How do I turn off Air Drop on my MacBook Pro?

Realy don't like the idea of my MacBook being available to people around me.

Open a terminal  and copy & paste:
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser DisableAirDrop -bool YES
restart your computer

how do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

You don't. You may find some third-party software that will, however. Try Auto Mute.
    Alternatively, you can try this:
I think this is the best and simplest solution. Open a Terminal window and type (or copy/paste) the following to turn down the startup noise:
         sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume="%00"
    Press RETURN.
And to restore it to the original value type:
         sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume
    Press RETURN.
    That's all folks.

  • How can I turn off my password on my MacBook Pro?

I (somehow) created a password whenever my MacBook Pro is either turned on or awaken from sleep mode because I was having issues with my roommates. They have since moved out, and I cannot remember how I created the password, or how to turn it off completely. I went into System Preferences>Security & Privacy, but don't see any option of turning it off completely, just changing the time it goes to sleep and asks for a password to turn back on.
    Thank you.

  • How do I turn off the camera on my MacBook Pro?

I was using Facetime and quit it, but the isight camera on my computer is still on. I've tried reopening and quitting photobooth and facetime, but it's still on. Can anyone give me any advice on how to turn it off? Thanks!

    Restart your Mac.
Actually Quit the Facetime App. Just closing the window might not actually close the program.

  • How do I completely turn off font smoothing on my MacBook pro?

I am at a loss. I've seen dozens of people complain about this, but I'm still hoping there's a solution: How do I turn off font smoothing on my MacBook pro? I've toggled the anti-aliasing options every which way, and no matter what I do, the text is always slightly blurry (there's always a slight halo of grey around the characters to smooth them out). This would be the perfect computer if I could just turn that dang feature off completely, but as it is it's so hard on my eyes I can't use it for reading or writing for any extended period.

DigiLloyd posted some aditional info on this subject, here:
"Apple abandoned useful font smoothing user interface support in Mac OS X Leopard for a “moron setting” in Mac OS X Snow Leopard, leaving those with non-Apple displays high and dry with unattractive text display.
You’ll need to use Terminal to set things right (or at least better, which is not to say optimal)."

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • How Do I turn off Text message on my MacBook Air

My MacBook Air, my husband's Macbook Pro, and my Iphone4 are all linked and therefore my husband sees all my text. The problem is an educator I may be discussing something confidential, therefore how do I unlink his mac from my iphone. We do share the same Apple account...

    Hi there Zorro1960,
You should be able to prevent your messages from going to your computer, by removing your phone number from iMessages and turning off Text Message Forwarding using these instructions. They are about turning on these features but you should turn them off instead:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • How do you turn off snap to grid in Logic Pro x

    Hi
How do you turn off snap to grid as in garageband .....it was quite simple...
But I don't seem to get to grips with this in logic ....
I have options of smart ...and so on ....
I want to be able to move eg an imported audio file to start wherever I want so not to snap to the nearest beat or bar...
    Anyone know??
    Thanks

Technically you cannot turn it off, but you can choose a very fine resolution which in effect boils down to having it off: ticks. For accurately lining up audio you can use Samples (the smallest snap value, probably equates to GB's off setting?).
I have F5 to F8 assigned to snap values bar, beat, division and tick. Very handy.
The Frames values obviously come in handy when working to video, though there's no law agaist using it without video.
Note that they are ordered from big to smallest.

  • How can I turn off all sharing on my Macbook

I am a new Mac user and although I love it I am unfamiliar with the sharing options and how they work. I haven't gotten a clear answer yet but my question is how can I ensure that I am not sharing any of my files. I can see other users who are sharing. Will other users still be able to see me if I am not sharing and how do I turn it off. Thank You.

Go to System Preferences -> Sharing. If everything there is turned off, nobody can access any of your files remotely.
For that matter, even if you have stuff turned on, if it's all configured correctly, someone would need to know a password to access anything.

Yes you can shutdown as many times per day as you like
Yes you can use it plugged in even if the battery shows 100%, as per Apple guide on batteries here: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
They recommend you use the battery and allow it to drain to below 40% of capacity atleast once a month to in their words 'keep the juices flowing' and for longterm storage where you won't be using the device, they recommend you unplug it and let it drain to about 50% before shutting it down and not using it for a long period of time ie: 6 months

  • How do I turn off the drop-down menu on the back button?

I use a laptop and my hands aren't too dextrous. Every time I click the "back" button I get the drop down menu, which means I then need to move my hand back to the pad (slowly!) move the pointer, and try again. It can take me several attempts to go back one site now!
I have searched for hours to find out how to turn this drop down menu off, to no avail, and even looked through all the settings in about:config in an attempt to find a way around this. It seriously impacts my ability to use my laptop on the web now, so if anyone can please come up with a way to get back to the old back button, with no menu when my slow old finger cannot move fast enough to get off the button, I would be very grateful.

You can use that list and open the previous tab just above the one that appears bold and has a bullet.
The current active entry has a bullet in front of it.<br />
If you hover an entry in the tab session history list with the mouse then you see an arrow at the left side pointing left (Back) or right (Forward) to show the direction.<br />
You can left click an item to open it in the current tab or middle-click or Ctrl left-click an entry in that list to open that link in new tab, just like you can with other links.<br />

  • How to I turn OFF Scene Detect in Final Cut Pro 5.0?

Hey. I recently bought a new Sony HD camera and when I want to import my footage, it logs each cut as a clip. So lets say I have a 10 minute scene with 50 cuts, after I log the footage I have 50 different clips to edit with.
I like having one big long scene and taking small pieces from it as I go along. Plus it seems like after 10 cuts, the importing stops and I have to start all over again.
I just want to sit back and import long pieces of footage without the hassle of hundreds of 5-10 second clips, its going to be very hard to organize.
I saw this on the Apple support site but it didn't really help me. Is this something that is permanent and you cant change? I hope not. http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23293?viewlocale=en_US
    Please help!

But it didn't do that with standard.
Standard def editing formats always have an I frame structure. Every frame is independant and can be edited. Not so with HDV, it is a [long GOP|http://www.highdef.com/library/whatishdv.htm] format so if there is a break, it has to be in the right place.
What you're telling me is that it can't be disabled?
    Guess so.
