How do I turn off iMessage on my iMac after the security update?
When I click messages it shows my messages. In preferences, i click messages and it takes me back to my messages. How do I get to settings?

Hi,
Open the Messages app.
Go to the Preferences item in the app's Menu.
Select the account pane in the Preferences.
Each active account should have a tick in the Enable this Account box.
This can be unticked.
This will stop accounts logging in but will not stop the app Launching in certain circumstances.
First of all check the app is Quit before shutting down the computer.
The fact the app is open even if all windows are hidden can cause the app to restart when you Start up the computer.
Messages is a Multiple window app and using the red button on the top left of a window only closes that window and does not Quit the app.
Also check the System Preferences > Users and Groups > your account > Login Items tab.
This will list items that are set to Start up when the computer does.
I have a couple of External Drive on other computers, some Anti Virus software and the common iTunes Helper plus an old version of TextExpander that will work if I launch the Preference Pane this way.

A quick question about that - I had discovered that same process you described above, BUT in my scenario (I have 3 iMacs, and one of the is at our Business and we don't want our employees reading our imessages, but want them to benefit from the syncing of all the other things like Calendar, Emails etc, which we have been doing for the last 3 years). My question is: Will signing out of icloud (from within preferences in imessage) aside from simply "unselecting enable", then sign me out of all icloud features? Or will it simply just deactivate imessage because it's being done from within the Preferences inside of iMessage? I want to make sure that doing the "sign out of iCloud", (from within the imessage application) that it wont sign the entire imac out of iCloud because we still want our business imac to have access to all the other cloud features, like the apps, calendar, email etc. Just NOT the iMessages.
Sorry, I bet this is written more confusingly than it needed to be, but hope you understand what I'm asking. Thanks in advance! -
How can I turn off imessage for just one of my contacts? Me and my husband just upgraded (both had iphone 4), I got the iphone 5s and he got he note 3. All my text to him automatically send as a imessage. Ive tried to delete his contact and then went back in and reentered it but that doesnt work.
Have your husband text the word "stop" to 48369. This should take his number out of the iMessage system.
Go into your settings under messaging and make sure the box to send as an SMS if iMessage is unavailable is checked.
Hopefully this will get your messages sending/receiving to each other. -

I have an ex who won't leave me alone and is, for want of a better descriptor, toxic to my whole life and everything in it.
He has iMessage on his phone so I need to know how to turn it off on my end so I can block him.
I have an iPhone 5 - dunno if that helps.He can still text you, and turning off iMessage won't stop that.

Help!?You do not see this? Did you ever set up Messages on the iPad? Are you sure that you are not in the next Screen? Do you see a button "Messages" in the upper left corner of the screen thsat you are in? If so, tap it to move back one screen.
