How do I titles to consecutive clips?

Asked this question a while ago but did not receive a satisfactory answer.
Ho do I add captions to consecutive clips in the clip viewer? For instance I have sveral clips of birds and would like to add their name to each clips. After I add the first caption to the first clip, the clip is rendered and and the next few clips disappear from view. If I cannot see each individual clips how can add the caption to them?

Hi Frank - Matt and I are trying our best to help you! Please carefully read what I told you about why your photos have a 5 sec duration - it is because that duration was set in the Photos Pane before you imported them. Do you want to change that duration? If so, it can be done, but the method you use depends on whether or not you had the Ken Burns check-box ticked.
1. If you didn't, then you simply double-click the photo in the Timeline, and change the duration numbers in the box that appears. [You stated: " I have attempted to change their lengtht by clicking on them but nothing happens. The 0:05:00 stays the same." That sounds to me that you are NOT doing what I have just described.]
2. If you did, then the photo has been changed into a video clip, which can only be adjusted from within the Photos Pane. So, select the photo in the Timeline, and in the Photos Pane, if necessary click on 'Show Photo Settings', adjust the duration slider, and click Update. Now, in this scenario it very much matters what is going on in Trash, because iMovie 6 has a 'bug'. It places the original un-modified pic into the trash. If the trash is cleared you can no longer modify the pic.
If you wish to leave the pics at the 5 sec duration, that's fine, BUT when you create your title it's duration MUST be set at no more than 5 seconds, otherwise it will spill over onto another adjacent pic and fuse them together.
As Matt said, the number of words in your caption is immaterial. It is the duration (set using the slider in the Titles Pane) that is the important thing.

Titles cause fluttering clips

When editing an iMovieHD which was originally imported footage into iMovie 4 and adding titles, the underlying clips start to flutter (or roll quickly, like old films out of sync). I tried to figure out if I had inadvertently inserted some "effect", but none to be seen.
Does anyone recognize this?

Yes, it certainly proved interesting - and frightening! I don't know how many movies I have now inadvertedly, and in ignorance, converted in either edited or unedited format from iMovie4 into iMovie HD, with similar difficulties lurking. However, the document gave me the clue, and I imported the clips from the iMovie HD contents package into a new project, and both titles and transitions worked properly.
This is time-consuming, though, and had I known about the difficulties I would not have bothered to convert. I am not even sure I took the old iMovie away - does iLife replace it?

How to import 150 .mov (quicktime) clips into iMovie '11?

Hello,
Newbie to iMovie and having some trouble. My wedding videographer took off with my wedding footage (and the footage of 100 other couples.) Through the police and some of my own detective work, I was able to seize my wedding footage and have it on an external hard drive. I have already spent thousands of dollars trying to recoup my footage and now that I finally have it, I don't have the extra money to have it made into an actual movie/dvd.
All of the more than 150 clips are in .mov format and I am unable to import them into iMovie that way. Any ideas on how to convert that many HD clips into a file that iMovie will recognize without losing video quality & sound?

I did it! I realized after 2 hours of it not working, that I was doing it 1 step wrong. I was trying to import the actual file with all the clips, rather than just the clips themselves... Silly error, and the import of .mov files into iMovie was seemelss.. Quality is great and didn't take long. Thanks again.

Have them install Quicktime on their PC's from Apple's website, that's the easiest fix.

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places. I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file. There must be something else that's missing. My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive. If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess. I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={ Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period. I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive. Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me). As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

Guess the iOS isn't really all that it's cracked up to be, ignoring the wider world out there.
Your only choice to complain to Apple about closed devices they make, but of course they know this already and using the iPad as a cheap "netbook" halo effect device so you get to upgrade to a Mac, just like they do with iPhones and iPods.
In the meanwhile they are slowly closing the door on OS X, a little at a time so it's not noticeable.
Pretty soon the excuse will be "sorry I can't play your video you sent me mom, I've got a Mac"

You can import some very short video clips into Photoshop and make gifs. I can import short (10 second or so) .mvi video clips I've taken with my point and shoot camera.
Use File ->Import->Video Frames to Layers
CS3 doesn't recognize .mvi files until you enter *.* in the box, hit load, then find the file you want.
After the file has been loaded, go to Windows, and check Animation.
After the Animation bar loads, go to the right side arrow, check Make Frames from Layers.
Then Save for Web and Devices, and you've got your gif.
I find it much easier to use the separate software.

After syncing multiple clips in PE I import them into Premiere CS6 and they are all layered with their own audio tracks (though the video clips are synced with only one audio track). This causes inconsistent audio levels. How do I join all these clips which originally derived from one audio recorder to merge as one? If there is a step by step process please advise. If all audio is from a single audio source (with consistent levels0 ..the only reason you would be getting different audio levels on different audio tracks is if the Mixer has different settings....or the audio has been changed at clip level.
Its usually desireable to have audio clips on different tracks.
Can you not just drag the audio clips to a single audio track...if that's what you really need?
Alternatively a mixdown...but that requires sorting the levels anyway. ( Mixer on automation or at clip level.)

How do I import all the clips as one long clip? I have 45 min of footage and I want it as one long take I can edit in Final Cut ProX. When I import, all the clips are split up when the scene cuts. I just want the 45 min in one long video.

iMovie will import the tape as if it is direct from the camera. It will sense the scene breaks and put all the clips in chronological order.
If you want to import it as one long clip, I suggest you load the tape into the app that you edited the tape with. Then export it out as a QuickTime movie in the DV codec. You can import this MOV file into FCPX or iMovie.

Th problem with HD video is it needs a fast external interface, so you should pick a external drive that uses the fastest interface your computer has to offer.
Performance rank fastest to slowest is
Thunderbolt, USB3, (newer Mac's)
Firewire 800, USB 2, Firewire 400, USB 1 (older Mac's)
Newer Windows PC's have USB3, older one's USB 2,1.
You need to format the drive if it comes FAT which a lot do, as FAT has a 4GB file size limit, so this won't work with large HD video files.
So if your going to use the drive only with a Mac, then head to Utlities > Disk Utility and format it Options: GUID Format: OS X Extended Journaled. (select the drive makers name and click Partition tab)
If your going to use the external drive with a PC, take it to the oldest PC you have and right click and format exFAT.
If you have a Windows XP machine and there is no exFAT, it can be downloaded for free from Microsoft.
