How do i turn off "may b an app dwnld'd from internet, do u want 2 open it"

the message reads something like "_ may be an application downloaded from the internet, are you sure you want to open it?" i use safari and it comes up on ever mpg, avi, qt and some audio file formats. incredibly annoying because i download a lot of movies and songs cause im a amateur moviemaker and musician. i prob download 50 such files a day. the worst thing is that sometimes the machine hangs for like 10 secs before the message comes up. i tried lasso'ing all of them and double clicking, but that doesnt seem to work either. leopard says "ha ha, nice try" and the message comes up anyway.
there must be many people as annoyed with this as i am. every mpg, avi, audio file, etc. that i download shows this message and makes me click continue before the file that i double clicked on will open. i double clicked on it, of course i want to open it. there must be a way to shut this crap off, like terminal or something. ive looked everywhere and even called apple who said you cant shut it off and thats it. they also explained to me that they dont support terminal - uh, hmmm... ok???
this is a new leopard thing cause it sure wasnt here in tiger. this is one if the doxens of things that i hate in leopard but if i could get this to shut off, i wont be as annoyed. i searched the forums but dont know how to phrase the question because i cant type the whole long message that comes up. also i dont know what catagory it would be in - finder, security or usage?

If they are part of the video, which sounds like is the case, then you can not turn them off. While the content in question is playing hold down the select button. It will bring up a menu to let you select what ever caption options are avialble. If there are no options they are part of the video and can not be turned off.

In previous version of iOS, after you updated apps in the App Store, the Updates tab in the App Store would go blank until there were more updates. But now, the Updates tab shows a list of apps that were updated and it sorts by date. Anytime I go in there, it makes it look like there are a bunch of updates to install. Is there a way to turn this off so that it only shows apps that need updating, not the apps that have been updated already?

I guess I've personally never needed to know when I updated an app or to have a list of apps I've updated. Wouldn't this be a problem in the future when you have years of updates to scroll through? It just seems like that would unnecessarily increase the load time of the Updates tab. It would still be nice to have an option to turn that off or at least make it a collapsible menu item or something.
I could see where it might come in handy if you have the automatic app updates turned on, but I have that turned off since I like to see what changes an app is making before I install it, so I don't need that turned on since I manually update my apps.

I'm running Firefox 22.0 on the Mac, OS X 10.6, Java 6 SE fully updated on the Mac. I have corporate web sites I must use throughout the day that have Java applets associated with them, one of them being the Ephox web text editor. EVERY TIME I open a page that has the editor being invoked on it, I get FOUR messages that say "This application's signature has been verified. Do you want to run this application?" Two of them will have the name of the editor. Two of them will have blanks. ALL of them show "ALWAYS TRUST content from this publisher" as checked. RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN.
Although I have a number of addins installed, I have had to disable them to get these apps to load without crashing.
NOTE that this does not happen in Firefox 22 on Windows 7; nor did it with the same apps (no upgrades at the corp. website) on Firefox 18 or 19 on the Mac.
Help???

No, I said bought on iTunes with my iPad. A computer was not used. I bought season 1 of the Waliking Dead and my iPad auto queued all 6 episodes in HD for download. I do not want to download 36 gigs of video... I just want to watch them on my Apple TV.
In retrospect, I should have just bought them on my Apple TV or desktop and not my iPad.
But now the videos are in my dl queue and I can't cancel the dl, only pause.

I have done this for every app except the few that I actually want notifications from. It's not working though, I am still receiving notifications from apps that haven't been used!

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't make sense to me. If a restart is required for that setting to take effect, I would expect the phone to prompt for a restart after changing the setting. I would also expect that the Genius who told me about the setting to mention that it needs a restart. Then again, the Genius obviously didn't give me good information.
I'll try clearing my notifications and restarting anyway. It's worth a shot.

I was afraid this was the case. To the degree that Apple marches down this well-travelled road towards making money by trying to pound customers into submission with flashing ads, etc. that actually serve only to aggravate and drive away at least people like me (28 year user of macs) from both Apple and whatever is being advertised, and indeed get in the way of my being able to efficiently do what is my part of what I always thought was the core of the synergism between Apple and its customers -- them innovating to provide the best tools to help us to be creative and productive, then the company will find itself sharing that space with myriad other companies so bankrupt for ideas and innovation that they have no other possible strategy that to promote mindless consumerism. That does not seem a place of strength for Apple and a complete forfeiting of its unique position. Sad to watch.

Currently, that isn't possible on the iPhone. Turning on the passcode lock only prevents a message preview from showing up. You still get a pop up saying who the message is from.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts
Select the "My Account" account, and select Login Items.
Remove iTunes helper.
When you are done troubleshooting use the Go menu to get iTunes helper back in the startup items to go to folder, and type this as the path to your folder:
/Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources
There you'll find the iTunes Helper, which you can drag and drop back into the Login Items.
