How do I transfer AppleWorks from OS9 to OSX?

Disappointed to find after buying new imac that none of the software preinstalled will open my old AppleWorks docs and spreadsheets. I have tried copying my old copy of AppleWorks 6 and installing on the new imac but it won't recognise it as an application. I have tried installing the 6.2.8 update onto my old imac, but it fails - claiming it can't find the application and telling me to reinstall the software. This I have tried, but still it cannot update. The application still runs without a hitch on the old machine.
Can anybody help? Or do I have to go through each doc on my old imac converting them to something my new imac can understand.
Very frustrating...
imac 5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Disappointed to find after buying new imac that none

Pages, part of the iWork '06 trial, will open AppleWorks word processing documents.
Microsoft Office also has a translator for AppleWorks word processing documents, but I'm not sure if this is part of the MS Office trial that is installed on your iMac.
I have tried
copying my old copy of AppleWorks 6 and installing on
the new imac but it won't recognise it as an
application. I have tried installing the 6.2.8 update

update. The application still runs without a hitch on
the old machine.
You only need to burn a copy of the AppleWorks 6 folder on your old Mac, and then copy the folder into the /Applications folder on your new Mac. AppleWorks 6 should then work fine.
NB You're only licensed to use one copy of AppleWorks so you should delete AppleWorks 6 on your old Mac.
Can anybody help? Or do I have to go through each doc
on my old imac converting them to something my new
imac can understand.
In the longer term you should consider converting your AppleWorks documents to another format. That's because AppleWorks is not being updated by Apple and is being gradually replaced by iWork.

  • Desperate transfer struggle from OS9 to OSX

I posted this before but, here is a better more clear update.
I have an PPC 8600 (with G3 upgrade card - but that doesn't make any difference) running OS9.
I have 15 years of mostly Pagemaker, Freehand, Illustrator, and Photoshop work on it.
I recently needed some of that work for display. Simple, I did this a few years ago when I moved to OSX. Plug in an ethernet cable and turn on file sharing (either with the old Mac or my MacPro) Then, on the old Mac, open up files, make EPS/PDF/Etc. versions, copy them to the new Mac.
But I could *not get the ethernet connection to work*. Either via an Apple Airport router or crossover ethernet cable. I finally thought, it has to be the old Mac built in ethernet. It was fried. After much searching, and help from here (thanks) I found an ethernet card I could put in the old Mac.
Well, it was not the built in ethernet hardware. The new card shows up but, the lack of any network connection remains. Making sharing on the old Mac = nothing on the MacPro. Make sharing on the MacPro, and when I enter the afp, the old Mac says it is not working. Check my settings, TCP/IP, etc. Which I have, a million times.
Earlier I had tried copying EPS and other files over to a USB card BUT I think because these old Macs have limits on drive size (plus, it was a USB 1.0 card I added to the old Mac - which might have limits), it would not fully work. The copy process would bomb part way through on certain files. Even a little bit at a time.
At this point, I thought I would work with the old files on the old Mac. Convert many to EPS, etc (formats OSX can read). Then, remove one of the ATA drives I have in the old Mac, remove it (hassle) and plug it into an adaptor to transfer the files to the new Mac. Will that work or will OSX reject an OS9 formated drive?
The basic networking of the two Macs was the easiest way to deal with this and it just won't work. Any other ideas?
Really worried now my stuff is trapped on OS9 forever. If I could just get EPS and other archival and cross platform files copied over…

The basic networking of the two Macs was the easiest way to deal with this and it just won't work.
It still is, but if you have advanced beyond 10.3, support for Appletalk File Sharing has been removed.
    7.5.3 and later File Sharing:
Any Mac running 7.5.3 or later (with at least OpenTransport 1.1.2 and AppleShare Chooser extension 3.7.4) can share the files of any Mac running OS 9 or later using built-in File Sharing using IP. What is not supported beyond 10.3 is File Sharing via AppleTalk. In addition, Sharing initiated from your 10.4 or 10.5 Mac to a Mac before OS 9 is not supported directly. So you will have to make the connection from the Older Mac end. Alternatively, you could install "Shareway IP" (a low-cost utility) on the older Mac and connect from the newer Mac.
You need an appropriate Ethernet connection, and each Mac must have a similar (but not identical) IP Address. On the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac: You must turn on File Sharing in your 10.4 or later Mac:
System Preferences > Sharing > Services pane > \[X] Personal File Sharing
    and click ( Start )
Look up the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac's IPv4 Address in System Profiler OR Network Preferences, and write it down for later. It may resemble 192.168.0.6
On the Older Mac: open the Chooser and select AppleShare. Your 10.4 or 10.5 Mac will NOT appear in the right-hand pane, because it does not speak AppleTalk File Sharing protocol. But do not despair!
It can speak IP protocol, if you ask it nicely. So click on the "Server IP Address" button on the bottom of the right pane, and enter the IPv4 Address of the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac.
The login screen that appears is sent to you from the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac. Enter a Username and password that is valid on the 10.4 or 10.5 Mac. Choose the drive(s) you want to mount, if there is a choice, and they will appear on the desktop of the Older Mac as shared Network Drives (Drive Icon with a cable coming out the bottom).
Drag whatever you like to the newly-mounted drive. It will appear on the 10.4 or later Mac. Try to resist the temptation to drag your whole drive all at once. Move smaller batches in a thoughtful way, and you should have no problems.

  • How to move iMovie files from OS9 to OSX?

I need to move files from an old iMac running OS9 (9.2.1) to an Intel Mac running OS X (10.6.4). The iMac does have firewire, if that’s helpful. Would target disk work for this task? I believe the files are iMovie and iMovie2.
My goal is editing in iMovie09; I don’t know if iMovie9 can recognize files that old. I’ve read about folder structure changes… So, I guess my question is twofold: does the OS have anything/more/less to do with this, than the iMovie version does? Or is the OS irrelevant here?
I don’t know where to begin. I hope there’s a simple safe solution and I’m making this more complicated than it needs to be.
    Any help appreciated.

You must move the Event files from within iMovie to your external drive. If you move them in the Finder, your project will no longer work.
First, make sure your external drive is formatted as HFS+ (journalled), (or Mac OS (journalled) - same thing)
Second, in iMovie, select VIEW/EVENTS BY VOLUME
Third, in the EVENTS Source List, you should now see your hard drive. Drag and drop the Events onto the Drive Icon in the Events Source List.
Leave the Project Files where they are. They are not very big. If you upgrade to iMovie 09, you can move the Project files, too.

  • How can I transfer photos from my Imac OS9 to a Macbook Pro OS 10 ? 10

How can I transfer photos from my Imac OS9 to a Macbook Pro OS 10 ?

The easiest way is probably to use a USB flash drive (you may have to test whether it is compatible with the Mac OS 9 iMac).
Somewhat more complicated would be to connect the two computers via Ethernet to (the built-in switch of) a broadband router, and then transfer files over the Internet (or a local network).
There are other methods as well (FireWire, CD-R, et cetera), depending upon the exact computer models involved.

How can I transfer work from one computer to another?

    Welcome to the forum.
I can think of three basic ways to accomplish what you wish to do:
Use the Project Archiver to archive your Project (and check the box to gather the media files), to an external HDD. Probably the easiest way to do it.
Copy the Project and ALL media files to an external HDD, but be prepared to relink the media files to the Project, as the drive letter (part of the Absolute Path) will have changed.
Edit loosely, and Share to an AV file, which will be Imported into a New Project on that second computer. Or, edit VERY tightly, and do the same. I like the first, as removing, replacing Transitions, etc., can be much more difficult, unless that "tight edit" is 100% done.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

how can I transfer information from one ipad to another ?

What kind of information? You can sync things like Contacts and Calendars by using iCloud. You can backup one iPad to iTunes on a computer and then sync the backup to the other iPad. You can configure your iTunes content and sync the same content to both iPads.
It is based on what you want to do. Or are you looking for a way to send files from one iPad to another wirelessly? There are apps to do things like that, as well as cloud services, such as DropBox.

One way would be to e-mail them from yourself to yourself. That would totally avoid the different ID issue.

All your media should be in your iTunes library. Then you can place it on any device you wish. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • How can I transfer photos from ipad 1 to pc

    I have an ipad 1 - ios 5.1.1
I want to transfer the photos on the ipad to a windows 8 pc.
Should be a really simple operation - yes? wrong.
After visiting 30+ webpages, downloading various 3rd party software (and deleting them again) - I am still unable to transfer photos from my ipad to a windows pc.
I connect the ipad 1 to a pc using cable.
    PC shows ipad.
Then you get the option to import photos (Which 20+ websites just repeat).
Contained in the DCIM Folder is 2 thumbnail photos. Yes - just 2. Two.
Stored on the ipad is nearly 3,000 photo's. NOT 2!
So how do you move photos from an ipad to PC?
    Next problem.
Someone recommended using Syncios - wonderful.
    All photos found.
All photos copied - except they are copied as thumbnails.
It would seem that ipad stores your photos as a thumbnail - but when you email the photo the true size is sent. (Thumbnail is 11kb - when I attach the same photo to an email it shows it as 1.1mb)
So - apart from creating and sending 3000 emails - so that I can transfer photos at their original resolution - HOW DO YOU TRANSFER PHOTOS FROM IPAD 1 TO A PC.
Apple really couldn't have made a 30second operation more difficult - or deliberately impossible.
There is NO option to do this via iTunes.
I can transfer photos from a PC to iPad using iTunes - but not the other way around.
So - please - does anyone have a degree in astro-physics that can explain how a person is supposed to transfer full sized photos, that are stored as thumbnails - from an iPAD 1 to a Win 8 pc?
ps... and yes I am irritated. This has taken me 2 days so far, and still unable.
pps... and no, I really don't need people posting - oh yes I have the same problem... I need answers.

HHow did the photos get on your iPad? since the original iPad does not have a camera, the photos were either received in emails, copied from the web or synced from your computer. If they were copied from emails or the web they should be available to copy off the iPad using whatever Camera or image capture application you have on your computer. Connect your iPad, start the application and transfer the photos.
if the photos were synced from your computer, they should still be on the computer used to sync from.

  • How do i transfer data from one internal tabe to another.

    Hi All,
How do i transfer data from one internal tabe to another.
Can i do it ebven if he tables are different in structure.
    Please Advice.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Saket Tiwari,
I hope the earlier post by kashyap is good enough an answer. anywas in addition to it let me give a detailed
explanation of how you can populate an internal table.
    1) Append data line by line.
Syntax :  APPEND [<wa> TO / INITIAL LINE TO] <itab>.
this appends new line to internal table <itab>.
    2) Using COLLECT statement.
COLLECT is another form of statement used for populating the internal tables.  Generally COLLECT is used while inserting lines into an internal table with unique standard key. The syntax for COLLECT statement is as shown
         Syntax : COLLECT [<wa> INTO] <itab>.
    3) Using INSERT statement
Syntax  INSERT [<wa> INTO / INITIAL LINE INTO] <itab> [index <idx>].
INSERT statement adds a line/work area to the internal table. You can specify the position at which the new line is to be added by using the INDEX clause with the INSERT statement.
    Now coming to your request..
To append part or all of an internal table
         Syntax
APPEND LINES OF <itab1> [FROM <n1>] [TO <n2>] TO <itab2>.
    *     Note:
Without the FROM and TO options, this statement appends the entire table <itab1> to <itab2>.*
    b) To insert part or all of an internal table into another internal table
         Syntax
INSERT LINES OF <itab1> [FROM <n1>] [TO <n2>]
              INTO <itab2> [INDEX <idx>].
    c) Using Move statement.
To copy entire contents of one table into another in one execution
         Syntax MOVE  <itab1> To <itab2>.
                   OR
              <itab1> = <itab2>.
but u hav to be careful because he contents of itab2 will eb overwritten on the execution of this statement.
These copy the contents of ITAB1 to ITAB2. Incase of internal tables with header line we have to use [] inorder to distinguish from work area. So, to copy contents of internal tables with header line  the syntax becomes,
    ITAB1[] = ITAB2[].
Coming to the letter part of your question, Yes, we can copy values between tables having different structures.
    for this we use
                                MOVE-CORRESPONDING <itab1> TO <itab2>
this executes the statement for their header lines. Searches for the sub-fields which occur both in itab1 and itab2 and then generates, for all relevant field pairs which correspond to the
sub-fields ni , statements of the form MOVE itab1-ni TO itab2-ni. The other fields remain unchanged.
I hope the information provided has been of your help.
    Reward if useful.
    Regards,
    Jose
