How do I transfer all data from my Macbook to my iMac?

I want to transfer everything from my macbook to my imac anddelete everything presently on the imac. I also need to keep all data on the macbook. How do I do this please?
The main reason for this is that the Mail app on my iMac no longer gives a window or any option to rebuild so I cannot see my mail on it. I have to use iCloud. I have tried the re-install OSX with no improvement.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you start up your iMac holding the T key, it will start up in Target Disk mode. In this mode, the iMac's hard disk appears as an external drive in your MacBook Pro, so you can access there and recover your data.
After starting in Target Disk mode, open a Finder window in the MacBook Pro and you will see the iMac's hard drive in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices". Select it, navigate through your folders and copy them to your MacBook Pro's hard drive.
You can also use Migration Assistant > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

If you have a computer with the current version of iTunes you can connect your iPhone 4s to your computer via the USB charging cable.  You would then Sync / Backup your iPhone 4s to that computer via iTunes.  After a successful backup is created you can then connect your iPhone 6 via the charging cable to the computer and iTunes and Restore that Backup to the new iPhone.  You can always download any Apps you have purchased at no charge.  If you don't have a computer / iTunes you can backup your iPhone 4s via WiFi and the Cloud.  Then you can download that Backup to your New iPhone.  This may be more difficult due to memory constraints on your iPhone.

  • How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive

How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one?
I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

Do you already have Time Machine making backups onto the 2TB drive? If so, after you get the internal drive replaced, boot up into the recovery partition (hold down ⌘R) and restore the latest Time Machine backup that you have onto the new internal drive.
I recommend always having two backups. I'd use SuperDuper to make a complete clone of your internal drive onto an external drive in addition to having the Time Machine backup.
Boot Camp is what is used to make partitions for Windows. How much space to allocate depends on how much space you expect Windows to use up based on how you plan to use it.

  • How do i transfer all data from one mac to another?

When I started up my new iMac, there was an option to transfer all my data from my older mac (macbook air) to the new iMac. I skipped this step at first, how can I get back to this step and utilize this feature?

Choose Utilities from the Finder’s Go menu and double-click the Migration Assistant. Note that if you move a home folder, it’ll create a new user account for it.

  • How do I transfer my data from a HDD to an iMac?

Several days ago, my aging MacBook Pro suddenly died on me. A repair technician I know diagnosed the laptop as having a bad logic board. We assume the MBP's internal hard drive (an aftermarket disk, installed by the same technician only a couple of years ago) is still functional.
I just bought a refurbished late-2012-model 21.5-inch Core i5 iMac. I want to have my technician-friend extract the MBP's hard drive from the laptop, put it in a cheap USB enclosure, and then copy the info from the hard drive onto the new iMac.
    SPECIFICS:
MacBook Pro 2,2 (2.33 GHz, aftermarket 500 GB HDD, MacOS 10.6.8)
    iMac (late-2012 refurb, 2.9 GHz Core i5, 1 TB HDD, MacOS 10.8)'
These are the specs as I understand them.
I use LaCie's SilverKeeper for backups. My last backup for the MacBook Pro was getting a little old and I wanted to extract the info directly from the laptop's hard drive because there was some recent data on there I really wanted to save.
Is there a technique for copying only certain information over from an old hard drive to the new computer?
I want my e-mail (messages, accounts, passwords, signatures), calendar, address book, notes, iTunes, Safari bookmarks/history/passwords, and FireFox bookmarks/history/passwords all to be transferred over immediately. I have multiple e-mail accounts and social media activities set up and I want to be able to access them right away.
Is there an automated way to do this?

A perplexing notion occurred to me today. A friend who is a technician extracted the hard disk from my (dead) MacBook Pro, and I am getting ready to go pick that one up from him. I will follow the Setup Assistant procedure for that hard disk, transferring the data from the remains of my old MacBook Pro to my new iMac. That will be a no-brainer.
But now there is another concern on my mind.
For years, I have used a 1.25 GHz G4 iMac (an "igloo" iMac) as a part-time workstation and file server. It is sitting on the same table as the new Core i5 iMac. I want to transfer the information off of the old G4 iMac into the new Core i5 iMac as well. (I will be slowly phasing out the "igloo" iMac over time; it still gives my access to old software that I'm not able to replace just yet.) The old G4 "igloo" has USB 2 and FireWire 400 ports. The "new" Core i5 iMac has Thunderbolt, USB 3 and I also have a couple of Thunderbolt-to-FireWire 800 adaptors that I bought with the new iMac.
Even though the old G4 "igloo" will still have some use left in it, I want to transfer over the data to the new Core i5 machine in preparation for the eventual decommissioning of the G4 "igloo". What is the best way fo doing this? Both iMacs will have password-protected user folders, but I never used File Vault.
How do I transfer the old iMac's data over to the new iMac?

  • How can I delete all data from my macbook air?

I'm trying to delete all the personal information from my hard drive, but leave the iOS.  HOW????

Oops -- the Mac's Operating System is Mountain Lion, not iOS.  I will assume you mean delete all your information, but leave Mountain Lion.
To do that, you can reboot your computer holding down the "Command" and "R" keys at least till the Apple logo appears (6 or 7 seconds).  Choose the recovery disk.  You'll then be able to erase your hard drive using Disk Utility and then reload Mountain Lion.

  • How can I transfer outlook data from Ipod to new hard drive?

My hard drive had to be replaced last week. Although my music was backed up by Norton 360, my Outlook contacts and calendar were not backed up. How can I transfer my data from my Ipod to my new hard drive? I am running Windowa XP, if that matters. Will a sync to Itunes destroy all my data on my Ipod?

You would need to enter at least one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer, then when you first sync you should get the option to merge the data.

  • How do i transfer my data from old iphone to new iphone

how do i transfer my data from old iphone to new iphone

You need to sync the data from your old iPhone, to the computer via iTunes.  Once the data is on the computer, you then need to sync it to the new iPhone, also via iTunes.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/how-to/#video-sync - this is a link with a short video that teaches you how to sync your iPod / iPhone using iTunes
If you sycn with iCloud, you can also sync some of the data via iCloud.  This may not work for all you music, if it was not purchased via iTunes.

    here
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finish backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.

  • Transfer all data from blackberry bold 9780 to iPhone 5

I have a iPhone 5 16 GB recently purchased, I need to transfer all data from the Black Berry Bold.
I need all contacts, documents, pics, E-Mail set-up etc. basically everything.
I need a seamless transition from one to the other. I have not even opened up the iPhone box yet.
Does anyone have a simple easy way to do this?
Only thing I have to work with is the iPad!
Was thinking of iCloud but have no Wi-Fi connection here.
    Please help?
    F

If anyone is still struggling with this problem for the iphone 5 I just figured out how to fix it! it wasn’t easy because google sync doesn’t work on a blackberry anymore and outlook doesn’t help if you don’t got it so I had to go the long way and spend 2hrs of my time figuring it out while the actual solution only takes 5 mins!
So I downloaded an app called "Phone to Phone transfer" there’s other apps like this one but this is the only one that’s available on both blackberry and iOS so its the one I used and it worked, read: 3 steps to transfer all contacts from BlackBerry to iPhone 5
    1) Download the app on your blackberry and sign-up for an account i used an email i barely use and its free so it was all quick and easy
    2) Sync your contacts on your blackberry using the app
    3) Download the same app this time on your iPhone and use the same log-in details as you used when you signed up on your blackberry
    4) Sync contacts again and press download and... that’s it! all your contacts are now on your new iPhone.

  • HT1296 I bought my wife a new Ipad 3. How do I transfer her data from the old Ipad 1 to the new one?

I bought my wife a new Ipad 3. How do I transfer her data from the old Ipad 1 to the new one?

Sync the old one, and get a full back up stored.  Make sure you transfer your purchases to I tunes, and make sure you upload any photos taken on the pad, or imported thru the cck.
Then plug the new pad in, and set it up from the backup of the old one.  In theory, all the stuff that was in the back up will migrate to the new pad.  If apps, music or books get lost, you can redownload them for free, using the same appLe id.
If you are selling or gifting the old one,   When you are done and happy with the new set up,  go to setting, general, reset, reset all content and data.  This will place the pad in factory new condition.   Lastly, if it is a 3 g pad, especially if it a Verizon pad, make sure to cancel the plan
