How do I transfer files from my iPod to my new computer when most of my content is ripped from discs, not purchased from iTunes?
All of the topics I've read that discuss transferring files from an old iPod, to a new computer don't address the issue of the files NOT being purchased from iTunes. My windows vista computer died, and I downloaded the iTunes software onto my new 8.1 computer, but my "classic", with 90G of content won't sync with the new iTunes. Yes, I have authorized the new computer. Of course, I had no chance to download my library from my old computer, to my new, because the old one's dead. It seems that you aren't allowed to transfer your entire library, just merch from iTunes. I feel there must be a work around, and Apple's just making it difficult for some reason. I'd hate to think I have to go through the time comsuming task of reloading thousands of CDs to my new computer. Any help out there? I would think this scenario happens all the time.
Unfortunately, it does happen all the time.
It's always been a sensible idea to maintain a backup of your iTunes Library on something like an external hard drive. iTunes does not allow for transfer from the iPod to iTunes, in the main, to prevent illegal copying of music.
I believe a programme such as Yamipod will allow you to copy from an iPod to iTunes, although I've never tried it.

HT1473 how can i put music from my ipod to my new computer when my old computer died?
My old windows laptop died and can not get anything off it, I now have a new windows laptop and want to transfer the music from my iPod to my new laptop. How can I do this??
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player. -
It is not showing my ipod as registered on this computer by the way.
If all the numerous user profiles are yours, just sign in with the relevant passwords. If they are not then you shouldn't be using the media anyway...

Hard drive data is unrecoverable as drive no longer spins. All of my music is on my iPod and don't want to loose it. How can I get my music back onto the new Windows 7 laptop without loosing during a sync?
Thank youYou don't specify iPod classic or iPod touch...
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation (iOS devices only)
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup (iOS devices only)
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps. (iOS devices only)
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

How do i transfer all my ipod songs from my ipod to my new computer?
how do i transfer all my ipod songs from my ipod to my new computer?
i stil have my old computer. but i have 500 songs. so i dont want to burn them onto cds then upload them. is there a way to transfer the songs from the ipod to my new computer?
dell demension 9100 Windows XPHey, I had the exact same issue. The way that Apple explains to do it is change your iPod into hardrive mode by messing with the preferences. While your iPod is hooked up to your old compuer, go into preferences and check the box saying enable disk use. Then your iPod will appear on the desktop and you can drag the song files into it. I don't know if you can transfer them all at once or not. Anyway, then you hook up the iPod into the new computer and drag the songs into iTunes. I had trouble doing this and it erased all my songs one time but I think it was an error on my part. Another way to do it is to send the song files through AIM. Have someone on the old computer and you on the new one and send them in large bunches to the new computer. Yet another way is to e-mail them to yourself and download them on to the new computer. The sure-fire way (and the way I finally succumbed to but it worked!) is to download the program iPodCopy on the new computer and follow the instructions to have your music quickly and easily copied. It does cost $17.00 dollars to download but I was willing to pay the price to have my music transferred hassle-free. Just type iPodCopy into google and it should come up. After months of trying and searching how to transfer my music to the new computer, this was my last resort and it was well worth it!
I hope my suggestions help you out in your iPod escapades!
Let me know if they work. Buenas Suerte.

My computer crashed and I lost my iTunes library and music. The music is however on my iPod 5th Generation. How do I move my music to my husbands computer, where he has his own music....or how do I transfer or add my music from my iPod to my iPad?
I also lost all my gift card money on my iTunes account. Can I add my iTunes account to a computer that already has an iTunes account?I have read this, but it does not help. My crashed computer had my iTunes library with MY iTunes ID. The new computer and iPad that i want to transfer my music to, that is on my iPod, is under a different iTunes account. Can I still transfer my music from my iPod to a new computer that has a different ID?

My old computer has crashed. My new computer has my iphone account. How can I transfer my playlist from my ipod to my new computer?
Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:
