How do I transfer my stuff to a new mac?

I'm going to get a new mac for me and give my mum my old one! How do I set up my new one to have all my itunes and files etc and then re set my old one for my mum to use from scratch?
Sorry if this is an obvious query but I got a mac because they are easy to use and I'm hoping some helpful person out there will help me out!
Thank you in advance

Intel Macs shipped with 10.4.4 or later. Quark 6.5 is incompatible with them
as Versiontracker says it works with 10.3 and 10.2 only. Quark 6.5.2 on the other hand is at least PowerPC compatible with 10.4, so it may work with Intel Macs under Rosetta:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/31408
Adobe InCopy 3.0.1 was part of CS 1, Adobe InCopy 4.0.1 was CS2.
Looking up InCopy 3.0.1, it also says that it only works with 10.2 or 10.3.
Also Adobe's CS 2 doesn't work with Version Cue on Intel Macs. You need to remove this before running Adobe CS 2 on Intel Macs. Looks like CS 1 is not compatible with Intel Macs.
Please put forward future inquiries regarding 10.4 software compatibility to new topics posted in the Using Tiger forum:

Transfer purchases from the old iPad into iTunes, backup the iPad with iTunes and sync one last time.

  • How do you transfer your stuff to a new computer?

so i want to sync my tv shows and stuff to my new laptop. i tried "transfer purchases", but it just doesn't do anything. my friend told me to click on manage manually or something so i did but i still don't get it. help?

Are you trying to transfer from an iPod? Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • How do you transfer Safari bookmarks to a new MAC?

I have a G4 Tower (Jaguar) but just got an iMac G5 (that will be Tiger). How do I transfer my Safari bookmarks to my new MAC? THX, Barb

Your new iMac has a feature as part of the setup to migrate all your existing user settings (and applications if you wish) from your G4 (you connect the two systems using a Firewire cable), so that's probably the easiest way.
If you just want the Safari bookmarks, though, and nothing else, they're in your users' Library -> Safari folder, the file names Bookmarks.plist. Just copy that file to the same folder on your new iMac.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I transfer logic 9 to my new Mac Mini?

I purchased a new 2011 Mac Mini and I need to Install Logic studio from a Mac Book Pro that has the logic app on it, or from the Logic Install Disc's. The Mini does not have a CD/DVD Drive, so what would be the best way to go about getting logic on my new Mini ?

Purchase an Apple DVD SuperDrive.  Time and time again you will find that you need it.    Many recommend that you create a DVD master install disk.
This is an area where I would not try to save money.

  • How can I transfer Photoshop CS3 to my new computer

How can I transfer Photoshop CS3 to my new computer. I cannot find the original documentation with serial number etc

For downloads of CS3 see THIS thread.
    For your serial number, if Photoshop is still running on your old machine;
Start Photoshop. Goto Help > System Info. Buried in amongst all the stuff in there will be your serial number. Read through it carefully.
If Photoshop is not installed / running on your old machine, then you are indeed pretty much hosed.
This is always assuming software that old will run successfully on a new machine, of course.

  • I dropped my macbook pro and the screen is broken can i still use it with an external monitor? Or can I or how do I transfer hard drive files to my mac mini?

I dropped my 17" macbook pro and the screen is broken. Can I still use it with an external monitor? When I plugged it into a monitor I had used it with before, I'm not able to see anything on the macbook screen to control it. It came on but I just got the blue screen with nothing else after typing in my password. (Didn't see the password form just assumed it was there somewhere and it did go from space to blue screen but no desktop icons, files, dock strip at top or anything else, just blank blue screen) so I can't access the system preferences.
Or can I / or how do I, transfer hard drive files to my mac mini? If not salvageable as is can I pull out the hard drive and make it an external harddrive? In otherwords is anything salvageable? It seems it's coming on I just can't access anything. BTW I was told it would cost aprox $1000 to replace the screen! I paid almost $4000 for this thing and it was running great - makes me sick to lose it!

I'd like to promise you that everything will be fine if you just get the monitor going - but it's hard to know what the hardware damage might be. It might be the monitor, or the damage might be greater.
Your best solution would be visit your local Apple Store and let them know what your situation is. They have access to diagnostics you don't, and they might be able to the best way to save your data and keep you computing. It's still not covered, but they can tell you what your current options are.
Um, you might consider investing in a backup drive.
And there other repair options, too. Powerbook Medic http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/pages.php?pageid=67 offers reliable repairs, and quotes prices well under Apple's.

  • How do I transfer my account To my new ipad?

I have a new Mini/Retina that I want to replace my iPad 2 with.  I want to use my same old AT&T account for cellular/data connection, so how do I transfer my account To my new iPad?
The guy at the AT&T store (where I bought the Mini) said I would have to start it as a backup from the old machine, and I might have to switch SIM cards (believable), but there must be more to it than that.  At what point shoud I shut off the old iPad account?  If I do it at the wrong time it seems like there should be a conflict (perhaps the SIM card).  Is there a procedure posted anywhere?  (He also gave me a 1-800 number to call for help - so I suspect I'll need it.  But you guys are so good, I'll start here.)
    TIA

If your iPad 2 has a newer iOS version than your new iPad Air then you'll need to update the iPad Air to newest iOS before you can restore it from the iPad 2's backup. Its conceivable that being in the store the new iPad air does not have the most recent iOS installed.
Anyway as to the AT&T service. you should not have to anything on the old iPad.
Simply remove the sim card, go to your AT&T store and ask for a new sim that fits your new iPad with your current service on it. Then simply insert the new sim card into the new iPad.  In the process of setting up the new sim card, the old one will be deactivated by AT&T.
Without a sim card the old iPad will have no cell service.

how do I transfer saved email to my new icloud account?

When you migrate a MobileMe account to iCloud your email is transferred to the iCloud server, including all folders on the server.
However your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? (If not please amend it to prevent confusion.) Snow Leopard is not compliant with iCloud but you can set Mail up manually to access your iCloud email. Please see this page:

How do I transfer photos in iPhoto from my Mac Book to my iMac?

Depends on exactly what you want to transfer:
The Original files: Export from iPhoto on the MacBook (File -> Export, set the kind to Original) and copy the files to the iMac. Then import to the Library on the iMac
The Edited files: Export from iPhoto on the MacBook (File -> Export, set the kind to Jpeg or tiff, note the options for adding metadata to the export) and copy the files to the iMac. Then import to the Library on the iMac
Both and all the Metadata: Link the two Macs together and use  iPhoto Library Manager
