How do I transfer data from an old Powerbook G4 w/non working screen to my 2008 iMac. I want to save my photo collection.
I have an old G4 Powerbook that has suddenly lost it's screen. It just flickers at times. I want to get the iPhoto data with lots of pictures out of the G4 and onto my 2008 iMac. I have no idea how to network these two and it is complicated by the loss of screen on the laptop. I know the laptop is up and running after I TURN IT ON BECAUSE WHEN THE SCREEN DOES IT'S FLICKER ON AND OFF BIT I CAN SEE THE DESK TOP. HOWEVER, THESE FLICKERS ARE SO BRIEF I CANNOT PERFORM any TASKS (woops) on the laptop. Help???
I will post my experience just in case someone else has this problem. John was right about the Firewire cable being the 800 9 pin job for both my PB G4 (2003 version) and my iMac (2008 version). Even though there was no screen to look at on the PB I was able to get into the target disk mode by first hooking up the firewire cable to my iMac and then the PB, then, holding down the "T" key on the PB I started it up. The iMac was already up and running.
It took several seconds but eventually a target disc icon for my PB showed up on the desktop of my iMac. Double clicking on the icon let me have access to all that was in the PB.
Sort of and here is where it got dicey. My PB and iMac do not run the same OSX versions, the PB being pretty old. Additionaly the cause of my concern was my wife's photos stored in some obscure location on the PB and using an old version of iPhoto which did not mesh at all with my iMac version.
After a bit of poking about and trying different work arounds I got lucky and a info box poped up saying that the data needed to be upgraded to be read by my newer version of iPhoto. Long storey short I went down this path and got everything transfered to the iMac. Just not sure how I got on that path, but I did.

How do i transfer data from my old macbook to a new macbook pro?
how do i transfer data from my old macbook to a new macbook pro?
i have an ether net cable will this help?I've used Migration Assistant in the past and it's working like a champ. You either want to connect your MBPs using a Firewire cable or have them connected to the same router with Ethernet cabling. Don't attempt a wifi transfer - it could take a whole day.
Both links provided are good - they both point to various ways to transfer data. I just prefer MA.

How do I transfer data from an old MacBook to a new MacBook air?
Everything you need to know, right here. Make sure you read through it BEFORE you turn on the new Mac for the first time. This is because the preferred means is using Setup Assistant, which is only available form the first boot.

HOW DO I TRANSFER DATA FROM MY IMAC TO MY NEW MACBOOK PRO? I tried it with an ethernet cable and it seems to go OK till it gets to applications. From there the time it takes to complete seems to increase rather than decrease!
That's the easiest way, this side of using Time Machine. The time it takes to transfer files between our computers ka vary but while doing it on my MBP I had to leave it plugged in for near 24 hours and it was supposed to take 3.

How do I transfer data from my old Mac to my new Mac?
The display on my Macbook Pro is broken, so I got a new Macbook Air. How do I go about transferring all my data (Word documents and iTunes mainly) from my old laptop to my new one?
You could try using target disk mode from your macbook pro to your macbook air. It basically alows you to see your macbook pro as a harddrive.

Not sure if your pro has thunderbolt, otherwise you may need a thunderbolt to firewire adapter.

hello! i went to the Genius Bar and they told me my logic board needed to be replaced on my old white macbook 13". however, i need to get my data and information from my old macbook but my old macbook won't turn on. i was told by Genius Bar that the hard drive could be accessed via the 3 screws when the battery was removed and the hard drive could be turned into a external hard drive once removed. that way i could transfer my music, movies, pictures, etc. they told me that Best Buy could do the data transfer for me. i went to Geek Squad but they told me the hard drive wasn't accessable behind those 3 screws, that the ram was there instead. i just want to transfer my data. please help!
Your Geek Squad wasn't very geeky. the hard drive is right next to the RAM.
Here's the three screws
Here's the hard drive tab that pulls the hard drive out.
Here's the hard drive out and you can see the RAM in it's slots. -

How do i transfer data from a old itunes to a new one
My brother and I are tired of my little sister using our apple account. When we gave her my old iPod touch i told her to tell me if she was going to purchase something but she hasn't listened to me. My brother just got a iPhone and picked up a $15 iTunes card so we had 15.03 as of last night, as of now we have 11.83 and my brother and I haven't touched iTunes or the app store. I was going to change the password but apple added a thing so you have to have alteast 1 capital letter and one # and our current password has none of those. she has her own computer in her room so we are just going to do that. is there a way that I can just plug her iPod in the computer and it will download everything on her iPod(music, apps, etc.) and it can be by apple or other software. Any help would be appreciated. She has a iPod touch 3g 8gb upgraded max to 4.2.1 if that is needed
does anyone have any help for my brother an i

I am going to purchase the latest Mac Book Pro. How do I transfer data from my very old Macbook running OS 10.4?
You may want to use the Migration Assistant, which appears the first time you start up the new machine during setup, and also is available later (it is found in /Applications/Utilities.) Note that if you are running 10.4.x on the old MacBook both machines need to use FireWire to do this, but the late 2006 MacBook has that. You will need a special 4 pin to 6 pin FireWire adapter cable, as the FireWire ports on the newest MacBook Pros are different.
