How do I transfer itunes from PC to Macbook?

I copied my itunes folder from Windows Explorer and saved it into my Music folder on my new Macbook.  The Music showed up, but none of my playlists.  I've spend a ton of time creating these playlists so I'm hoping I can get those to transfer for over as well.  Any suggestions?

Ok I replaced the entire iTunes folder and all my playlists are showing now.  Thank you for getting me this far!  However, some of the songs in my playlists have the exclamation point showing up stating the file can't be located.  Problem is I don't have the file on my computer (old or new) in any other folder than my iTunes folder b/c (to the best of my recollection), these were all iTunes purchased and downloaded files.  Isn't there a way iTunes can re-download all my missing purchases?

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.

If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  (or wherever the equivalent is on Windows) then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

This really depends on how technical you want to get, and how much of the library data you want to retain. First, there is getting the actual song files over to your new computer. If both computers are on the same network and are on iTunes 9, you can use home sharing to transfer the song files to your new computer.
Once the files are transferred, now you have to get all of the metadata transferred, like Playlists and Song Ratings. There is a method for doing this that involves editing your Library.xml file to transfer Playlists, Playcounts, etc..
If all you want to transfer is your Playlists and song files, there are programs that will back up your playlists so you can transfer them to a new computer, but if you're able to do the above XML edits (which are pretty simple), that is preferred (and cheaper).
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

Unless you've moved away from the default iTunes settings simply copying the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source machine into <User's Music> on the target computer (over a network, or via an intermediate copy on a portable drive) will transfer the library.
See this migrate iTunes library post for more.
This gives you the same library, not a new library with the same content.

  • How do I transfer itunes from one library to another on two different PC's?

I have an ipod mini and have an itunes library on my home pc as well as my work pc. How can I transfer itunes from one to the other and keep them in synch?

There is no simple way to do it, as itunes wont let you use it on another computer without wiping the contents first.
    However if you really want to transfer songs to another computer then you could try this;
    * make sure that your ipod is accessible as a disk drive (ipod options)
    * when you plug your ipod into the computer you want to transfer to make sure you select "no" or "cancel" when it asks to wipe the contents. Leave the ipod connected and quit from itunes.
    * go to "my computer" and access the ipod directly. You probably have to select "view hidden files" from windows. You will see a lot of folders with odd names like ZX838aff with similar named files inside.
    * copy these files to a folder on your computers hardrive. Now remove the ipod and start itunes.
    * import the files from the folder you made in the last step.
    * Now your music is on itunes, but with unrecogisable names.
This is the only way I have found to do it, but there may be another way, say with an application to do the hard work for you.

How do I transfer iTunes from my PC to my Mac Laptop?

You can't transfer the application since they are for different operating systems.
You would have to download iTunes for your Mac.
To transfer your songs, videos etc, just copy all the files in your ITunes directory to a portable hard drive, and connect the hard drive to your mac.
In iTunes on your mac, make sure the preference (under advanced) for "keep itunes folder organized" is checked.
Then add the folder from your portable hard drive, and all songs will will transferred to your mac.

i have an ether net cable will this help?

I've used Migration Assistant in the past and it's working like a champ. You either want to connect your MBPs using a Firewire cable or have them connected to the same router with Ethernet cabling. Don't attempt a wifi transfer - it could take a whole day.
Both links provided are good - they both point to various ways to transfer data. I just prefer MA.

Everything you need to know, right here. Make sure you read through it BEFORE you turn on the new Mac for the first time. This is because the preferred means is using Setup Assistant, which is only available form the first boot.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.  If you have to use a small flash drive to do the moving you can copy the files and folders groups at a time but make sure they all end up in the same folder structure in the end.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.

  • How do I transfer music from iPad to macbook?

I've previously had all music etc on a PC with iPad, iPhone synced to that.  I want to transfer music from my iPad (as it's got all the CDs I laboriously added to my PC!) to my new macbook but can't find how to?  I did try to transfer directly from PC to macbook using migratoin assistant but it dropped wifi constantly so gave up..

You can copy iTunes purchased music from a device via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. For music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) you will need a third-party program on your Mac to copy them back from a device - there are some listed half-way down this page : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
There are also other methods of copying music between computers : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
If you will be syncing the iPad and iPhone to your Mac then you may also find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
