How do I transform/skew/change perspective of a photo

Sorry, not quite sure of the correct terminology
I have a load of images that were created with a camera on a tripod, pointing down at the original 10x8 prints.
Unfortunately, the film plane and print place holder were not 100 % parallel to each other.
I think it was in Photoshop on my Windows machine I I used to be able to Edit | Transform | Skew or Free transform something like that.
I cant seem to find it in Aperture, but that could be because I am searching for the incorrect terms in the help.
I do have a copy of PS here on the Mac, but for some reason the Transform options are greyed out...using jpeg images....single layer un edited directly out of the camera.
If I cant do this in Aperture, any PS experts here that can tell me why the options are greyed out.
If it comes to it I can always go back to my Virtual XP install, but I would really like to do it all on the Mac, now I have spent all this money on it. If I gotta go back to XP to do this, it feels like I have wasted money on the Mac.
Thanks
Neil

Right thanks for all of that.
The content did really need to look true and square. A lot of the content was things like old advertising papperwork, artwork etc pictured alongside other stuff. So it really needed to look square.
I too was a little uneasy about using iPhoto, not being suere quite what it was doing, so started with the first frame again and did the complete lot again in PS using Bridge to choose the images from. The longest part of the workflow was saving the images back in JPEG, because of the nag screens..."Are you sure you want to replace?" 'This Image has not been saved, save now' Created an automatic action for that task and all was plain sailing after that.
Would have loved to use Aperture, but last night was not the time to start experimenting. Will have a play again in the next few days, see if I can find this 'Crop in Perspective' you talk about Ernie. Am at 'real work ' now. Will take a peak at the link yo gave later.
Thanks again for the quick reaponses to h=this amateurs crisis

You would need software form a third party to have this option.  The free software that comes with the 8600 doesn't have an option for that. Vuescan is the only software I could find that says it works with your pritner and has a descreen option.  You have to purchase it, but it will give you more advanced options than the software that came with the printer.

  • How to keep the new changes of a raw photo in Photoshop cs6?

With photoshop cs5 and prior, after editing a raw photo, the system will automatically keep the new changes so that next time when i open the raw file, it will appear with the new changes. however cs6 doesn't seem to have this function anymore. Is it right? how can i do this with cs6?

What do you do after making the changes?  Either opening the edited RAW file, or clicking on  Done will create the sidecar (XMP) files which contain all of the information about your adjustments.  The next time you open that RAW file, it will look for an XMP file with the same file name, and use the information contained in it.
If you delete the XMP files, it's back to square one!
You deleted them to save space?  A typical XMP file is probably less than 10kb, which is a tiny fraction of the size of the RAW file.  You need to rethink your strategy.

  • How to soften/transform the background edges of a picture

    Working with PS CS 5.5
    Background:
I have succsssfully used the Transform=>Skew command to 'square' a photo of an art canvas. And have cropped the photo to the edge of the canvas.
    Question:
What are the steps/strategy to selecting the black/dark background and converting to a transparent or lighter color.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello!
You might want to look if one channel doest not hold most of the difference in darkness,
But I'm wondering if using the dodge tool in a straight line (click, shift+click) might not give sufficiently good results.

  • Use Lens Correction or Transform/Skew for Vertical Perspective??

I recently visited the Redwoods in California and took many photos of trees with a wide angle lens, which as you know causes the trees to bend inwards. I have tried using both Filter/Distort/Lens Correction and Transform/Skew to attempt to correct the problem. It is my observation that Lens Correction reduces the number of pixels by producing a trapezoid shaped image with the sides slanting inwards. Skewing does the opposite: increases the pixels by creating a trapezoid with the sides slanting outwards.
What are the pros and cons of using each method to correct vertical perspective? How will the image quality differ with each method? Thanks!!

  • How can we transform a video from progressive to interlaced with final cut?

How can we transform a video from progressive (720x1080 50p) to interlaced (PAL) with final cut pro???????
The video is taken with Sony EX3

    Hi Nick
Sorry but your first link says +"The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable."+ ... but tell me, are you viewing these interlaced encodes yourself on an interlaced monitor (eg are you burning them to disc and viewing on a TV) as they are meant to be seen, or are you just playing them back from file on your (progressive) computer display?
By the way, I did manage to download your source file and encoded it here. Looks ok to me ... in a addition to the instruction above, I also changed the Field Dominance in the Encoder > Video Format tab to Top First (it defaulted to progressive due to the progressive source file).
Let me know if that helps

I want to ask about changing perspective and perspective correction in photoshop. Obviously, we can tilt and straighten buildings and other monuments, which are leaning in any direction. Now, what I want to know is whether we can change perspective for human faces. For example, if there is a human face, where one part of the face is facing the camera and the other part of the face is only partially facing the camera, can we make this face look totally at the camera? I mean, look straight in front, and I am talking about the whole face here. I am attaching an image as an example of what I am talking about. @

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.
If there are specific tasks you need help with:

  • How do i transform a layer with maintain aspect ratio through scripting in Photoshop?

    Hi,
How do i transform a layer with maintain aspect ratio through scripting in Photoshop? I am expecting your reply.
    thanks,
    Rajiv.s

I don't think your talking apples to apples.  First I do not know of any Maintain Aspect Ratio icon in Photoshop. The only icon I think associated with transform is the anchor point icon in the option bar for transform. I think you may referring to the constrain check box in the image size dialog which you can check when resample is checked. Image size effect all layers in the document and the documents canvas size. The document canvas size will be changed to the values in the images size dialog and all layers will be transformed by percentage the canvas was changes while maintaining the layers position over the canvas and the layers I think may be cropped so only pixels over the canvas remain.
I do not know if you know that layers can be any size and have aspect ratios different then the documents canvas.
In your case it sounds like your describing a template that has a canvas size that is 2000px wide be 3000px high a 2:3 portrait aspect ratio.  Your image file has a landscape aspect. If you place that image into your template place would by default transform the image so the image would fit within the 2000px by 3000px canvas size there would be a white border top and bottom.  You could transform that smart object layer to it actual pixels size activeDocument.activeLayer.resize(100,100, AnchorPosition.MIDDLECENTER); then calculate the size you want to transform its height to. By retrieving the canvas size and the layers boundaries. Divide the canvas height pixel size by the layers pixel height size should give you the percentage you need to use. Make sure you set the ruler units to pixels so your working with pixel values for the canvas and layer size values. The resulting layer will be larger then canvas size keeping the anchor point centered will result in the canvas size masking off both sides.  In effect cropping you landscape to a portrait.  Note cropping a image from one orientation to the other changes the composition drastically.
If your trying to make a composit like collage you may want to look at my Photoshop Collage Toolkit it will fit images to fill a 2000px by 3000px area http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/PhotoCollageToolkit.html
You could also do centered 2:3 crop that is resized to a 3000px

  • Make animation changing perspective ???

    Hey guys!
I'm from Brazil and just registered in this forum! I love photoshop  and after effects, and I needed to do one animation that has to change  its  perspective. It's like that:
I have the wolf's mouth as a layer, and I change its  perspective to  open it more. My problem is that I needed to make an  animation of this,  so I just needed to keyframe this change of  pespective, so that I  could generate all the frames to make an animation  of the mouth  opening!!
I couldn't find a way to do this. In Photoshop I can easily change the perspection, but can't keyframe it, and in After Effects, I would maybe be able to keyframe this, but couldn't dinf an easy way to change perspective. Someone has a clue on how to do that ??
    Thanks

  • Compute transform matrix for perspective transform

    Hello,
    I have the following problem:
I have the coordinates of a quadrilateral in an image. Furthermore I have the coordinates of the same quadrilateral but from another perspective. Now I'm seeking a way to compute a transform matrix that transforms the second perspective to the first one, so that both quadrilateral have the same coordinates again.
Unfortunately I'm not very experienced in Image manipulation and I just discovered the JAI API today. I figured out that there is the class PerspectiveTransform to do transforms with a given transform Matrix, but i wasn't able to find out how I can compute this matrix. Is there maybe an easy way to solve my problem with the help of JAI?

  • How to forbid any further changes for PO (QTY and price ) after it has been

    Hi,
How to forbid any further changes for PO (QTY and price ) after it has been done GR and LIV? Thanks.

    Hi,
Price anyway cannot be changed once GR is posted on the PO item, it can be changed only by cancelling the GR, the same applies to IR too.
But quantity can be changed at any time.
So if you are looking at blocking qty too, then a customized message through save exit is the option, I am not aware of any standard SAP messages that can be configured to achieve this..
