How do I turn Faces OFF? Completely unusable for me!!

There has got to be a way to turn off the abomination that is FACES.
I am providing tech support for a local theatre with 15K+ photos. I have used IPhoto Manager to separate the photos into 5 libraries by season with roughly 3K photos in each. Faces is completely useless to us - We only care about particular shows, i.e. Events, not individuals in a particular show. Every time I start a library it starts running Faces again. How can I make this stop? It is making IPhoto useless to us!

There is not currently a a way as you can see from reading the many posts on this subject in this forum - if you just let it finish its initial scan it stays out of the way and you ignore it

How do I turn faces off?

There is a way to disable Faces from creating the small face files and writing to the database file. It will still do a search but that's rather harmless.  Here's how:
1 - open the library like this in the Finder.
2 - in the Database folder move this file to the Trash: Faces.db.
3 - close the package/folder and launch iPhoto.  Close it after a moment.
4 -  open the package, find the new version of the file and lock it via the Info window for the file.
5 - while viewing the contents of the package type Command+F to start a search.
6 - set the criteria of the search to:  Kind is Image and Name Contains "face".
7 - select all of the files in the search results window and drag to the Trash.
8 -close the package and launch iPhoto.
You will get the faces spinning wheel as it tries to index the library the first time it's opened but it won't be able to write to the database file if you should try to add a face and won't create any new jpeg faces files. Of course make a backup of your library before trying this and no guarantee implied.

Open the Seeing tab of the Universal Access pane of System Preferences and turn it off. If it's on at the login window, turn it off from the Accounts pane under Login Options.

  • In Yosemite, I can;t operate for more than a few minutes with Keychain or Safari asking for my login password.  How can I turn this off, and still be safe?

Using Yosemite, I an't seem to work for more than a few minutes without being asked for my login password.  Keychain wants it, Safari wants it, iCloud wants it..the list goes on.  Then in 10 minutes or so, they all want it again.  Passwords are being stored by Safari as usual, but new tabs or pages bring up the request.  How can I turn this off and still have protection?

    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

Are you running 10.6 Snow Leopard as your profile indicates?
If so, it sounds like maybe an Expose or Active Screen Corners issue?
Go to Apple > System Preferences > Expose & Spaces > Expose and
    1. experment with the Active Screen Corners selections
    2. take a look at your F key settings for Expose
    3. lastly check your Dashboard settings

  • I can't log out of my guest account because DLconnectMonitor won't turn off.  How do I turn it off?

I am planning on lending one of my Mac products to a friend so she can watch our Easter service on FaceTime.  In preparation for this, I logged into the guest account and found the administrator had to give permission for the guest to use FaceTime and DLconnectMonitor.  It looked like this had to be done for the guest account to work at all, so I gave permission.  When I went to log out of the guest account, I couldn't becauseDLconnectMonitor would not turn off.  I can't even find it on my computer.  Does anybody know how I can turn it off and log out of my guest account?

Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
You may have to log out or reboot in order to complete an uninstallation.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • Safari 6 and password saving. How do I turn it off?

How do you stop Safari 6 from saving passwords? I can't seem to find a setting to turn it off completely. Without the setting it bugs me every time I enter a username and password on a website. I don't want Safari to save my passwords and I don't want it to ever ask me to save passwords.
If there isn't a we to turn it off in the UI is there a terminal command to turn it off? It is extremely annoying.

Same issue - for the most part I don't want Safari to save userId's or passwords.  So the brute force will work.  I would prefer the ability to specify just the VERY FEW sights I'd like saved.  That is "Save ONLY these passwords"
Any chance the is a way to do thiw with Mountian Lion?

It sounds that you are running the same iCloud account with two phones.  I recommend you to create a different iCloud account and you should be all set.
