How do I transfer my applications and data from one iPad to a new one?

I have recently purchased an iPad2. I want to transfer everything I have on my original iPad to my new iPad then wipe the original clean. How do I accomplish is?

You can restore the new iPad from a backup. You can also sync to transfer all apps, media, photos from your iTunes library to the new iPad.
Read this article to restore from a backup. Make sure that you backup your old iPad before you restore the new one to the backup.

Erase all content and settings
If you don't have access to iTunes, you can use the following steps to completely erase your device:
Tap Settings.
Tap General.
Tap Reset.
Tap Erase All Content and Settings.

How can I transfer some books and music from one ipad to another without having to sync and erase the lot?

I am trying to transfer some music and books from my ipad to my mothers ipad. I am using a laptop that I have had to install itunes onto. When I sselect the music I want to put onto my mothers ipad I get the message 'are you sure want to sync this ipad to this computer as it will erase all date on the ipad and replace it with this'...well something to that effect anyway.
When I plug my ipad into it it also states that syncing will erase all data and replace it with what is on itunes as my ipad is linked to another computer (im in Hobart and my usual computer is in brisbane)
Is there a simple way for me to add music and books on a usb stick to mothers ipad without having to lose everything taht she currently has on there?

Backup with this User Tip, restore the library to the new computer using the same tool, keep the backup up-to-date in future. Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer need to access protected content on it.
As to your issues with compilations albums select all the tracks, set the Album Artist to Various Artists and on the options tab set Part of a compilation to Yes. See Grouping tracks into albums for details.

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the to computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. You can also use your iPod as a hard drive and move the folder with it though that would be considerably slower than computer to computer. Here are a few links that may help you out:

How do you transfer both songs AND playlists from an iPOD to a new laptop? I have read a few posts about this, but none seem to talk about transfering the PLAYLISTS. I also have a similar problem. Lap top crashed - new lap top have VISTA (I know...).
Using my ipod as a external hard drive - I have loaded all the tunes onto a new folder on the desk top. I then loaded all the files into the itunes library and have upload them on the new itunes on the new lap top - all good. They are now on the new itunes library and my ipod
However NONE of my purchased items have been transfered. Issue is that the files on the Desktop folder will not show which are purchesed and which are imported from CD - how do I find and then transfer my purchased songs...
