I am switching from my Windows PC to my new MacBook Air and I would like to transfer my windows mail files to imail. Is this possible? If so, please proide instructions.

Depends on how big the file is. If itis only a couple of pages, or mostly text, the easiest way would be to e mail it. If it is a very large file you are going to need wifi. Take both pads to starbucks, and e mail it from there. Or if you have wifi, use drop box, for example.
Your other choice, avoiding wifi would be a bluetooth type transfer. There is an app call bluetooth file lite that reads like it will do what you need. The good news is it is free. The bad news is that it has terrible ratings. For grins, i am installing it now on a pad and a phone, and will see if it works.
With a bluetooth method, you need both devices in the same place. If you are trying to send your file across country, bluetooth will not work for you. you need e mail or drop box type solution, and if the file is big, you will almost certainly need wifi.

If you haven't already set up a Mail account in ML, you can copy the Mail folder from Tiger to ML on the same position
~/Library/Mail
Please note that in ML Library folder is hidden from the Finder. To access it select Go from the Finder menu, press alt/option key and hold it. You'll see Library popping up inside the Go menu.

That's not quite what I meant. What I meant was that any authoritative forward looking information is not allowed on these forums (see the ToS). Anyone who has access to such information is restricted from releasing it. In essence, that reduces to "rumor" any forward looking information you might see here. How do I transfer Outlook mail archive files to iMail?

I am migrating from a PC desktop to a new iMac to fully integrate our family devices. I have several thousand archived Outlook emails as well as current emails that I need to migrate to iMail. I have installed Parallels 8 to run several PC only programs. I have also installed MS Office for Mac (not including Outlook).
Can this be done without a utility program? if not, which is the recommended program to accomplish this. I'd like to keep the archived emails in their original folders. Many thanks!

Connect the two with a Firewire cable - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the old computer into Target Disk Mode and the new computer normally. Open Mail, select Import Mailboxes from the File menu. Select the Entourage option and follow instructions.

Many thanks for this. This was very useful and a good starting point. I'm a very recently converted and proud new owner of one of the 20", 2GHz Intel Core Duo Imacs, and am in the process of converting all of my important files and data over from my home PC to my Mac.
So far all has gone well; sorting out my ITunes and Digital Photos was easy as pie, as was my documents, however my last hurdle to overcome is trying to transfer my emails from MS Outlook on my Home PC to my Mac Mail. I have tried your Thunderbird suggestion which seems to have me on the right track, but the outcome was that only 1 of the 130 emails in my Outlook Inbox were imported. I've also tried using installing Eudora on my Home PC and importing all my Outlook email to that, however each time I try that Eudora ends up crashing leaving me back at square one.
I will keep searching this discussion forum for other ideas, but in the meantime if you have any other helpful suggestion I'd be grateful!

Hello. I just got my new Macbook Pro with Mac OSX version 10.5.2. I set up my mail account on the computers mac's mail application but I am having trouble transferring my old mail and smart mailboxes from my old computer (iMac with version 10.4.11). I transfered over everything in the "Mail" folder in the "Library", but my old mail and smart mailboxes with that mail are not showing up on my new computer. Any advice of how to do this please!?

The easiest way is to either network the 2 Macs, or use FW Target Mode on the older one..

I managed to transfer most settings by copying some preference files, but what I don´t get to transfer is a sort of adressbook:
If I type a new e-mail and enter a letter or the beginning of a name in the adress-field, mail shows me all adresses, I have ever send an e-mail to, begining with this letter.
Which file do I need to copy, to have all these adresses on my macbook too?

Apple Mail communicates with Apple Address Book, so if you want all your contacts on your new machine, you have to export them from Address Book first (as vCards for example). To do that open up Address Book, choose the contacts or group of contacts you want to export, choose "export vcards" from the file-menu and type the filename. After that copy the created file to your new machine, open up Address Book and import the contacts using the import-command in the file-menu (at this point you have to browse for the earlier created vcards-file). Now all your contacts should also be available for Mail.

I recently upgraded from a power pc Mac Mini, to the 20 inch iMac. I used the Target disk mode to transfer my pictures and some other stuff...BUT i really couldn't see how I would transfer any mail that was still in my mailbox on my old computer to my new one. and what about the Address book. I actually dragged it to the desktop of the iMac, but not sure what to do with it from there. Is it the same version as the one in Leopard? or if I open it will I mess up something in my new program? As you can see, I'm not too good at this!

The folder you want are in your old user folder on your old computer.
You can still use the migration assistant but do it manually. Connect via the Firewire Target Disk Mode and you will see the HD on your desktop... Open it up...
The folders you want are inside your home folder, Library folder...
1. Take the entire Mail folder
2. Take the entire Safari folder if you want all your old bookmarks, etc...
3. For the Address Book, open up the Application Support folder and drag over the entire Address Book folder...
Make sure you put them back in the same location on the new computer....
