Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Find the music button above the picture of the iPod and click it
From there you can select which music you want on the iPod by ticking the boxes by the playlists, genres etc

You can't send or receive music files on your iPhones.
You can connect the iPhone to your PC or Mac, after that you have to open iTunes and then Sync the device with your Music Library.
