  • How can I transfer my windows itunes library to external disc and then import to my Mac so that I can synch my ipad

What is the process for transferring my itunes library from my windows machine to my Mac via external drive so that I can start to synchronize my ipad without losing the existing music on it?

Assuming your media folder hasn't been split out to a new location you need to copy the entire iTunes folder from the <User's Music> folder on one machine into <User's Music> on the other. This might be easier to do over a network, although having a backup on a drive is a good move.

assuming all your media files are in the default location, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music to the USB stick.

  • How can i transfer my current itunes library to my new 3GS?

    Hey;
i would be grateful if anyone could help me transfer my current itunes library synced with my 1st gen Touch to my new (ordered) 16gb 3GS?
this probably seems like a stupid question but i am hardly an itunes expert!
    thank-you...

If you don't switch your computer, just connect your phone and sync with itunes like you did with your old iphone. Your music, apps and other media content should be present in itunes.
If you bought some media using your phone, transfer your purchases before. Right click on your phone in the device list and choose transfer purchases.

  • How do you transfer an old iTunes Library to a new one?

I just got a new MacBook for Christmas and I'm trying to sync my old iTunes Library from my PC to the new iTunes on my MacBook. I've tried the Home Sharing and I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong or if it's just not working...if someone could give me a step-by-step that works, that'd be great.
**I already have the songs I've purchased from iTunes in the new library, I just need the songs I've colleced from CDs and other various sources. And since I have the MacBook with Retina Display, there's no disc drive, so that's another problem I'm facing.***
    Thank you!

  • How can I transfer apps from iTunes library from one computer to another?

I have been unsuccessful in transferring my music over to my new MacBook from my PC Windows Vista. I even subscribed to MobileMe, but it wouldn't work! So, I have decided to take the time to copy all my music to CDs & do it that way, but how am I going to transfer my apps? If I sync my iPhone with my iTunes library on my MacBook once I have transferred the songs, won't the apps be erased on my phone? Is there a way using MobileMe I could do so? Please please please help.

Do you have access to an external hard drive that you were using for your computer's backup with your PC which has enough storage capacity for your entire iTunes library?
If so, using the external hard drive would be a good way to do this. You would transfer your iTunes named folder in your My Music folder on your PC followed by transferring the iTunes named folder from the external hard drive to the Music folder on your Mac - with iTunes quit when doing so. This will transfer all music, videos, 3rd party apps, playlists, etc. from your PC to your Mac.
If most of your iTunes library includes music purchased from the iTunes store, iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new MacBook with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If all 3rd party apps do not transfer from your iPhone to your iTunes library on your Mac, you can re-download purchased apps with iTunes on your MacBook and you won't be charged again as long as you use the same iTunes account that was used to purchase the 3rd party apps.

  • How can I transfer my whole iTunes library from a PC to another without losing any information?

Hi, I have a very large iTunes library which is the result of so many years of listening to music. Although my computer is pretty old and slow and I would like to buy me another one. However, I cannot risk losing all the playcounts, ratings and information that I've been adding through all these years and the "Home Sharing" feature doesn't keep it (more specifically, erases all the ratings and playcounts). So, I would appreciate any advice on how could you do it.
I've read that if you click on "Export library" and then modify it with a text editor changing the location of the main folders it would be a way, but as I said my computer is pretty old and ran out of memory a couple of years ago, and I have like thousands of songs that with this system I should change it manually one by one, and that would take me weeks to do it. There has to be an easier way!
    Thank you in advance!

  • HT201269 How can I transfer my old iTunes library to a new computer?

I just got a MacBook Pro and I'd like to be able to access the iTunes library from my old computer on it. I've tried Home Sharing but it doesn't allow me to transfer my old library to my new computer, it just allows me to listen to the songs from it. I'd like to be able to sync my iPhone with my current computer without the "Erase and Sync" message popping up. I've authorized my new computer to access my iPhone and I don't understand why I'm not allowed to transfer my old library to my new computer.

Have you tried the Migration Assistant that came with your new MBP?

  • How to best transfer a rented iTunes movie to your Apple TV 3

    Hi,
My parents recently purchased the newest version of the Apple TV. Unfortauntely, it's set up on their downstairs TV on the other end of a two floor house, with the modem / router very far away from it. For this reason I believe, they have terribly long download times whenever they purchase something. My Mom, for instance, purchased season 2 of 'Downtown Abbey' and it took over a day to download. Last night they tried to rent 'Contrband' and they were told they had a 5 hour wait.
I've read that they can purchase and rent movies from their iTunes (which is upstairs in the same office with the router), so it would download much quicker. But the way Apple says to get this on the Apple TV, is to actually plug that device in (how would I plug in an HDMI device to my mom's HDMI-less computer?) and move the rented movie over. This documentation seems vague and sort of wrong. That would work for a device like an iPad or an iPhone, but not an Apple TV.
Being that the Apple TV is on the WiFi and that she's logged into her iTunes account on both devices, shouldn't the Apple TV just read what's rented / purchased on her iTunes and then make it available for her downstairs?  She's not willing to test this theory out yet, because they're being sort of stubborn and are just sticking to Netflix Instant. So before I make her Rent something from her iTunes that she then has no way to get onto her Apple TV, is there a specific way to do this correctly?
Would having her enable the Cloud sort this problem? I don't even know if Rented HD movies go in the Cloud.
    Thanks.

Movies rented in iTunes are not available in iCloud.
Enable Home Sharing on AppleTV (under Computers icon) and in iTunes.
Your itunes library should then list under Computers.
When a rental movie has fully downloaded to iTunes you will see a new Rentals row in the selected itunes library media categories along with Music, TV Shows etc available in the iTunes library.
The movie must fully download to iTunes, the computer and itunes must be running.
The question is, will this actually speed anything up?  Easiest thing to do is try it and see.
Many movies are not available in HD in iTunes to rent/buy so an SD download will be quicker but you can tell AppleTV to buy/rent in SD under Settings.
The main benefit will be once a rental is downloaded it won't have to restart downloading if you don't watch and use AppleTV for something else, or start and then come back to a movie.
If the router <--> AppleTV wifi connection is rate limiting for internet streaming rather than the internet connection speed, nothing will have changed as itunes still has to get the same quality rental (SD, 720pHD, 1080pHD) stream from the router to the AppleTV.
SD needs 2.5Mbps, 720p 6 Mbps, 1080p 8 Mbps or so to stream near instantly.
Go to speedtest.net on their computer and test actual download speeds as theit internet speed may be rate limiting, in which case renting in iTunes might be a good idea or renting in SD.

  • How to move my external HD iTunes library to my new Mac?

Hi, sorry for a noob question.
I have an older Mac and it's iTunes library location is point to an external HD, now I got a new Mac and I would like to use the same external HD for my iTunes library, so basically the contents in the external HD doesn't need to be move, is there an easy way to have my new Mac recognize my old library? I did temporary try to move my external HD to my new Mac and use the "Choose Library" option on iTunes but it show me an error message "The iTunes library file could not be found in the folder".
    Thanks in advance!

I was able to figure this out. I just copied the iTunes folder from the old mac to the new one and problem solved.

  • How do i get my hole itunes library to my new mac

i bought match hooping it would move all my song from my air to y new mac but it did not? why is this?

iTunes Match is unnecessary to do this, but since you have it...
Verify both computers are signed in with the same apple id under the store menu at the top of your screen.  Under the same menu, click the turn on iTunes Match option.
Without iTunes Match, if both computers are on the same network, you can also click on preferences under the iTunes menu in the upper left by the apple, then click on sharing in the preferences.
Another way, you could have copied your iTunes folder from the old Mac to the new one using an external drive, started iTunes while holding option, and choosing the iTunes folder you copied over.
