Turned everything off but the kitchen sink...powered down and back up...persistent email sound goes off everytime mail arrives (junk or good). Thanks. Started happening after upgrading my wife's iPhone 5.  I had no problems with upgrade on my own iPhone 5 (imagine that LOL).

further clarified, yes I move Mail App to DO NOT INCLUDE and the mail icon now appears in that list. Mail is set to Vibrate Only...thanks for trying

  • How can I turn off email alerts in Lion server?

I have a 2011 Mini Server.  I don't want to run any of the server software and followed the instructions in the Apple article "How to disable Lion Server".  The problem I'm having is that I keep getting email alerts, mostly the same one saying "The host name of server.local has changed to server.local. Some services may not work correctly until they have been updated to use the new configuration."  Can anyone help me really shut down Lion server?

No worries. Typically you can rename a machine by just changing the name System Preferences -> Sharing. But there is also a command line option to adjust the name, and if you don't use the command line option, the server freaks out and will alert you about the change forever. ie - for servers, you need to use the command I describe below.
The command is called changeip and can be run from command line in Terminal.app. It is for manually chaning the ip address and or name of a machine. It basically has 4 parameters: old ip address, new ip address, old machine name, new machine name.
Basically the command looks like this:
sudo changeip OLDIPADDRESS NEWIPADDRESS OLDNAME NEWNAME
If any value is being kept the same, just repeat the identical information as both the old and new value.
Example 1: Changing the IP address and host name. This would update the machine's ip address to be 192.168.1.2 and its name would be update to my_new_name.
    sudo changeip 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.2 my_old_name my_new_name
Example 2: Keeping the IP address the same but updating the name. This would update the machine's name to my_new_name but would keep the same ip address.
    sudo changeip 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 my_old_name my_new_name
Most likely you're just wanting to update the name, in which case you should follow the second example. If you run this, be sure to reboot the machine afterwards and test to make sure that any enabled services are running properly.

  • How do I turn off email alerts of postings in this forum?  They're inundating my inbox?

I was trying to troubleshoot problems with font and other graphics on my macbook Pro which had gotten incredibly tiny after the last auto-update.  Still have no answer on that.
Now my mac.com inbox is being inundated by notifications of EVERY post in the user community.  How do I opt out of these notifications?  I can't find anyway to do that.
    Brian H.

Click on your name, then Preferences on the right side navigation, then Email Notification Preferences.

  • Can i turn off email alerts for find my iphone

How do you turn off email alerts for find my iphone?

There is no way to turn it off, just reduce it. It is a new security feature. It depends on where you are logging in that is generating the email. If you are logging in from a computer browser, if you have cookies on, it should not generate the email except for the first time that you use that device. If it is from logging in to the Find My iPhone app on the iPhone or iPad, if you have a passcode lock set on the device, it will not generate the email, as you will not be logged out of the app on the phone. You just use the home button to get past the app and it stays logged in by not tracking. You open the app again and it will just take you right in without having the log in and will refresh itself.

How do we turn off the alert emails when we do a search with find my iphone?

You are not talking to Apple on here, we are all fellow users and not Apple employees.  You can comment to Apple by giving feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback
What we have heard is this 'feature' was added as a result of the high-profile downloads of celebrity photos from iCloud accounts.

  • Anyway to turn off Email Alerts at night?

I am looking for a way to turn off email alerts at night.  I just don't want the sound to wake me up.  I know I can manually change my volume each night to phone calls only, but I was wondering if there was an automatic way of doing this?
I don't want to auto on/off my phone either because it's is the only phone I use in my house.  Never know if there will be an emergency at 2 AM and someone needs to call you.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • How do you turn off in app purchases on iMac?

How do you turn off in app purchases on imac?

I'm assuming you mean by using the Mac App Store, if so AFAIK  you cannot turn them off. However if you want to prevent someone from making purchases change your AppleID password and don't give it out. Without the password they cannot make purchases. Either that or you can simply sign out. How you sign out in the Mac App Store is Under Quick Links click Account then click Sign Out. Once you are signed out no purchases can be made.

If you just have personal (using BIS), you can setup messages filters on your carrier's BIS website.
If you're on a BES you'll have the choice on the device to filter your corporate emails (under Messages | Options | Email Filters). Personal emails will still be done from your carrier's website.

  • How do you turn off email preview

I have turned off email preview in settings, however the preview still remains.

Turning off the email preview in settings only removes the lines of text from the inbox list.  Other discussion on this topic indicate there is currently no way to turn off the preview pane (window) that appears behind the list of emails on the left hand side.
