How to Transfer iTunes Library from Windows to Mac

I'm having some trouble moving my iTunes library from my old Windows XP Dell to my new MacBook Pro. I used my iPod video on the Dell, but now that I have a Mac, I want all my songs to be moved over there. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this. I looked at the Apple Support pages, but none of them address this particular issue. Can someone guide me on how to do transfer my library?

the ipod now showing up in my computer or wherever is probably because the ipod is not set for disk use. go to the ipod settings in itunes and fink the check box where it says "enable disk use" this should make the ipod show up. now you should be able to put the songs onto the ipod as a music file to transfer them. other methods of transfer could be an external hard drive, a travel drive, a usb cable, or the most convenient but frustrating way is to open the ipod folder in my computer... and nvm i cant remember how to do it and dont have a working ipod at the moment to find out. ill post that solution later. i will say it involves opening the folder where the music is saved on the ipod, copying them onto the computer and renaming every single file. this is convienient only because it doesnt require modification or movement of any songs to the ipod because it uses the ones on there. all the files renamed with random letters and numbers when put on the ipod so youll have to reorganize all songs

I need some help as I bought a mini mac for more storage for my music on windows 7 and greater ease of use for managing my music library.
I also have an external hard drive full of music 750GB I was hoping to transfer.
I am now considering an external hard drive as a last resort to at least rip my several 100 cds as nothing has worked to date.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm a real Apple newbie

Depending on the size of your music/video collection, an external HD is probably the best way to go.
I have nearly a Terabyte of music and videos and that simply won't fit on a Mini's 500Gb HD, so I keep it elsewhere.
Moving it is simply a matter of physically copying the files to the external HD and then pointing iTunes to the location.

i am having issues trying to copy some of my music from my itunes library to my wife's. we each have seperate accounts on the same computer(mac mini, os X). i am new to using the mac's, and have no idea of how to go about this. i have seen some stuff on using public folders, but i could not find mine, also used the sharing option under preferances, and that didnt work for me as well.... but like i said, i am new. if anyone could please help that would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I only have 1 itunes account

Copy the iTunes Music folder in Music to the other account using a external drive or the Shared Folder on the root directory.
Use Finder > Go To Folder and enter
and press Go, click on your hard drive name, then Users then Shared folder.
However the playlists and song locations pathnames are written for the other user, but that can be edited with a Text Editor and "find and replaced" to match the pathname of the other user of the iTunes.db file.
Likely the permisisons will have to be changed to that other user as well, when copied to the other User, Finder > Get Info on the folder and change the permisisons to the other user (or everyone) and click the spoky thing to "apply to enclosed items"

The iphone is not a storage/backup device. It simply mirrors the selected content fo the computer to which it is synced.

Hello, I currently have a PC on Windows Xp, I usually use iTunes for Windows to manage and buy my music for my iPod and iPhone.
I would like to buy a Mac mini to replace my Windows XP computer.
I currently stored my music managed by iTunes for Windows on a Buffalo Raid NAS and that work very well.

I have a PC and my iTunes library has 15,000ish MP3's and over 100 playlists. Even though my iTunes is located on my PC, the music is stored on an external hard drive. Im thinking of buying a Macbook. Ive spent hours upon hours preparing playlists over the years and need to know if you can transfer iTunes and the playlists? I wont make them all over and it will be a deal breaker for buying a Mac if I have to make these playlists all over. Last year someone at Apple store said they could do it for like $70. Really? You can transfer by copying the entire iTunes folder and all the files and folders it contains to the other computer. If you have an empty library on the new computer you can just copy the moved folder over the empty one and start iTunes. Alternatively, put it in another location and start iTunes with the option key held down and point it to the new library location.
A problem you may incur is your external drive. If it is formatted NTFS for use with PC you may find your Mac can read files on it but not write files to it. THe best solutiuon will be to reformat it for use with a Mac but this will entail erasing all files in the process so you will need to store them elsewhere when reformatting. You will need to name the newly formatted drive with the exact same name as the old drive. If you didn't format it to NTFS but used FAT32 formatting, that will work with a Mac too, but most PCs will format to NTFS.

I would use either Home Sharing or use an external drive to get the songs and copy them over. If they are purchased items from the iTunes Store, you can download them from looking at your purchase history.
