How do I transfer my music from my ipod to my laptop? I have Windows 7 and using the newest itunes update. These are all songs that were burned from cd's and such and weren't actually purchased through itunes.

I try to play a song but an exclamation point shows up saying the file could not be located. They play on my 1st gen video ipod just fine. It does that with more than half of my songs. Originally I had my songs in an external hard drive but the HDD fell once and since then it hasn't been connecting to my laptop. Now the songs that I used to have back then won't play on my itunes unless u plug in the HDD which my laptop won't detect. Is there a way for me to transfer my working songs to my itunes from my ipod so they'll all play again? im getting ready to buy and ipod touch but it's not good if most of my songs don't transfer because of the "missing files".

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
You buy one and only one download. It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.

Apparently, security programs like Macafee and Norton view Itunes updates as new programs and block then from access. If you add Itunes to the list of exemptions, it solves the problem.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

iTunes should sync your entire library, and not just songs purchased from the iTunes Store, as mentioned in this article:

By default, iTunes automatically syncs your entire iTunes library whenever you connect your device to your computer. On each subsequent sync, iTunes will automatically add any new music or videos to the device and remove any items that are no longer in your iTunes Library.

I just highlighted and changed the artist name of about a hundred songs in my library. This was an accident and I want to change them back. I can't "undo" or search for artists' names online. Any way to fix this? They are still highlighted.

These were all songs I had ripped from old CDs, lot of which, I no longer have. I can't remember that artists' names for all these songs. They are all "oldies" from the fifties and I just accidentally changed the artist for all them to Fats Domino. I'd had them all highlighted because I had done a batch change of their genre to Oldies. I couldn't tell that they were all still highlighted after that change because I could only see two of the songs at the time that I changed the artist name. Is there any possible way to undo this? All the tracks are still highlighted from the naming operation. I can't search for the artists' names online because I didn't purchase them from iTunes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I found one other way to do it. I just deleted them all out of my iTunes library. Now I can re-import them from Window's My Music file with the original artists' names intact.

iTunes is for the PC, not your phone. Get on your computer, go to Apple, download the latest iTunes, update and then plug your phone in.
All will be good.

HT1473 I have a ton of songs in my itunes that were burned from cd. My computer died so I'm using another computer. The new computer will show all my purchased songs from Itunes, but none of the ones I previously burned from cd

I burned a ton of songs from CD to Itunes and they showed up fine in my library. I bought a new Ipod at the same time my computer died so I'm now using a totally different computer. I logged in to my Itunes from this computer and can see every song purchased from Itunes. What I no longer see are the ones burned from cd.

Does this iPod have the contents of your library? If so see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Otherwise, depending on the nature of the failure, you may be able to extract the hard drive and recover the media from it. Or you will have to rip your CDs again.
If you'd like access to all your media on any device/computer in future you might consider purchasing a subscription to iTunes Match though personally I just maintain my own backup of my library.

This is how I'd do it!
1st find a tape player with an out of some sort. 2nd imic from Griffen (usb) 3rd you'll need some software like audacity(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) toget that music on your hard drive, then you can remove odd sounds (pops,fuzz, any thing thats not music)with and little time you'll have Grandpa's music on your ipod. not easy but possiable!
