  • How do I transfer my ipod music to my computer library

I am new to itunes and ipods.  I have never really been a fan but I want to be.  I purchased an i pod from a friend which had some music on it and also put some music on it from my computer.  No problem with that. I then deleted my library on my computer and only have the songs on my ipod.  I would now like to transfer those songs back to my library.  If i press the sync button in itunes it says it will erase all files on my ipod and put my new library songs on it.  Is there any way to transfer my ipod music to the library?

iTunes only allows you to transfer music purchased from iTunes because of copyright laws. You would need to search the internet for a 3rd party app that allows you to transfer the non-purchased music or get them from the original source, i.e. CD, other music site, etc.

  • HT1473 My daughter has a new computer, how do we transfer her ipod music to the new laptop.  Sync seems to want to delete it all

Sorry the question was in the title.  A new laptop for christmas...I thought by downloading itunes to it when I plugged in the ipod it would just download the music to het itunes library as they are on the same apple id.  does not seem to be the case....is there an easy way or not?  It is a compaq CQ58 and has all the itunes up to date.

Connect the new iPod to the computer she used to sync with the old iPod. The restore from backup. The apps and music have to be in the iTunes library to be restored to the iPod.
For how to restore see the restoring topic of:
    iOS: How to back up
If the computer does not have her iTunes purchases they can be redownloaded by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • How can i transfer my ipod music to a new pc

My PC crashed and i lost my itunes.  Most of it was recorded music of my CD;s but some had been downloaded.  I downloaded a new version of itunes onto my new laptop but when i try to psync it with my ipod it tells me it will wipe what is on there.  I get the reason for this, otherwise i could just upload all my music to someone elses pc but is there a way around this?  I also seem to have lost my downloaded music. Thanks, any help greatly appreciated

How do I transfer my iPod content to a new computer?

The link that brought you here tells you how, as far as Apple has designed it.
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Computer Crashed, Can I transfer my iPod music to the new iTunes?

My computer suddenly crashed before I could back up my iTunes library. Can I transfer my iPod music to the iTunes on my new computer?

There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Edit>Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.

  • How could I transfer all purchased music to a new computer

I need to transfer all purchased music to a new computer.. Can I download them again or sync to the new computer??

Anything you want to transfer, just copy it to a USB flash drive or external hard drive, and from there to the new computer.
If you want to keep your iTunes library intact, as far as playcounts, playlists, etc, a few extra steps are required. First, on the old machine, run Library > Consolidate. Then copy the entire iTunes folder to the external device, and from there to the new machine.

  • How do I transfer my ipod data onto my new itunes libary?

My PC recently got wiped clean of all memory due to a system failure and I lost all my songs from my itunes libary but they remained on my ipod. When I plug my ipod into my PC it comes up with the message that gives me the option to either: erase and sync my ipod, transfer purchases or cancel. I tried to transfer my purchases but only half of them transfered. To save time and money I would be grateful if someone could tell me how to transfer my songs from my ipod onto my new itunes libary.

    Hey there,
Ignore the message that comes up in iTunes. Hit "Cancel"
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
There is a very direct method, which I personally prefer, but there are also numerous third party applications, which will help you accomplish the task as well. The link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method as well as a few third party applications if you choose to go that route instead.
Hope this helps. Make sure if you have iTunes purchases, to authorize your new library at some point.
