How do I transfer ratings from my iPod to iTunes?

Hi, I've read this same question about a billion times on multiple sites, and the two most common answers are
1) you can't, use some 3rd party software, duplicate your whole libary, start over, etc
2) turn on auto sync.
Here's my confusion: I have no problem turning on autosync, as my library and ipod have the same songs, but I have been on "manually manage" for a long time and I don't want to lose the thousands of ratings I have done since I stopped using autosync. I'm cool with going back to autosync as long as my ratings stay, but I am not confident that they will.
Thanks to anyone who can confidently let me know if clicking autosync will or will not delete the ratings from my ipod.

If this is a different computer from the one you originally set the iPod with then yes, changing to Autosync will erase all content from the device and replace it with what it is in your iTunes library. The erasing of content includes your ratings.
Your only option is third party software at this point as you are already aware.

  • HT204406 How do you transfer music from your ipod to itunes match?

How do you transfer music from your ipod to itunes match? I recently bought itunes match and it wont allow me to add songs from my ipod to the music library and match. Before I bought it, it would not allow me to transfer it either. After my purchase, I thought it would solve the problem but it did not. Any solutions?

You can't do it from an iPod, you can only do it from your computer's iTunes

  • How do I transfer songs from my iPod to iTunes?

Okay. At this point I am SO frustrated with Apple. I just hate the company so much right now. Such a simple simple question. How do I transfer songs from my iPod Nano (1st Gen) to iTunes. There is nothing about it in any manual. Apple has no way for you to contact them via email. And it appears the only way to get any answers is to sign up for this ridulous apple account and then sign up again for a posting id or whatever. Anyways. I would simply like to know, how do I transfer the songs from my iPod to my iTunes. Thank you.

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

How to i transfer playlists from my iPhone to iTunes? They are all on my iPhone but not on iTunes how do i get them on there?

iTunes will only transfer purchases back to your computer using the iTunes > File > Transfer purchases from XXX's iPhone.  It will not transfer playlists or non-purchased songs.
Here is an application that will transfer playlists and non-purchases (from iTunes) songs.  There is a free demo limited to 1,000 songs or you can buy the full featured version for $18.99.  http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

  • How do i transfer songs from my ipod to itunes or my pc for free?

I just inhereted an iPod Classic (160GB) from my brother-in-law who passed away in July 2014.  I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes.  I want to transfer and/or view the content of the iPod on my PC (Windows 8.1) and/or iTunes.  How can I do that?

You can't sync or drag your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

  • How do I transfer songs from an IPOD to ITUNES on a computer?

I had to restore my computer to its original factory settings, which deleted ITUNES from the computer.  I downloaded the current version of ITUNES.  How do I transfer songs from a 160gb IPOD to ITUNES on a computer?  The OS is Windows 7.

You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, you can add them to the iTunes library.
NOTE:  Songs previously purchased from the iTunes Store can be re-downloaded at no cost, from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.  The link to Purchased is on the iTunes Store Home screen, under QUICK LINKS.

However all the tv shows, movies, photos etc that are currently on my ipod are not backed up. Is there any way i can transfer that content from my ipod to my laptop/itunes without losing it?

  • How  do i transfer music from old ipod to itunes for new ipod

Im not sure how I am suppose to take the 200 songs that i dont have on my itunes that is on my old ipod, and how Im suppose to transfer this music onto my itunes to get it on to my new ipod??? oh and clicking on the enable disc use isnt working so please and suggestions would be great

    Hi Jperto99
You need to Either get 3rd party software or do it this way
You need to be able to view hidden files on your computer , you need to go to the control panel and find folder options. (i believe that you could change the settings on in the windows explorer by clicking view at the top menu bar. you need to click it so that you can see the hidden files. (i think this explains simply what i said Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and then check (enable) the option “Show hidden files and folders.”)
Next find your ipod now if you have enabled hidden files you need to click on your ipod and find a folder called ipod control. the folder itself will look different maybe a bit transparent because it is hidden. Next you will go in and if you explore further you will see loads of files (transparent like ipod control) with things like F34 F01 (or F1) etc.
They are the files with your music on it and if you click on them, they will show music files but they wont have names. they are encrypted with file names like AKLY (basically four letters or 3 letters put together in capitals) so to get the names and other suff back simply drag the music files into itunes or import them individually (the folders) into itunes by clicking file, import into itunes and by folder.
Then once you have done this the names should be correct in Itunes.
Alternitavely you can drag all the files in 'ipod control' into an external Hard Drive if you go into itunes prefrences you can let itunes put all your music on your computer into organized files of album names.
Hope that Helped (if you don't understand what i said this guide is pretty good http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/P0)
Also if your willing to spend money by doing all of this in one click then this program for £14 (not sure in $) is really good. the free version (does 5 songs at a time) but the great thing is, is that it transfers directly to itunes you can get it here http://www.findleydesigns.com/
You can get other free 3rd party software ill try and find a list for you if you want

  • How do you transfer music from an ipod to itunes?

When I first plugged my ipod into my computer only a small portion of my music library transferred into the library and I cannot figure out how to get all the music that is on my ipod to show up in my itunes library.

  • How do i transfer music from my ipod touch to a windows 7

How do i transfer music from my ipod touch itunes on windows xp

If it is just the music you are after, then steps 2 & 3 have you covered. If you no longer have access to the computer you used to sync with then you may want all the information...
iTunes is designed to sync devices to a single library. When you try to switch libraries you may lose some or all of the information curently stored on the device. To prevent this you should be able to:
Backup the device to a new installation
Transfer your purchases into an authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!
