How do I tell if I need to Replace Mobo?

I have gotten a lot of good interchange between members of this forum about my pathetic problems, and the time has now come to get down to cases: Do I or do I not need to replace my MSI mobo?
To recap:
1.  My PSU has been noted as anemic 'round here, and I intend to take that into consideration. I never ignore advice when I have asked for it.
2.  I have serious stability problems which I thought were to do with Win98, but which now appear to be something else: after reinstalling Win98 some of the same things (Windows Explorer executes illegal instructions, for example) are happening, along with an inability to use the sound controller.
3.  Nothing anyone has suggested here has helped the sound controller problem, which makes it look intractable. Maybe so, maybe not.
I'd be glad for some help with this. Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I reviewed my stats with AIDA32 just now in response to your post, since I remembered that I had also set everything to system default. I assume without good reason that that is something like what you are addressing. Maybe not.
I found one thing: Problem: AGP aperture size is more than half of the system memory size. This ma...
It's incomplete. Is this a problem? AGP aperture is 128MB.
I just noticed something else. Since before I reinstalled, Windows has reported another, removable drive G:\. But there is no removable drive G:\. I hadn't thought about it since reinstall, thinking it would have gone away, but there it is.

How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

There are a few ways (none of which are covered in the above link). On more recent OS X versions, when you click the battery icon in the menu bar you may see a "Service Battery" or "Replace Now" message. If you aren't seeing that, the system probably thinks the battery is fine.
Also, in your System Information utility, there is a Power section that provides Health information for the battery, with a Condition status and Cycle Count. If the Condition is Normal and your battery is under 300 cycles (for removable batteries) or 1000 cycles (for non-removable batteries) it is not time to replace it yet.
But of course, the other time to replace it is if you don't think you're getting the runtime you want out of it.
If none of those is a problem, don't worry about it.

  • How can I tell which machines need a given patch?

So when I run WSUS and view the Updates Report I can type in the specific patch I'm working on (MS14-066) and it tells XX computers have it, YY computers need it, etc.
How can I tell which are the YY computers that need the patch so I can go fix them up?  Is there an easy way to do that?
    Thanks.

How can I tell which are the YY computers that need the patch so I can go fix them up?
Run the Detailed View version of the report. There will be one (or more) pages for each update. The detailed pages list each computer, the approval status, and installation state.
However, the conventional way to address this question is to create target groups based on some classification of how you would approve updates (e.g. Desktops, Win2008R2, .NET4) and approve the updates for the *groups* of computers that should install the
    updates.

  • How Can I Tell if My iPad Air Replacement is New or Refurbished

I'm getting a replacement iPad Air because mine had a problem with it, there were loose magnets in it. I've heard that people have another person's data on apps they have just downloaded and that makes me really uncomfortable.
How can I tell if my replacement is brand new or just refurbished? Is there info in the serial/model number?
    Thanks.

You might hear a lot of things on the Internet but that doesn't make them true.
If you got a refurbished iPad from Apple it would be completely empty.
Refurbished iPads are identified on the packaging.
You can see the model number in Settings > Genera l> About > Model. The model number has a two-letter code, a number and some more letters. The last part stands for the country/region. The first letter can be "F" (refurbished), "M" (normal retail), or "P" (personalized / engraved).

  • How can I tell if my songs got replaced by Itune version?

I just subscribed to Itunes Match and it has finally uploading 2929 songs. How can I tell which of my songs got matched and I can get a higher quality version from Itunes? I want to replace those songs in my library.
    Thanks!

You must enable the "iCloud Status" column. Switch to Song view and pull down View > View Options. Select the option for iCloud Status then close the little window. You will now be able to see the staus of each song. To download matched tracks, delete the original track from the library but do NOT hide the track in the cloud. Then click the download button.

  • Why wont ipad charge how can u tell if it needs to be changed

how to tell if my ipad battery needs to be replaced it wont charge

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good. If your computer/iTunes does not recognize the iPad, then the cable is probably bad.
Try this first -  Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • How Do I tell If I need A New Battery?

I have a 1200MAH battery in my which I bought 17 months ago, until 3 days ago the battery was working great.  Then quite suddenly (over 2 days) the battery life degraded, I charged it up to 98%, left it 12 hours & now it's at 43% with no use.  Does this mean I need a new battery?  I'm not annoyed about this, I accept they do fail after some time but I cannot find anywhere on the forums or on the Palm literature how long a battery is expected to last (yes I know it depends on use).  I rarely use the phone, camera, E_Mail, internet, etc. and mainly use the PDA functions.
    Can anyone help?
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
For the battery to have crapped out that suddenly does seem a little weird, but I suppose it's possible.  Any chance you might have been playing with something that was left running in the background, like PocketTunes?  If you have background play turned on, and you don't actually stop the music from playing, it'll keep on going.  But then, you would probably hear it from the speaker.

  • Need to order recovery disks, how can I tell if I need 32 or 64 bit without an OS?

I'm trying to repair someones laptop.  It's a g60 and they dont have recovery disks.  The hard drive has crashed so I can't use windows to find out if i need a 32 or 64 bit version.  HP's website can't determine this by model number, serial or anything and is asking me what version i need when i try to order recovery disks.  It tells me I should use windows to figure this out.  (why would I need to order recovery disks, if windows was still working?????)  Anyway. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • How can I tell if I need a Dual-Band Wi-Fi Dongle ...

    Hi
I've just placed an order for BT Infinity 1 and have been advised I will be receiving the new BT Home Hub 5.
Can someone explain if it would be advantageous for me to order a Dual-Band Wi-Fi Dongle 600 or not?
How can I check if my laptops - Dell Studio 1749 and HP ENVY dv6 - can already handle dual band connections, if that is what we are talking about here?
    Any advice / help appreciated.
    Thanks

To be honest, you are unlikely to see any speed improvement by adding a wifi dongle, also the 5GHz band has very limited range.
I would wait until everything is working, before ordering any more stuff.

  • How can you tell if you need to just replace the glass on an ipod 4g or the glass and the LCD screen?

i just broke my ipod touch 4g about a month ago and i think it is just the glass but i am not sure. It cracked and the glass started falling out of the top right corner and today, the white part started cracking. is this just part of the glass or is it part of the LCD screen? I want to figure this out because i dont want to order a repair kit with an LCD screen if i dont have to. thanks in advanced

On the 4G the outer glass and the LCD screen is one bonded unit.

  • How can I tell if I need a firmware upgrade?--G5 iSight iMac

    CPU Speed: 2.1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 1.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 700 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.6f1
I am going to upgrade from X.4.11 to Leopard and want to do all the approp maintenance beforehand (running Disk First Aid from my Tiger install disk, updating permissions, etc)
Apple makes it very easy to update software via Software Update but I ended up with confusion aplenty when I did a search on Support: downloads for G5 firmware updates.
    TIA
    Caroline

As far as I know, there are no firmware updates for your iMac. Remember to disconnect all peripherals other than your keyboard and mouse before upgrading, and to be safe, make a clone of your system to an external firewire drive (I use SuperDuper!).
Repair permissions after the upgrade as well.
Good luck and have fun with Leopard.

  • I cracked my screen on my iPhone 5s does anyone know how much it costs if they need to replace it with a new phone? It still has 6 months in it's year warranty

I cracked my screen the phone still works but I was wondering how much would it cost to have the screen replaced or a cost that they usually charge it they replace the phone with a new one. I still have 6months left in my warranty

Not covered by warranty. Some Apple stores will replace the screen/digitizer, while you wait, for US $149. Call your local store to confirm they do so, then make an appointment.
Otherwise, if your store does not offer this...not available in every country...you're looking at US $269 for an out of warranty replacement.

I have a HP Pavilion Slimline s5212y with Windows 7. My computer shut down with no error messages. Tried rebooting using F10 where I see the HArdware Diagnostics screen and then the computer dies. I don't get to run a repair or any diagnostics.
