How do I transfer m4v file to my iPad from my iMac?

Good day,
I'm quite new to the Apple world...
I would like to know how to transfer m4v movies currently on my iMac to my iPad. Seems like I have no luck through iTune.

First make sure you've added the movies to iTunes, then follow the other instructions to sync from iTunes to iPad.
Alternatively, upload the movie to a Shared Photo Stream from your Mac, then access it that way from your iPad.  The resolution will be cut down a bit, but maybe that won't matter to you.

If it's on a SD card in your camera, you cau use the camera connection kit, either by connecting the camera or inserting the SD card.
If it's on your computer, you can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

I had the original ipad. I download a digital copy of a movie into my personal laptop however all movies are downloaded originally from my wife's Macintosh. When I plug in the ipad into my Sony laptop, it states 'all movies will be lost" if I place the movie from a different computer. How can I transfer the movie into my ipad?

Put the movie onto whatever computer you use to sync.  Move the movie into i tunes, and sync.

How can I open an excel file on my ipad from dropbox using numbers?

You are asking about Numbers for iOS in a forum dedicated to Numbers for OS X.
As most of us aren’t using this app, it would be more efficient to ask in the dedicated forum (link below).

  • How do you transfer Several files and numerous photos from one Mac to another.

I have a Mac Book Pro (late 2011) and a Mac Air (2013).   I know I can airdrop but I would be doing that for days - is there any way to transfer file from one computer to another.

If you want to transfer a large amount of files, the best way would be to use an external drive. If you do not have one, consider the option of using Target Disk mode, so you just have to get a Thunderbolt cable; this is the fastest option.
To use Target Disk mode, connect the Thunderbolt to the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. Then, start up your MacBook Pro and hold the T key while it is starting up until you see the Thunderbolt icon in the display. Now, go to the MacBook Air, open a Finder window and you will see the MacBook Pro hard drive in the sidebar, so access to them and transfer the files you want to.

  • How can I transfer a file to my iPhone from my PC?

I have an MS Excel file I need to transfer to my iPhone for work.  I know I can email it to myself, but is there another way to transfer with the USB cable or through iTunes?  Do I need to juse creat a folder for documents?  I am a former Blackberry user so any help with my iPhone is appreciated.
    Bryan

I use Dropbox most often for this purpose. It's free, works easily and doesn't require attaching the phone to the computer. I also use ReaddleDocs, which offers more options, including using iTunes for the transfer, but it is more complex and currently costs $5.

  • HT1863 How can I transfer a file of older images from my macbook pro to my new iPad.

    Hi,
I'd like to take an album of photos on my Macbook Pro and transfer them to my Ipad using iphoto. I have iphoto on each device.

You can sync photos from your Mac's iTunes to the iPad's Photos app - once they are in Photos then the iPhoto app should see them as well. To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand sidebar of your Mac's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which iPhoto albums to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page.
You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad -photos synced from a computer can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.

  • How do I transfer PDF documents to my iPad from my PC?

A few weeks ago, I was able to transfer PDF documents from my PC to my iPad, because there was a menu on the left side of the display that allowed me to do this using a simple drag and drop process.  For some reason, this menu has gone away and I do not know where it went and how to restore it.  Without this menu, I have no idea how to move PDFs from my PC to my iPad.  Any insight or help that anyone would care to provide will be greatly appreciated.   Thanks.

Forget everything that has been posted to this point for a few minutes.
When your iPad is connected to the PC with iTunes running, you should see an icon in the upper left next to 3 dots ...
It looks like a rectangle. That icon shows that you iPad is connected to the computer and that iTunes sees the device. Click on that icon and you should see your iPad name and a little picture of an iPad. Click on your iPad name in there in order to select it.
Now you should be able to go to File>Add to Library and select your pdf files. The sidebar should be visible now as well so click on Books on the left - in the sidebar - and then select the pdf files in the books window on the right that you want to sync. Then sync your iPad.

  • How  do i get my number files on my iPad from my iMac computer?

How do I now get my Number 09 files up on my ipad so the will sync in the  cloud?

If you are running OSX 10.5.7 you cannot use iCloud on your Mac since one of the requirements is that the Mac needs to be running Lion. However, if you are really running 10.5.7 - you can't sync the iPad either since the minimum for that is 10.5.8.
I will assume that your tagline is incorrect and you can at least sync the iPad with your Mac. And .... you need to have Numbers installed on the iPad so I will assume that you have that installed as well.
The text below is copied from the kb article below.
iWorks for iOS: About iTunes File Sharing
Copying Numbers files from your computer to the iPad using iOS file sharing (Title changed for Numbers)
Connect your iOS device to your computer using the included Dock Connector to USB cable.
    Open iTunes on your computer.
Select your iOS device from the Devices section on the left side of iTunes.
Click the Apps tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
Note: If you do not see the File Sharing section shown in the image below, your iOS device does not have any apps installed which support File Sharing, such as the iWork for iOS apps.
Under the File Sharing section, you should find a list of apps currently installed on your iOS device that use File Sharing (such as Keynote, Pages, and Numbers for iOS). Select an app to view a list of the files associated with that app on your iOS device.
You can drag and drop files into the Documents list to send them to the app on your iOS device. You can also click the Add button, locate the file or files you want to send from your computer, and then click the Choose. The files you select will be copied to the app on your iOS device immediately. Select only files that are supported by the iOS app. Once you’ve copied your file(s) to your iOS device from within iTunes, open Keynote, Pages, or Numbers on your iOS device.
Navigate to the Document Manager screen
Tap the plus icon in the upper-left corner, and then tap the iTunes icon:
This will open the "Copy from iTunes" window:
Tap the file you want to copy and the document will automatically be added to the Document Manager and open.
(Any compatible file that you’ve copied to your iOS device using File Sharing will be listed in the "Copy from iTunes" window. If the file is not listed, confirm its file type is compatible with the iWork app.)
Back to my own words now.... You can sync these documents to iCloud using your iPad as long as you set it up in the iCloud settings. If you make changes to this document on the iPad - it will not sync back to the Mac via iCloud. You can sign into your icloud.com account on the Mac - click on iWorks - click on Numbers - select the file - and download the file to the Mac to work on it again - but you can't upload it again unless you are running 10.7.2 on the Mac. You will have to get the file back onto the iPad via file sharing as described above.

  • How can I transfer/copy my entire iPhoto library from one iMac to another iMac whilst keeping all the folders and subfolders intact?

We recently purchased a new iMac for our office (8 GB memory, 2.7 processor, version 10.9.2) and we need to copy the iPhoto library from our other iMac (version 10.9.4) onto the new one. The photos are essential for our work and there are around 53,000 of them all organised into folders and subfolders and then the photos are manually ordered within the albums.
We have tried connecting the computers but when we tried to access the iPhoto library on the new iMac it says that iPhoto is locked and we do not have permission to view it. We updated iPhoto on the old iMac as we thought that might be the problem but the message still appears. We've been advised to use an external hard drive but we're worried that will corrupt the organisation of the library. We have also been told not to do it over AirDrop / the Server because of the sheer quantity of photos.
Any advice on how to safely do this would be much appreciated.

No idea exactly what you did
    if you followed the instructions
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
then you have exactly the same thin on your new system that you had on the old
If you do something differently - like import the library instead of simply opening it - then it will not work
did you dimply drag the iPhoto library from the pictures folder of the old machine to the pictures folder of the new machine and then launch iPhoto on the new machine?
and to help it is important to use word correctly since that is the only communications method we have - in iPhoto folders do not contain photos - you view photos in events and you can organize them using albums (which view photos) and folders (which hold either albums or other folders - folders never have photos in them) so your description of the problem is not at all clear since it uses folders incorretly

  • How do I transfer a rented movie on iTunes from my iMac to my MacBook Pro?

I got on my iMac today and rented a few movies thinking that iTunes would send them out to all my devices automatically. I have all the check boxes checked on all devices to download automatically. There are instructions for transfering from computer to a device but not how to do it from one computer to another.

    Hi Claire,
Rentals can be downloaded from a computer to a device, but not to another computer. Here is the Apple Support article on Movie Rentals FYI:

  • HT1692 HOW  CAN I TRANSFER MY CONTACTS TO MY IPAD FROM MY PHONE?

I would like to have the same contacts I have in my phone in the Ipad. I have a Samsung Note cel phone. How can I do this. I actually did not register my Ipad iin a cellular plan eventhough my Ipad has the celullar option.

if you can get the contacts onto your computer you can sync htem to your iPad.
The tedious but works way can be to mail them to yourself from your phone, then open that mail on your iPad and save it from there.

  • How can I transfer "Pages" files  from my IPad to my Mac?

How can I transfer "Pages " files from my IPad to my IMac, I cannot use ICloud because I have Mountain Lion installed on the IMac?

Actually, you can use iCloud and the way that you so it is to log into iCloud.com on the Mac (use Safari for best results) click on the Pages icon and then drag the Pages files into the browser window. It works the other way around as well. Log into iCloud.com on the Mac and download the files from Pages (that you created on the iPad) in iCloud onto your Mac. You can click on the file in the documents window and select it to Download by clicking on the Gear icon or right click upon the file and select download.
The files will then sync to the Pages app on the iPad - assuming hat you have use iCloud tuned on in Settings>Pages>Use iCloud>On. I have an iMac running Tiger 10.4.11 that I can still move Pages/Word files back and forth Iike this.
Also, File Sharing with iTunes is a great way to move the files back and forth.
