  • Is it possible that after 3 years my Mac computer damaged the port to my camera?  I have not always disconnect it properly using eject before disconnecting. I have 2 cameras that are Sony CyberShot and they both shut down when I connect to the computer.

Is it possible that after 3 years my MacBook has damaged the port on my camera?  I thought I had a battery problem with both my Sony CyberShot cameras (they are they same age).  I had trouble getting the cameras to come on but then when it did come on after charging repeatedly, it turned off when I connected it to the computer to download pictures.  I ordered 2 new batteries and the camera came on but went off immediately when I connected it to the computer.  After that, the camera would not come back on.  Help please!

John, thanks for the email so quickly.
I too hope I haven't tried "everything" either but I am reasonably technical.  I had done what you suggested to do before but I did both again.
Ethernet is yellow in the left side bar.  In the right pane it's status says Connected but then below it says "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
I have tried the assist me menu and Network Status has Ethernet Green, Network settings Yellow, ISP Green, and Internet and Server Red and Failed for both.  I have turned things off and on, checked cables, deleted all locations and tried restting them up but to no avail.  I even disconnected everything and connected the mac directly into the cable modem itself and the thing still will not connect.
    Thoughts???

  • How can I fix an iPod 5 when it won't turn on?

My ipod 5 won't turn on. Whenever I charge it, it won't turn on. I need help with how I can fix so it could power up again.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iphone got wet how do i get it to work again- it won't turn on.

Got caught in a rainstorm and my iPhone got wet-- how do I get it to turn on again...it won't turn on?  I've already tried putting it in rice for 2 days and nothing.  Any other suggestions?

Let it dry for a week or so.
If you have tried to charge it or turn it on, then the damage is likely done

Ever had a problem where your computer won't turn on after sleeping for a few minutes? (I've discovered that too many downloads cause this) Anyway... have you ever tried pushing the power button for one second? Try it! It's been working for me! Hope this helped!

  • Since downloading itunes 11.03 I cannot get back movies on my ipad  or music and i have no clue how it works anymore after many years of enjoying it, I now have no clue and I'm about as angry as anyone could be.  What has happened !!

Please help , I have downloaded upgrade 11.03.. Now I have lost my movies and music files from my ipad and cannot reinstall them , try as I might.  Having used itunes for years I cannot believe I cannot mkae this work and feel very let down by itunes for allowing this upgrade to mess everything up still havent put it right. so can anyone help or are we all waiting for apple and itunes to sort themselves out. They must be loosing money as I can see from so many comment pages else where I am not the only person by far that is having the same or similar issues. I have wasted hours and still no further forward. I have lost all faith in apple itunes and reluctant to change anything or download any other updates, sad for someone who has a ipone , ipod and ipad.

I copied this from an extremely knowledgable iTunes for Windows user in another discussion. Maybe this will help.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit (iTunes) > Preferences > Store anduntick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit(iTunes) > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 you can enable artwork in the Songs and playlist views from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view.
If you are a Mac user, all you have to do is start navigating through the menu items at the top of the screen to find just about everything that is mentioned here.

  • After 10 years of Mac OS X server DNS GUI wrapper still breaking configs

    WHY?
Against my better judgment I used the Server Admin's DNS tool to add a zone. Next thing I know it's going and added random data from the new zone to most if not all my zone records. It's changed the SOA for all my zones to some random concatenation of the new zone's data, it's concatenated A records to NS records. I had to go in and manually repair ALL of my records.
What's so hard about creating a functional BIND wrapper?
Lesson Learned - SAVE YOURSELF HOURS OF UNNECESSARY FRUSTRATION, NEVER USE SERVER ADMIN'S DNS TOOL, NOT EVEN TO DO SOMETHING SIMPLE LIKE ADD A NEW ZONE RECORD.
**** I wouldn't use it at all if Apple hadn't removed the means to turn the **** server on and off from the command line.

Sure there are a world full of solutions out there but I've already invested time, money, and a knowledge of how things work on OS X. Seems kind of silly for you to say that I should throw the baby out with the bath water and just find the "solution that works". I have no problems with any other service I'm running, with Apache and Postfix running smoothly, since they have the first time they were configured back in 2002.
BIND on Mac OS X server works just fine when the Apple specific components and changes aren't thrown into the mix. I've been running it this way since OS X Server was released (**** I even ran BIND on "Client" for a while without any issues back before server was available) and I've mostly enjoyed 100% uptime despite those times when I was naive to think "Apple must have fixed ServerAdmin DNS. Let me just make one minor change using the GUI tool."
Is it too much for me to ask that if they can't make the tool work right then, for the love of the great and holy Admin, don't mess with it at all? Seriously if it isn't broken don't fix it. I'll happily manually config from the command line, lovingly reseting my serial numbers for each edit, the one time every couple of year that I might need to do so. Instead of releasing a tool thats only going to break your configs, don't continue to tease us with ease of use GUI apps.

  • Macbook Pro's screen goes black after going to sleep and won't turn on no matter what key I press

Hi there, I just got a new Macbook Pro, it's literally six days old. I just got some new memory installed on it and now the screen frequently stays black after it has gone to sleep for several minutes. No key will reawaken my laptop, though the small light indicating power at the bottom right hand corner of the laptop still glows, making me think the laptop is still on. Is this normal? Is there any way to remedy this?

Read the user manual to make sure you installed the ram correctly.  Put the old ram back in.  Same issue?
If you were not the person that installed the ram, return the computer.
    Call Apple Care.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • Frozen ipod after the update and it won't turn off

After the 2.0.1 update itunes wouldn't recognize my ipod touch. I ran the diagnostics and no iphone or ipod touch was found. My computer knows it's there but itunes doesn't detect it. The ipod is frozen on the screen with cracked apple and the load circle right below. It's been like this for about 6 hours. I at least just want to turn off the ipod. I've tried all kinds of methods to remedy this but nothing works. I'm afraid the ipod might get damaged being like that for so long. I would appreciate it if someone can help. This is so frustating.

This happened to me last night. My screen was frozen with the "cracked" Apple logo. I thought it was toast. I decide to give it one more try. This time I held the top On/Off button until it rebooted. I had it for several seconds (I don't know how many seconds, but it seems like almost 30). I may have held the "Home" button at the same time.
When the IT rebooted, everything was fine.

  • After updating the software Mac won't Start!!! Plz help.

Hi last week I brought MacBook Pro 17" Lion 10.7.3, 2.4 ghz Intel core i7, 4gb Ram.
I updated its software before going for work in countryside. But now when I restart it stops on grey screen with apple logo after the blue screen.
I can mov the cursor but I login window doesn't comes up...
I didn't brought my Back up Drive to boot with....
I went through the discussions on my iphone and have tried doing all this ..
    1. Went into safe mode and into disk utility and have verified disk and repaired disk.
Have also done verifying and repairing disk permissions. It goes all good but still when I restart it gets
Stuck on that grey screen with no login space.
    2. Have also tried going into single user mode and tried doing those steps about Fsck
But only first time it says file modified and after that I tried it again and everytime it says disk is ok.
And then restarted it but again gets stuck.
    3. Have also tried going into terminal in utilities and putting the commands that Kappy has tried to explain to someone through sudo chow.
And restart it but then also gets stuck on grey screen.
    4. I tried locating /System/Library for editing the start up items but can't find that.
I will go back to main city in 2 weeks. Till then I can only start in safe mode. Any suggestion plz.

Restart and hold down the command-r keys so the Mac boots to the Lion Recovery disk. Select Disk Utility and then run Repair Disk.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, mac won't let me type password to log in.

I installed mountain lion about 6 days ago and whenever i startup my computer it is really slow. Then when i go to type in my password nothing will type and i cant use the trackpad either. To be able to log in, I have to sleep my imac and then retry and then usually it will let my type. It is also really slow when i am running more than 1 program at once. Any solutions?

Are you clicking the password field or just tapping? Tapping does not work in the login screen.
