How do I transfer itunes library from one apple id to another?

My husband and I used to share an Apple id, under which I uploaded music from my old CDs and we also both purchased music in itunes.  But I have since established my own Apple ID in an attempt to organize my music and downloaded a few things there.  Since puchasing a new apple desktop and having our files transferred, I would really like to "copy" or "share", not sure what the right term would be, all of the music under the original id to my own and keep things separate from here on out.  But how do I get, or bring up, all the old music in my new(er) apple id?

Music from your cds in not "under" and Apple id at all.
Put all of the music in your itunes library.  that simple.
Music is not in an id.  it is on a computer.  Put it wherever you like.

  • Transfer iTunes content from one Apple ID to another Apple ID

I have recently set up a second Apple ID so that I can separate content I want my kids to be able to access and other content that I don't want them to see (eg particular TV shows and movies) and have set up a separate computer through that I want to load with content suitable for them.  Is it possible for me to transfer content purchased on iTunes from one Apple ID/iTunes account to a different one?  Are there any tips/tricks for this?  Any problems or watch-outs?  Thanks.

    Hi H.E. Bear,
Sorry, but iTunes purchases are forever tied to the Apple ID that they were purchased under. There is no way to transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another.
You can, however, Authorize that original ID to the new computer (along with the new one for the kids). Once you have Authorized it, you can transfer selected purchases into the iTunes Library on that computer:

  • How do I move iTunes library from one user account to another?

I bought apps for a (now obsolete) Apple ID, however, I then created a new Apple ID, which I now use.  How do I delete the old Apple ID and is it possible to move my iTunes library and other files and folders from my current user account to a newly created user account?  Will this allow me to use only the new Apple ID instead of having to sign in/out bewteen 2 IDs which is frustrating.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • HT3819 How do you transfer purchased music from one apple id to another?

I have a different Apple ID on my ipad than my macbook and macbook pro, I have most music on the macbooks but some on ipad how do I combine? This happend because when I was at the apple store buying my ipad I could not remember my other ID, so we made a new one. Fast forward to now, I have downloaded music on the ipad and want it on the macbooks also. How do I transfer the purchased music to the macbooks soi can change my ID on the ipad to gain access to all?

Authorize your computer for both accounts, then transfer the purchases to the computer:  File>Transfer Purchases
You cannot change the account, but you can put them in the same library.

  • How do I transfer iTunes Library from external hard drive to another drive?

I have filled by 160GB drive with my iTunes music library so I am purchasing a 400GB external drive. I want to transfer the entire library to the bigger drive. Can I simply drag via fire wire then entire libarary to the new drive and then "tell" by iTunes Mac where it is? Any step by step would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

I just posted this to another topic, but it applies here as well. Hopefully there's no prohibition on cross-posting on this board, my apologies to all if there is:
"I haven't read the whole thread, so someone could have already mentioned this, but I did the same thing, move my music library to an external drive. The Help articles are helpful, but only up to a point. When that didn't work, I called up AppleCare support up, and they took me through all the standard steps, and got stumped at the same point I did. Finally she suggested trying something, and that ended up doing the trick. So here in brief is what you do:
    1) Copy over your "iTunes Music" folder to the external hard drive
    2) Go into Advanced preferences to have iTunes look for the "iTunes Music" folder in the new location. If you're like me, your music won't appear in the Library.
    3) In iTunes, go to the Library window (which is probably blank), then in a Finder window, find the icon for the "iTunes Music" folder in the new location. Drag that icon onto the Library window.
You should now see a progress window pop up showing all the songs that it's populating the Library window with."

  • How do I transfer music purchases from one apple id to another

I purchased music from Itunes years ago with an old apple id and old email address.  I am trying to play that music in my Itunes on my Dell Win7 laptop that uses a new apple id, and though the computer is authorized, it is authorized under the new apple id.  When I try to play the music, a box with the old apple id comes up, asking for a password.  I click 'Forgot' and am taken to a new screen that asks for my date of birth.  I enter it, and I get a big red message that this does not match there records.
I know the old apple id, but not the password, and the email address that was used for that apple id is no longer a valid email address for me.  The FAQ indicate that I should be able to authorize the music for multiple apple id's, but it does not say 'how'.
I tried changing the apple id and password to the new one when I tried to play the music, and nothing happened.  I can play the music that I added to itunes from cd's but not the purchased music.
I don't think this matters, but just in case it does:  I have a new iphone 6 that is authorized for my new apple id, but my issue right now is authorizing music on my laptop.  I'll tackle syncing the iphone with itunes on my laptop next.

You can’t. Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.

  • How can I transfer my purchases from one Apple ID to another?

I would like to consolidate all my wife's and my purchases into one existing Apple ID on our computer so we can share apps, music, books, etc.
I spoke with your Support Team who said this was possible if completing a particular form and requesting this formally with specific accounts and list of desired transfered purchases.
Do anyone know where this form is and has anyone been successful in doing it?

How can I transfer all iTunes purchases from one apple id to another?

Don't agree. I have two accounts, one for work which I set up years ago and bought a few tracks. I've recently bought iPhone and iPad and created a home ID and wanted to transfer the old purchaces. Everyone says it can't be done, but I've done it.
    1. on the iPhone/iPad change your "store" Apple ID to the one you want ot transfer from.
    2. go into iTune on the device and download the purchaces.
    3. on you PC/Mac change the iTunes login to the same as the device's ID
    4. sync your device
    5. change both ID's back and the purchaces stay on both iTunes and your device.
    Delmar,
The procedure you describe is putting content from two different IDs into a single library, which can readily be done.
However, each item of purchased content will still be tied to the ID from which it was originally purchased, and they will be treated separately for purposes of Cloud, Match, Purchase History, etc.

  • How do I move an iTunes library from one external drive to another?

I need to move my iTunes library from one external disk to another, because the original disk is about to fail. So, I went into iTunes Perferences --> Advanced, and set the library to a new, empty folder on the new drive.
Nothing changed. I expected all my music to vanish from iTunes, so that I would have to re-import it. However, all the music remained, still on the old disk. At this point, if I were to recreate the library on the new disk, I would have all of my music twice.
Is it possible to move an iTunes library from one external drive to another, or am I stuck with my original choice until I buy a new machine? If I can move it, can one of you clever folks explain how it could be done?

    Paul Seymour1 wrote:
However, those are all dealing with old versions of iTunes that still contained the Advanced --> Consolidate Library command which is no longer part of the app. (I'm on iTunes 10.6.1.)
Consolidate is still part of iTunes.
It is in iTunes menu File > Library > Manage library > Consolidate.
The article you linked to is old and it is (and was) a hacky way of doing it.
Just copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder to new location, hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) when launching iTunes.

how do i transfer iTunes money from one account to another? also forgot security question answers

You can't, an account's balance cannot be transferred to another account, nor can it be used to gift content to another account - it can only be used to buy content for the account that it's on.
For your security questions, if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then you can use that to reset them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
If your country isn't on that page then try this form and explain and see what they reply with : https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
When they've been reset, and if you don't already have a rescue email address, you can then add one for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
Or, if it's available in your country, you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570
