How do i transfer all my old data from my old computer to my new one?

I recently purchased a new computer and have all my iPod data on that computer but now want all that data removed from that computer and put on this one. Is this possible? If so can you tell me how to do it. I own an iPod Mini

Your best bet is probably to use your iPod Mini in disk more to move all the files from one computer to another. This article can show you how:

  • Can somebody tell me how to transfer iPhone/iPod backup data from my old computer to a new one?

Is it possible for me to transfer the backup data of my iPod touch and iPhone from my old computer to a new one? I don't own any Macs, only PCs. My backup data are saved on a PC (desktop) which has Windows XP SP2 as its OS and I am planning to transfer my iPod/iPhone backup data to a laptop with Windows 7 as its OS. Is it possible? If so, can someone tell me the step-by-step procedure on how to do this, including how to find the folder where my backup data is stored. I would be very much grateful. Thanks a lot for those who may be able to help me with this matter.  ^_^
P.S. I am planning to use an external hard disk to transfer my backup data to the new computer.

Ah, I see. In that case your life will be much easier if you convert your library back into a portable format before you attempt to migrate it.
The normal location for the iTunes Library.itl file is the iTunes folder at <User's Music>\iTunes though it is possible that you have previously moved the library separately from moving the media folder, or you could have your media stored outside the designated iTunes Media folder.
Here are the typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
In the layout above, with the media folder (everything in the red box) inside the library folder, the library is considered to be portable. You can rearrange things to make a split library portable by taking a number of small steps which don't break the library.
Before you start any media files that are outside of the designated media folder will need to be consolidated. N.b. Your iTunes Media folder location should be on the target drive that you are going to build the portable library on. If you have the bulk of your library is stored in a folder on an external drive that is not currently designated as the iTunes Media folder then change this property (Edit > Preferences > Advanced) before consolidating.
If the library is in the old style layout then it should ideally be be upgraded to iTunes Media Organisation (Library > Organise Library > Rearrange files in the folder <Media Folder>) to ensure that iPod Games, Mobile Applications etc. are brought inside the media folder.
    The basic non-fatal manipulations are:
You can connect to an alternate set of library files by holding down Shift (Win) or Option (Mac) when starting iTunes.
You can move the library files to a new location as long as the media stays put.
You can move the library files and the media together if the media folder is a direct subfolder of the library folder.
If you have already moved/copied the media content from a subfolder of the library folder to a different location then you only need to copy the library files for it to appear as if you have moved the entire library in the way allowed above. I.e. just copy the library files into the parent folder of the media folder.
You can rename the media folder to iTunes Media (if it isn't already) if the media folder is inside the library folder.
iTunes uses the name of the folder holding the library files as the window title. Having made a library "portable" you may need to take a final step of renaming the library folder to iTunes or, if the library files have ended up at the root of a drive, moving all of the library files and content folders into a new folder called iTunes.
After each change you need to open, test and close the relevant library before attempting another change. If a change broke the library, undo it or revert to using the previous set of library files.
In essence all you need to do to make your library portable is copy the library files into the parent folder of the media folder on the external/secondary drive and use the hold-down-shift/option-when-starting-iTunes method to connect to it. Other manipulations may be required to normalize the library so that the library and media folders have standard names.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

Copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer to move iTunes content.
As for pictures, copy them from where there are on the old computer to the new computer... this has nothing to do with iTunes.
Alternatively, if both computers are Windows based, use the Windows Easy File Transfer Utility to move everything.

This is a question for my brother, and he has an iMac PPC (he calls it the "ball") from 2003, which has a FireWire port.  He wants to get a new iMac, which I see has the Thunderbolt port.
The new iMacs also have a FireWire 800 port, so a FireWire cable will work.  The "ball" sounds like a G4 iMac, which has a FireWire 400 port, so either a cable with different plugs or an adapter would be needed.
He has found your very detailed instructions about using Migration Asst
For best results, use Setup Assistant when the new Mac first starts up, not Migration Assistant later on.
to set up the new Mac with everything he currently has on his old Mac.
Since the old Mac is a PPC Mac, he/you probably should not transfer applications --  most 3rd-party apps that work on the old Mac won't work on the new one.
I see the Apple store has a Thunderbolt-Fire Wire cable -- will this do the trick?
It looks like it would, but it's F/W 800, so you'll still need a F/W 400-to-F/W 800 cable and an adapter.
Or, use an Ethernet cable and transfer via network.

You can restore the new iPad from a backup. You can also sync to transfer all apps, media, photos from your iTunes library to the new iPad.
Read this article to restore from a backup. Make sure that you backup your old iPad before you restore the new one to the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
From the support page to wipe the iPad clean...
    Erase all content and settings
If you don't have access to iTunes, you can use the following steps to completely erase your device:
    Tap Settings.
    Tap General.
    Tap Reset.
Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
You can also restore to factory settings to wipe the old iPad clean. The information is in the article from above.
I found this article and it will be helpful as well.

  • How to transfer music from an old computer to a new one without losing CD's that were loaded?

When I previously loaded my CD collection to my 1st laptop, I loaded it directly to iTunes. Now I have upgraded my laptop, and would like to transfer all of that music to my iTunes account on the new one. However, when I load iTunes, I only have the option to transfer the purchases made from iTunes (music only, it is not transfering the apps I purchased)
Is there a way to transfer all of my music (uploaded from my CD's) to the new computer, without having to go back and physically put each CD in the new computer & upload the songs again? Also, how do I get my purchased apps & free apps to transfer as well?
    I appreciate any help.

If you still have the old laptop use iTunes on it to go to the File menu item Library > Back Up to Disc...
You can use this to create a backup copy of your entire iTunes library and load it into the iTunes on your new computer.

There's some third party applications available for recovering content off an iPod, iPhone or iPad. The following article is pretty old (2008) so it would be best to reality-check the capabilities and availability of the various listed items prior to opting for a particular product:

Hey, I had the exact same issue. The way that Apple explains to do it is change your iPod into hardrive mode by messing with the preferences. While your iPod is hooked up to your old compuer, go into preferences and check the box saying enable disk use. Then your iPod will appear on the desktop and you can drag the song files into it. I don't know if you can transfer them all at once or not. Anyway, then you hook up the iPod into the new computer and drag the songs into iTunes. I had trouble doing this and it erased all my songs one time but I think it was an error on my part. Another way to do it is to send the song files through AIM. Have someone on the old computer and you on the new one and send them in large bunches to the new computer. Yet another way is to e-mail them to yourself and download them on to the new computer. The sure-fire way (and the way I finally succumbed to but it worked!) is to download the program iPodCopy on the new computer and follow the instructions to have your music quickly and easily copied. It does cost $17.00 dollars to download but I was willing to pay the price to have my music transferred hassle-free. Just type iPodCopy into google and it should come up. After months of trying and searching how to transfer my music to the new computer, this was my last resort and it was well worth it!
I hope my suggestions help you out in your iPod escapades!
Let me know if they work. Buenas Suerte.

there are a number of scenarios to do it.
The general idea was covered here:

Make sure you have a full backup of your iPhone before recyncing with the iMac as during this process all data will be wiped out from your iPhone.
