Hi! I bought an IPhone 5 and unfortunately it wont back to my older version of itunes. Luckily I have an old Iphone 3 that's compatible with my itunes and I backed up my contacts and such about a month ago. However, the number for this iphone 3 isnt the number or phone I had when I created the backup from a month ago. I just want access to any pictures I had up until a month ago. How do I put that back up onto my old iphone 3 just so I have my pictures and contacts. The backup is there ( I checked the general preferences--> devices), I just dont have the 4G phone that had all the pictures and contacts on it ( it finally ate the dirt and just stopped charging) Thanks so much for all your help! Yes. However, the backup file does not necessarily contain everything on your device (music, some purchases, some photos) so you want to make sure all items are backed up and transferred for safekeeping first.

This can be done via iTunes, iCloud. What other type of phone are you trying to transfer them too? There are other 3rd party programs that can do it. An app called MCBackup will backup your contacts to a text/vcard file and you can email it to another device.

There are two solutions . . . I run my iTunes Library off an external hard drive. However, this may limit the portability of your library. Though a La Cie Rugged external would help with that (I love mine, though I use it for diagnostics and repair, not for iTunes--but it does get around).
