How can I transfer music from my old iphone 4 to the new iphone 5S without having the music on the old phone synced to my laptop (e.g. my itunes library on the laptop is empty) ?
I tried the "Transfer Purchases" option - however this only worked for apps - not sure if I'm missing some sort of setting.
I do not want to use iCloud as I do not have enough space for my music.
    Thanks!

You cannot. The music must be in the iTunes library first. See these User Tips:

  • How do I transfer music from my iPod to my computer which was not purchased on iTunes?

I just downloaded iTunes Match to my MacBook Air. Now, how do I transfer music from my iPod to my Mac which I did not purchase on iTunes? When I downloaded iTunes Match, it did its thing, but none of the music that I burned from CDs showed up on my Mac. Is there something else I should do? (I still have my old computer with my entire iTunes library on it, but I haven't used in in a while. Should I do something with that, as well?)
    Thanks!

    1) I did indeed specify what model my iPod is, as you can plainly see. I even specified which iOS I’m operating on.
True. My mistake. I didn't see it.

I'm actually currently serving in the Peace Corps in the Eastern European country of the Republic of Georgia, so I'm not always able to get back to posts as quickly as I would like. So I'm glad you were able to get it sorted out by searching the support communities. But as I tell my students (who are learning English as a second language) pronouncing and using words correctly is important to them being understood by native English speakers. The same goes for technology terms. If the correct terms aren't used (for example "import" and "rip") then misunderstandings can occur and it can take longer to get your problem solved.

  • How do I transfer music from an old ipod shuffle to a new one?

How do I transfer music from my old not working ipod shuffle to a new one?

If the music on this nonworking Shuffle is not in your iTunes library or in a backup somewhere, I'm afraid you are out of luck. You'll need to redownload any past purchases you had on there via iCloud. It shouldn't cost you anything.  See here for more details.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For all other non-iTunes purchases content, you'll need to redownload/re-rip it to iTunes again from its original source such as another MP3 store or from CD.
If the music that was on the older Shuffle is still in your iTunes library, simply configure it to sync to the new Shuffle.

I have and old shuffle ipod and a friend has asked if i can put my albums on his nano
That is illegal music sharing, so you won't get any help on Apple's official forums.
Also they are my albums not music from itunes
Irrelevant. Under copyright law, you do have the right to give a copy of these albums to anyone.

  • How do I transfer music from my husbands apple id into my new apple id?

    HI.
    My question is:
How do I tranfer music that I've purchased on my husbands apple account onto My new Apple id account?
For a long time we shared the same apple id, but it caused alot of headaches with merging contacts and so on....
So I decided to create my own apple id!
I Synced my Macbook Pro, Iphone5 and Ipad to MY new apple id and set up icloud as well for all 3 devices.
The music has not yet erased...(I have no idea how I manged that!) but I'm afraid that when I make a purchase on MY new account
and sync it to the other devices all the previously purchased music on HIS account/apple id will be deleted from MY devices.... So, I was trying to figure out if theres a way to bring those purchases into my account?
Hope my explanation makes sense :/
Thanks a million for your help!
    Nadia

You don't. Items purchased with one Apple ID are not transferable, nor can IDs be merged. However, since all music in the iTunes store has been DRM-free since late 2009 you can simply add his music to your library.
If your iPhone is synced iTunes on another computer, though, it will have to be erased to sync to a new library as iOS devices can only be synced to one iTunes library at a time.
Incidentally, you've posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question is not really related to. In the future you'll get much better support responses by posting to the appropriate forum.

  • How do I transfer music from my old iPod classic to my new computer with a blank iTunes library?

I have over 700 songs on my iPod classic, a movie, and a few shows.
My old computer, which is totally fried, has my whole library.
My new computer has a blank library.
I want to transfer everything from my iPod classic, or even better, my iTunes library, to my new computers iTunes library.
How do I go about doing this both manually and with some sort of automatic application assistence (i.e., something I can download to do this for me)?
    Thank you so much.

My Mac Mini does nothing when I plugged my Zen in by usb. My old Windows computers would automatically detect new hardware and lead me through the process.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
