How do I turn off message preview?
How do I turn off message preview on the update 5.1.1? It's not in the usual settings and message options.
Settings>Notifications>Messages>Show Preview>Off.

Hi,
Open the Messages app.
Go to the Preferences item in the app's Menu.
Select the account pane in the Preferences.
Each active account should have a tick in the Enable this Account box.
This can be unticked.
This will stop accounts logging in but will not stop the app Launching in certain circumstances.
First of all check the app is Quit before shutting down the computer.
The fact the app is open even if all windows are hidden can cause the app to restart when you Start up the computer.
Messages is a Multiple window app and using the red button on the top left of a window only closes that window and does not Quit the app.
Also check the System Preferences > Users and Groups > your account > Login Items tab.
This will list items that are set to Start up when the computer does.
I have a couple of External Drive on other computers, some Anti Virus software and the common iTunes Helper plus an old version of TextExpander that will work if I launch the Preference Pane this way.

How do I turn off the preview pane in Mail
I am trying to turn off the preview pane in Mail - ultimate goal is to stop have mail mark a message as read just because I scrolled over it. I don't want a message marked as read unless I actually open the mail item.
fond this thread continually in earlier discussions from 2009-2011 - but othing more recent. Surely this has been fixed by now.
ThanksDrag the divider between the message list and the preview pane all the way to the right. It will pause about a 3/4 of the way, but keep dragging and it will go all the way over.

My cpu uses a lot of cpu during HDV captures, and I know that a lot of it has to do with the live preview (ie, the window that shows you what is being captured). How do i turn this live preview off? Thanks
If the metronome got recorded on your track from a mic with it coming out of your speakers (the only way it could have been recorded) there's no way to take it out. When you say you turned it off, did you just uncheck it in the control menu? Or did you go to the preferences and change its behavior there? I have mine set for recording only, not on playback. But if you turned it off in the control menu, then it should not be present, unless you inadvertently recorded it from your speakers as I described, and it is not going anywhere. This is one reason it is best to monitor your recording with headphones and not speakers, since anything that comes out of them will be recorded with a live mic close by.

How can I turn off messages on iPad while students are at school
Is there any great way to turn off messages on the ipad without shutting down the ports required to connect to Apple on the firewall? Kids will be kids but teachers are pressing administration for solution. If you shut off messages, I may be mistaken but you can't restrict the kid from turning it back on correct?
If you own/control the iPads that run iOS 6, you can turn off Messages via Apple Configurator or an MDM solution and the students would, to the best of my knowledge, not be able to turn that back on without knowing the Restrictions passcode. For personally owned iPads, the only way to block Messages would be to block the ports at your router. Messages uses port 5222, so if you block that port, that should block the transmission of messages, though the students will still try. For more information on ports, see:

Of course if the student has a cell connection on a personally-owned device, there won't be any way you can block the sending of messages at all.

How do you turn off email preview
I have turned off email preview in settings, however the preview still remains.
Turning off the email preview in settings only removes the lines of text from the inbox list. Other discussion on this topic indicate there is currently no way to turn off the preview pane (window) that appears behind the list of emails on the left hand side.

How can I turn off messages for certain Action Center items?
I'd like to find a way to turn off messages for Windows Update, Network Firewall and Windows Backup. Ideally I'd like to do it with Group Policy however I can't find a policy for this. We're deploying Windows 7 right now and we'll need a solution that's domain-wide.Orange County District Attorney

I've found some archived threads on this subject, but with no real answers on them.
iOS's "Messages" app allows you to choose wether to show (or not) the contents of a received message on a lockscreen notification.
How can I confiure that in skype? I'm just finding an option to disable lock screen notifications altogether which is far from useful.

Hello,
i have had this issue starting with an old iphone 4. Even though the option to show preview was disabled, the sms content still appeared on the screen. I have upgraded to an iphone 5 and 2 days ago upgraded to an iphone 6. The option is turned off in Settings>messages> show subject field, yet it does nothing. I suspect I still get this error because I have restored the backups with itunes when setting up the new devices (both the iphone 5 and 6). Can someone guide me through getting rid of this? It is really annoying.

That is not the setting to turn off the SMS preview. That is the setting to turn off the Subject field when composing a message. The setting you're looking for is Settings>Notifications>Messages>Show Preview>Off -
