I tell if my iPhone 4s has been jailbroken?

    Hello everyone!
I'm sorry if this may sound extremely stupid, but I'm not very good with the whole Apple hardware, and what makes it tick.
I had read something about jailbroken iPhones and hacking viruses, and just before I had read that, I had encountered someone on Tumblr (through Safari, not the Tumblr application, if there is one...I don't personally have an account, but I browse the site) who had suffered some kind of hacking virus.
I panicked a little, wondering if there was a possibility the virus from their blog could effect my iPhone, and a few searches on Safari later, I then panicked about whether my iPhone could possibly be jailbroken.
I'm not looking for any websites to check whether the phone is jailbroken or not, (it probably isn't), and I'm not looking to jailbreak it, but I've recieved so much help from these communities I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask this silly question.
I've heard a lot about the whole loading screen (when you first turn the phone on and the apple logo with the little crease through the apple shows up) being different, etc, and a whole slew of others.
Everything looks normal....the loading screen is black with the apple logo and crack/crease/curved line...whatever you wish to call it, but it won't stop me from being paranoid, haha.
Could anyone help? Just how could I tell without downloading or messing with anything on my phone or computer?

If it's your iPhone and you've not jailbroken it, why would you be concerned that it might be jailbroken?
Did you purchase it from Apple or another reseller?  OR from some average joe on the street, ebay, or craigslist?
The only way to jailbreak a device is to physically get your hands on it.

  • How can I tell when the NEW firmware is available ?

Although the firmware became available for the 'z2 tablet' very quickly - nothing has appeared for the phone (UK - SIM free).
I have tried the update several times (with my PC) & am just told 'up to date'....
I remember with the 'xperia s' I had to check a code (on a sticker inside the rear of the phone) to tell when it was available for me - how do I do this with the Z2 ?

Unfortunately we are unable to confirm specific date for any particular firmware release due to the nature of the approval process.. For further information regarding the approval process please see here.

  • How can you tell if an iPod touch has the new apps?

Having seen the updates to the ipod Touch I'm finally ready to buy one. From the keynote I gather that new units shipping from the factory after 15 Jan have the new software, old units do not and, unusually for apple, even if you buy an old software unit after the announcement, you don't get the software for free. Worse still, I'm in one of those countries they sell the touch, but don't have an iTunes store, so if I buy an old one, I'm stuck with it, cannot upgrade.
Is there any way to tell from the box which version you have, change in part number, anything? I'm sure they aren't doing the M$ sticker approach "now with 1.1.3 and lots of new apps". The return policy out here in Singapore is basically you can't, so I need to figure out in the store if the box I'm buying is new, or old, and I have no clue at all how much stock is left out there.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
If you're going to buy in a real shop then why not have the retailer open the box for you. Especially if they don't do returns - that's a must.
The next suggestion is a little more hit-and-miss but the fourth and fifth digits of the Serial Number are the week of production. If you get a week 02 or later it should be okay. Perhaps someone with a brand new one could confirm.

  • How can I tell if my "new" ipod is refurbished?

I was given an ipod as a gift, but now the giver suspects he may have been ripped off. It was not bought through Apple, but at a "reputable" place in NYC. However, it was not full price, which seems suspicious to both of us.
Is there a way to check online whether it's new or refurbished? Also, how do I know what gen it is, as it doesn't say on the back? Thanks.

Is there a way to check online whether it's new or refurbished?
You can check the serial number online. Go here and click on the link for your iPod type.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
You should see a link over in the right column that says +Check your warranty status+. Enter your iPod's serial number. This may provide information on when the iPod was originally sold.
