How do I transfer all my itunes to a different computer

I own a 3rd Generation Ipod touch and an Ipad 2. I also own a PC that has all of my Itunes music apps and things on it. But recieved a work Macbook that runs snow leapord. I want to sync both my devices to this Macbook but dont want to erase their content, I want to add to its existing Library move my content on the devices to the Mac. I also primarily use Ical on my Ipad but when I sync, it erases my conent and replaces with the Ical accounts that were previously used on this Macbook. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Hi, I am sorry are you trying to copy an Itunes library to another or do you want to merge two different Itunes library into one. It is too different things. In the first scenario, after you make sure you have the same version of Itunes and Itunes is organizing the media for you (in the advanced preferences), you would move the whole Itune folder (with Itunes library file and the actual subfolders w/music) to an external drive or another HD and then replace the itunes folder on the new computer w/itunes folder from the source computer (most people would put in Music folder). The folder needs to be replaced or the previous one need to be deleted and the new one put in it place. Now just make sure that Itunes knows where the library file is (that is the one w/your playlist info, etc.). I generally just check: on the source computer in Itunes preferences Advanced you should see the location of your Itunes library file. Then on the new computer Quit Itunes, then hold down option key and launch Itunes again and click on Choose libary--find the library file w/the same extension name in the new location. Merging of two is more difficult. Basically you would need to export one library and then import it into the other library. I was only able to do it on the external HD that was big enough to hold both libraries. I copied one library there completely, then imported the playlist that had all the previous library info and that forced itunes to copy the other library to that new location. Then I replaced the old library w/a new one. I am very suprised it worked out for me. I have read in many posts that it was not possible to merge two libraries while preserving playlists. Hope this helps.

I would like to know how I can transfer all my purchases to a new computer. The laptop which all the music is stored, is broken.

You can also re-download most previous purchases (not just songs) from the iTunes Store from the Purchased screen.  So, you should be able to get the "one missing purchase" back too.  Sign in to iTunes using the Apple ID used to make the purchases.  Go to the iTunes Store.  (With the new iTunes 12, select the Music category first, then go to the iTunes Store.)  Click on Purchased (along right side under QUICK LINKS).  From the Purchased screen, you can find and download previous song purchases, at no cost.
You can also re-download purchases from other iTunes categories, such as Movies and TV Shows.

This is a question for my brother, and he has an iMac PPC (he calls it the "ball") from 2003, which has a FireWire port.  He wants to get a new iMac, which I see has the Thunderbolt port.
The new iMacs also have a FireWire 800 port, so a FireWire cable will work.  The "ball" sounds like a G4 iMac, which has a FireWire 400 port, so either a cable with different plugs or an adapter would be needed.
He has found your very detailed instructions about using Migration Asst
For best results, use Setup Assistant when the new Mac first starts up, not Migration Assistant later on.
to set up the new Mac with everything he currently has on his old Mac.
Since the old Mac is a PPC Mac, he/you probably should not transfer applications --  most 3rd-party apps that work on the old Mac won't work on the new one.
I see the Apple store has a Thunderbolt-Fire Wire cable -- will this do the trick?
It looks like it would, but it's F/W 800, so you'll still need a F/W 400-to-F/W 800 cable and an adapter.
Or, use an Ethernet cable and transfer via network.

  • How do I transfer all music and videos from one computer to another?

I need to transfer my music and videos that are in itunes from my laptop to my new desktop, and I dont want to lose anything because when I update my ipod it will be takin off, right? Please tell me how I go about doing this, thanks a bunch!!

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the to computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. You can also use your iPod as a hard drive and move the folder with it though that would be considerably slower than computer to computer. Here are a few links that may help you out:

  • How could I transfer all purchased music to a new computer

I need to transfer all purchased music to a new computer.. Can I download them again or sync to the new computer??

Anything you want to transfer, just copy it to a USB flash drive or external hard drive, and from there to the new computer.
If you want to keep your iTunes library intact, as far as playcounts, playlists, etc, a few extra steps are required. First, on the old machine, run Library > Consolidate. Then copy the entire iTunes folder to the external device, and from there to the new machine.

  • Just replaced my laptop how do I transfer all my itunes, apps to the new laptop?

Just bought a new laptop. How do I transfer itunes music, apps, etc onto the new laptop?

Ok here is another way. You will need file sharing on on both computers. You will need to have the ip address of your old computer. It;s in system preferences( network). you will need your old comps admin name just as appears in accounts and the password. Then go to the top of your desktop, new computer, click on go scroll down click on servers. Type in ip address amin name and password for old computer.and click on the apply. A file should come up on the screen that is you old computer. you need to go tothe home folder, music open it find the folder that just has the music in it. open the folder to make sure. then close it drag it to you desktop and let you new compuer copy it. After it gets copied open Itunes . then go to file andclick on it . Go down to add library and click on it you'll get another file on your desktop to find the file youwant.  Click on desktop click on the Itunes folder click the copy and it will copy that folder to your new Itune. then throw away the itunes folder on the desktop. I should add, you want just the music file nothing else off your old computer, otherwise it will not work.

  • Bought new computer- how do i get all my itunes song off old computer and onto new one?

i recently purchased a new computer and installed ITUNES on it.  Once I put in my APPLE ID all my purchased songs showed up (songs i purchased through ITUNES on my old computer).  Here is the problem, my old computer has around 800 songs on it from cd's that I owned and downloaded those songs into ITUNES.  Now i want those songs on my new ITUNES on my new computer but don't know how to get them there.  I have tried the following so far:
    - Tried syncing my ipod and ipad to the new computer but each time I do this the new computer ITUNES wants to wipe out the 800 songs and just put on the transfered purchases songs.
    - Tried 'home sharing'.  When I did home sharing with both computers on and ITUNES opened all the songs showed up on my new computer but as soon as I closed out ITUNES on the old computer the 800 songs went away on the new computer and it went right back to the songs I purchased.
Please someone tell me there is an easy way to take all these songs I have on ITUNES on the old computer and transfer them to my new computer and ITUNES without having to bust out all these old cd's and sit there and re-burn them all on the new computer.
I have in addition to this all ready authorized my new computer with ITUNES so that is good to go.  Any help would be appreciated...

Are they not on your new computer after you restored your iTunes backup?
    Didn't have a backup?
Unlike music you can download apps multiple times. Go to each app, download it (ignore the price) and after you click it will tell you that you've already purchased the app and ask if you want to download it again.

  • How can I transfer apps from iTunes library from one computer to another?

I have been unsuccessful in transferring my music over to my new MacBook from my PC Windows Vista. I even subscribed to MobileMe, but it wouldn't work! So, I have decided to take the time to copy all my music to CDs & do it that way, but how am I going to transfer my apps? If I sync my iPhone with my iTunes library on my MacBook once I have transferred the songs, won't the apps be erased on my phone? Is there a way using MobileMe I could do so? Please please please help.

Do you have access to an external hard drive that you were using for your computer's backup with your PC which has enough storage capacity for your entire iTunes library?
If so, using the external hard drive would be a good way to do this. You would transfer your iTunes named folder in your My Music folder on your PC followed by transferring the iTunes named folder from the external hard drive to the Music folder on your Mac - with iTunes quit when doing so. This will transfer all music, videos, 3rd party apps, playlists, etc. from your PC to your Mac.
If most of your iTunes library includes music purchased from the iTunes store, iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new MacBook with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If all 3rd party apps do not transfer from your iPhone to your iTunes library on your Mac, you can re-download purchased apps with iTunes on your MacBook and you won't be charged again as long as you use the same iTunes account that was used to purchase the 3rd party apps.

It is important to make a backup of your iTunes Music Library. In case of data loss, including hard drive failure or replacement, accidental deletion, and so forth, you'll be able to restore it from your backup.

  • Computer with main library crashed. How do I transfer all files from ipod onto new computer without them being erased on ipod?

The hard disk on my laptop which contained my main i-tunes library crashed. I want to make sure I have a backup of my music and apps on a different computer. How can I transfer the music and such from my ipod touch to the new computer without erasing everything on my touch when I try to sync it? Do I just have to start over from scratch? Alot of my music is copied over from my cd collection.

There are a number of third-party apps which will allow you to copy media from an iOS device into a computer's iTunes library. A popular one is Senuti; there are others which are free.
Stop over at macupdate.com or http://download.cnet.com/mac/3151-20_4-0.html?tag=vtredir and do a search.

The user data is stored in the profile folder. You can copy the data manually by copying the contents of the profile folder, for details see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup or https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Backing+up+your+information
There are some add-ons and utilities that can make this process easier. The first one is the FEBE add-on ([http://softwarebychuck.com/febe/febe70.html] - The Firefox 4 version is currently in beta) which can be used to copy a profile. Another option is the free MozBackup utility ([http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com])

To start, download iTunes 11.0.1 onto your computer. Connect your iPad to the computer, run iTunes and learn how to sync with your computer.
There is a link already in place in Safari on your iPad that will take you to the manual. Check out setting up your iPad, syncing and transferring your stuff in the manual.
