How do I transfer data from Mac Mini to Macbook Pro

How do I transfer data from a Mac Mini (10.6.8) to a Macbook Pro (10.7)?

Hi David,
When you first start the MBP, run Setup Assistant and connect the two machines with a FireWire cable.

You may want to use the Migration Assistant, which appears the first time you start up the new machine during setup, and also is available later (it is found in /Applications/Utilities.) Note that if you are running 10.4.x on the old MacBook both machines need to use FireWire to do this, but the late 2006 MacBook has that. You will need a special 4 pin to 6 pin FireWire adapter cable, as the FireWire ports on the newest MacBook Pros are different.

transfer data from toshiba pc to macbook pro

You can transfer data a few ways from PC to MAC.
If you have an external hard drive formatted to a readable format, you can manually transfer data this way.
Or, you can use Windows Migration Assistant:

How do you transfer music from my macbook pro to someone's Ipad?

This doesn't appear to be an option anymore.
I can check songs but there's no transfer button -
Syncing doesn't transfer songs in that direction -
You can add to a playlist but the song still isn't there.

  • Transfer Pictures from Mac Mini to Macbook?

I need to retrieve some photos from my Mac Mini for use in my Macbook.
I have Mac Mini but no monitor for it.
Macbook is hooked up to wireless DSL.
How can I do this with no monitor to see the info on the Mac MIni?
    Thanks!

If you have a firewire cable, you could connect the two Macs together and start the Mini up in Firewire Target Disk Mode. Then the Mini's hard drive would appear on the MacBook's desktop as a hard drive.

  • How do I sync files on Mac mini and MacBook pro

I want to sync files between my Mac Mini and my MacBook Pro. Is there a way to do this? Primarily, I want to access photos in my LightRoom Catalog from both platforms. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Note that there's a difference between sharing and syncing.
Sharing will allow you to access the files on your Mini from your MBP, but the files won't be on your MBP when you take it somewhere else.
Syncing is making both Macs have identical copies of files, so that a change on one Mac makes a change on the other Mac.
If you've got a large LightRoom catalogue and limited space on your MBP, then you want sharing. The link above should get you started with that.
For syncing, I recommend BitTorrent Sync, which is free. It's basically "DropBox without the cloud". You select a folder to sync, and then whenever your two Macs are on the same network, any file in that folder that changes is synced to the other Mac.
I use it to keep my entire Documents folder synced between my Mini and MBP.

You may need to be careful about modifying the same document on both computers at the same time, though I believe BS does handle this in some way. Also, if you're syncing an app's data library, then some database files (e.g. with computer-specific data like file path names) may not sync well.
Of course, you could use DropBox, though you'll need to subscribe if you want more than a couple of GB.

  • How do I transfer music from my ipod or macbook pro to my ipad

Once again, how do I transfer my music from my ipod or itunes library to my ipad?

    You have 2 separate questions.
One is getting stuff from iTunes to your iPad.  The other is getting stuff from the iPod to anything else.
By default, you can't transfer anything from iDevices to iTunes.  There are several third party programs, however, that allow you to do this.
Getting stuff from iTunes to the iPad is a case of plugging in the iDevice and dragging-dropping the files you want to your device.  Or syncing the relevant stuff.  There is plenty of literature on this available in iTunes or on the Apple site.
    Hope that answers your question.

I want to transfer documents, pictures and iTunes library from Dell pc running Windows Vista to new MacBook pro running Yosemite.

Use the Migration Assistant, or move the files manually through file sharing or an external drive. If you've already set the MacBook Pro up and use the Migration Assistant, the files will be put into a different user account.

  • Don't want to pollute my ipad how can I selectively transfer data from mac mini?

I have had users on this computer that have downloaded questioanble resources. I have grandchildren and we like to play on my ipad I do not want any objectionalbe video on this ipad.  I also don't want to make my creative content available for duplication to a user who had hooked up their iphone.  I am attempting to start over with my ipad. I have tried to keep them off the main computer but I need safeguards since the user is opportunistic. They also have a better understanding and advantage I am however an administrator at least as much as much as my husband allows me. I believe this user could still manupulate via wireless or remote with her iphone. I want to stop her completely but I know to challenge this user completely would mean an esculation. I have seen my email with another adress attached . I sometimes put in the exact password and still find for a short period cannot get into e-mail an Apple password  might not work? Is there script I can see that would suggest a problem.

Your situation is a little bit confusing to me, but I will give this a try. I hope that I fully understand what you are trying to do.
There is no way that anyone can access your iPad wirelessly or remotely at all. It just is not possible to do that in iOS. Because of the sandboxed nature of the iOS, it will not allow that type of interaction. However, if your iPad has been "polluted" by another user or that user's content, you might want to totally erase the drive and start all over again, and not restore from a backup. Erase it and start all over again completely. You will still be able to download most if not all of your paid content again as long as you use the same Apple ID that you used to make the purchases.
Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings will totally wipe the iPad clean and you will have to activate the device all over again. Don't restore from the backup when you get to the point during the activation where you are prompted to do so.
If you want to download all of your constant again, read this.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store ... - Support - Apple
Erasing your iPad and starting over again is pretty radical if you are not absolutely sure that this users has really sabotaged the device. Please make sure that you realize what you are doing, and if I am reading the situation incorrectly, please state that in your response.
What you are saying about this user having access to your computer is certainly concerning and without knowing what the circumstances surrounding her ability to do so, I can only recommend that you discuss this situation with your husband and take steps to prevent her from using it, or at least from using it without you being there to observe.

  • How do I transfer data from my pc to macbook air using a cable?

I have just bought a Macbook Air and have a lot of photos, music and videos on my old PC. It isn't wireless or on a network and transferring via CD or memeory stick is taking an age. I have been advised you can buy a cable but not sure what it is called. Can anyone help. Please!

There's several options available, they're not perfectly but from my experience they work just fine. Here's an example of just two -
    Move2Mac - http://www.detto.com/move-2-mac-overview.php
    Belkin Transfer System - http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Mac-Transfer-Kit-White/dp/B001GTM4HQ
You can also wire the two machines together via Ethernet and network them together but you'll require the USB-to-Ethernet adapter for the MacBook Air.
Also as Kenneth suggested, there's the option of using an external HD and migrating.

  • How do I transfer music from iBook to my MacBook Pro?

Trying to transfer my iTunes library to my new MBP.
    Is firewire the best method?
    Thanks for any help.

You should ask your question to the Itunes forum.
Personnally I did use the migration assistant that not only copied my Itunes over but also all my settings and mails and safari preferences..
A simpler way would be to copy your whole Itune folder BEFORE running Itunes for the first time on your MBP.
