How do I transfer my iPhoto library from my macbook to my macbook air?

I've tried to save them onto my passport for mac but i can't open the iPhoto on the passport. It says, "You can’t open the application “iPhoto” because it is in a Time Machine backup." Please help.

Put the iPhoto library(not the application) onto the drive outside of the Time Machine backup, or transfer it through a network or Target Disk mode if applicable. The library is in the Pictures folder of your home folder by default.

How do I transfer my iPhoto library from iPhone to my computer?
My photos that I lost from my computer at the weekend are still on my iphone but I don't want to lose them and would like them back on my computer.
    Help very welcome.

The photo sync is one way only - computer to iphone.
Copy them from your backup copy of your computer.
When pics are synced to iphone they are reduced in size/quality.  You can e-mail them to yourself, but they will never be of the original quality.

how can i transfer my book library from my iPhone to my macbook?

If the books are in the iBooks app on your phone then you should be able to copy them over to your computer's iTunes (and then to the iBooks app if you have Mavericks on your Mac) via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases

  • How can I transfer my iphoto library from a Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) harddrive to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) hard drive?

    Community,
Every time I try to transfer my iphoto library from a Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) harddrive to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) hard drive, I receive the attached message: "You can't copy 'iPhoto Library' because it has the same name as another ideon on the destination volume, and that volume doesn't destinguish between upper- and lowercase letters in filenames."
My theory is, if I am able to unpackage my iphoto library, I can transfer each folder one at a time so that I can trouble shoot any "duplicates." Will this work?
Let's say that works. How can I repackage the library so iphoto recognizes it?
    Is there a better way?
    Thank you,
    Jonathan

Can we assume that I don't have any naming conflicts? Clearly there are or else I wouldn't get the error I'm getting.
The error doesn't mean you have name conflicts. It means that the Finder won't take the chance that you might have them.
You're suggesting that all I would need to do would be to use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer the files from the case-sensative harddrive to my Extended Journaled harddrive?
Yes. But I would just use the built-in rsync shell command. First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press the space bar:
    rsync -aE --delete
Now drag the iPhoto library you want to copy into the window. You should have something like this:
    rsync -aE --delete /Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library
Drag the Pictures folder on the destination volume into the window. Now you have this (line will wrap on the page):
rsync -aE --delete /Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library /Volumes/something/Users/you/Pictures
Press return. The copying operation will start. When it finishes, you'll see a new dollar-sign ("$") prompt below what you entered. If there were no errors, you're done.

  • How do I transfer my iphoto library from my macbook to my imac easily?

How do I easily transfer my entire iphoto library from my macbook to my iMac?  My iMac is not new and I know I should have done this on day 1!  I also want to move my itunes.  If possible I want to avoid moving in on my external.
    Thanks

Details are critical to getting valid advice
The answer to your question is very simple. Connect the two macs together however you wish or use an external hard drive that is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library from to old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac
However your comment about the iMac being old raises the question of a critical detail you left out. Do you have an existing library on your iMac that you want to keep?  If so post back for different instructions

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library from my iBook to my MacBook Pro?

I have just bought a 17" MacBook Pro nd want to transfer my iTunes library from my iBook. (lots and lots of songs) I did not have access to my iBook when I first authorised the MB and later tried to use the migration assistant in Tiger.
Although it seemed to work I could not find my iTunes library and it did not transfer. All the settings on the iBook should have allowed me to do this.
Any suggestions, other than start from scratch installing the track?
    Thanks
    TT

You can link the two laptops together with either Airport or Ethernet and get really fast transfer speeds without wasting time transferring everything to an external HD first. After the physical connection, set it up in the Network pane of your System Preferences. Alternately, you can connect the two macs with a firewire cable. Then restart the old Mac while holding down the "t" key. This will start your old Mac in firewire target mode, basically turning it into a harddrive which will mount on the desktop of your new Mac.
You might be able to drag and drop your iTunes folder from the Home>Music directory of your old Mac into the Home>Music directory. Otherwise, you can drag the folder to the desktop of the new machine and then drag and drop each individual folder into the iTunes window of the new Mac to import the music. Be sure to deauthorize (from the iTunes Music Store) your old iBook before selling it.

My iPhoto library is on older external drive that I no longer trust.  How do I transfer it to a new drive?  If both are hooked up to iMac can I simply copy from one to the other?

Be sure the new drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the library intact from the old to the new drive - depress the oprion key and launch iPHoto and use the select library window to select the new location as the default - be sure to fully test the new location before trashing the old one if you plan to

  • How do I transfer an iphoto library from a guest login to either another login or a thumb drive?

I am letting a friend use my computer as a surrogate for the time being to backup her phone and photos. I had never used the guest login before and didn't realize that all the files would be lost at logout. I haven't logged out yet but I need help trying to get the iphoto library onto a thumb drive. If at all possible I would like to get the backup from itunes as well.
I have already copied all of the photos out of iphoto but that doesn't save the time, date and location of them. I cannot access the folder to move the iphoto library because of it being in the guest login. I have already deleted the photos off of the phone so that is a no go.
I've been trying to search for an answer but haven't had any luck yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I transfer my iTunes library from Windows to my new Macbook and retain my iPhone contacts?

    Hello,
I am running iTunes on Windows Vista with music, videos. This is paired to a 3GS which has many contacts on it. The iPhone is regularly synced and backed up.
I have just bought a new MacBook Pro and want to transfer my entire iTunes system over. I see that I can transfer the music library over with Home Sharing. I want to ensure, however, that when I sync my iPhone with my NEW MacBook Pro, that all the data is retained. I am most concerned with losing the contacts on the phone.
Does anybody know how I can do this? I just want to wholesale copy the iTunes environment onto my new machine, I guess.
    Thanks,

Contacts (and Calendars) are not part of iTunes. iTunes is simply used to sync them from whatever apps you are using.
This is for Mac OS 10.4 but it will work for whatever you are now running.

  • How do I restore an iPhoto library from Time Capsule

My iMac was stolen. I have a MacBook Air running Yosemite version 10.10.2. The iPhoto Library was not on the MacBook. How do I restore my iPhoto Library from a Time Machine backup on my Time Capsule onto my MacBook? I am using iPhoto version 9.6.1.
    Two complications:
    1. I have several hundred photos from a different iPhoto library on my MacBook.
    2. I think the iPhoto library that is hopefully on my Time Capsule is too big to fit on my MacBook. I have 50 GB free space remaining on a 256 GB SSD.
    Thank you.

If the library to be restored is too big for your boot drive you'll need to get an external HD, formatted OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored, and restore the iPhoto Library to it according to the instructions in the following screenshot:
With the restored library up and running you can use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to merge the Macbook library into the restored library on the EHD.  A possible candidate for the EHD is the  OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro USB 3.0 / FireWire 800.  It lends itself nicely for portable use.
Once you are satisfied that the merge was successful you can delete the Macbook library from the Pictures folder.

This screenshot shows how to restore a library from Time Machine.
There is NO importing necessary.  One should never import one library into another.  Just restore it to your Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.
