How do I transfer the computer I sync with?

The speaker on my iPhone stopped working. I visited the local Apple store and they replaced it... I was very impressed, except for having to wait for 2 hours.
He told me to take it home do a restore. I took it home and half way thru the restore, my computer turned off by itself and the iPhone was stuck on a downloading screen.
I visited the Apple Store again. Another 2 hour wait, and they were able to put it into a mode that would allow me to restore.
I took it home and half way thru the restore, my computer turned off AGAIN and the phone got stuck AGAIN. So I found online how to press and hold the buttons while putting it in the cradle to force a restore. Unfortunately, it will not restore from the computer I originally activated the iPhone from.
So I looked online and saw I could copy files from the Apple directory to another computer and restore from there. I thought it had worked, but I cannot complete a sync yet.
I get error messages after 10-100 songs that the 'iPhone' disk could not be located, followed by another error message that 'Chris's iPhone' disk could not be located. I've tried rename 'iPhone' to 'Chris's iPhone' but everyone few syncs it changes back.
At one point, the sync overwrote all my iPhone specific bookmarks, so I am treading lightly so I don't loose anything else.
Tonight I downloaded 1.1.4, but haven't had time to see if it changed anything about this.
How do I safely relocate the association between the old computer and the new computer so I can get rid of the old computer?
Or where are the instructions I'm suppose to follow when they exchange a phone?

Thanks much, that's very helpful for step one (getting old phone onto new phone).  Very clear.
However, I still have the problem of moving to the new computer.  How do I move the sync to the new computer after the new phone is set up?

Enable iCloud on both, and Calendars on the iPhone should sync with iCal on the Mac wirelessly.

Place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore on any computer with iTunes. For recovery mode:

  • How do I change the computer I sync my I-Phone with?

I have an I-Phone 3GS and have changed from a PC platform to a Mac platform. I can't get my I-Phone to sync completely with my Mac. I'm afraid I'll lose the music on I-Tunes as well as some apps I have purchased. Any help here?

Copy everything from your old computer to the new one.
Open itunes, connect iphone, select what you want, sync.

  • All content on my iphone 4 was erased with iOS 5 update even though I updated using the computer I sync with!

I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. All my ringtones, music, apps, movies, etc were removed from my iPhone. They are still available in iTunes but will not sync to my iPhone. I turned on iCloud. How do I get my data back to my phone without starting over from scratch?

    What fixed it for me:
On your computer, open iTunes > My iPhone (or whatever name you gave your iPhone) > "Music" page
    Uncheck "Sync Music"
    Click "Sync" button (bottom right)
    Let it run and finish
Uncheck the box for every song, playlist, etc.
Click "Sync" button (bottom right) (This step may be unnecessary, but I did it and got the result I wanted.)
    Let it run and finish
Check the boxes for the music you want on your iPhone
    Click "Sync" button (bottom right)
    Let it run and finish
See if that doesn't work for you.  I tried a lot of things that did nothing, but this seems to have fixed it, and quickly.

  • How can i activate the I-Tunes Sync with a Win 7 pc

The activating of WLAN Sync is Not possible as described in Manual

All you can do with a Windows system from ARD is observe and control. For that, you'll need to install a VNC server on the Windows system. If you search this forum for "VNC", you should find suggestions on software that people have had success/failures with.

  • How Put the computer to sleep with a "F key?

    Hi,
How do you Put the computer to sleep with a "F key?
I do remember seeing a version of osX where there was a (say) "F2" key next to the Apple>Sleep pull down menu.
with 10.2.8 or 10.3.9 is there a way to set up a "F" key instead of using the pull down menu?
I looked into the system preferences> keyboard & mouse but no luck. The sys Pref> keyboard & mouse is different on 10.2.8 that on 10.3.9.
An neither one has an option to use an F key to put to sleep.
    help!
    Michel

Not an F key command, but here's a keyboard command.

New itunes is trying to wipe the ipod. But have many many playlists (many hours making) which I want to save. Any help would be appreciated.

If you want to just extract the playlists from your iPod, plug it in iTunes.  When it appears under devices, right->click on it and choose Export Playlists.  Save them to a location such as your desktop and them import them into your library once you have copied and imported all of your music back into it.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • I recently got the iPhone 4s, but my iPod has a lot of apps with a lot of data on them and don't want to start over. I already synced my iPhone from the computer that had all my apps from my iPod, how do i transfer the data over, the other apps did.

If I wiped my phone I wouldn't have the contacts on my phone to send to my self.    I would need to take just the contacts from my back up. I would have to do this through iTunes and I don't see how I can just extract the contacts only from my back up. From what I can figure out it is all or nothing

  • HT1848 How do I transfer the songs from my desktop to my iPad using the same iTunes account? I can only sync the other way. Thanks

How do I transfer the songs from my desktop to my iPad using the same iTunes account? I can only sync the other way. Thanks

    DaisyDoodle,
The songs on your Shuffle should still be in your iTunes library.  That means you should just be able to connect your Nano to the same iTunes library and sync it just as you would with your Shuffle. There is no limit to the number of iPods, iPads, or iPhones you can sync to one computer, iTunes library, or account.
As for preparing the Shuffle for your husband, just restore it via iTunes and then let him sync it to his own iTunes library or if its the same iTunes library, let him configure it to sync only his content.
Here are instructions on how to restore the Shuffle if need be.

Syncing an iDevice to a computer does not remove content from the computer.
Syncing an iDevice to a computer that it does not normally sync with will remove the content from that device.
If the media was acquired with a different Apple ID it is in no way linked to your Apple ID.

  • I have the computer with my itunes library on it but no longer have access to the email account the library was set up with. How can I transfer the library to a new appleid/email?

I have the computer that holds my itunes library. However, I no longer have access to the email account (and therefore apple account) it was set up with so can't sync/update etc. How can I transfer the library to my new apple id? Any help gratefully received as searched the internet but can't find the answer!
Have ipod touch 4th gen, ipod touch 5th gen and ipod nano 7th gen all to sync to library.

    Hi Stillme,
You cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another. You need to go into the old Apple ID and change it to the new email address instead of using a new Apple ID altogether.
    Apple - My Apple ID
If you can't remember the password to the old ID, then click on Reset your Password, and answer the Security Questions. If you can't remember the Security Questions, contact iTunes Support and have them reset:
    APPLE ID SECURITY CONTACT NUMBERS
Once you get into your old account, Edit the Apple ID to your new email address. Before you will be able to do that you are going to have to change the email address on the new Apple ID to something else.
