How do I turn off programs running in background

With the upgrade to i0s 6, my ipad is using up battery quickly and I can't turn off the programs running in the background

Double click the home button, touch and hold an app along the bottom until they all start to jiggle and get a red circle with a minus sign, touch each red circle and that app will be dismissed...do that for each app.

Double-tap on the Home button. You will see a preview of the app above the actual icon. Slide the preview up to kill it.

how to turn off programs running in the background in the background on iPad

Most apps do not run in the background on an iPad. Their stae is kept in memory so that when you start the app again it will load quickly at the location you last used it. But you can remove these apps from the Recently Used list. Here's how:
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.
Some apps do refresh in the background if you have that Setting turned on. You can control apps there individually or turn off Back Ground App Refresh completely in the Settings App.
Settings > General > Background App Refresh

How to turn off programs running in the background withiOS7?

I would just add that it is not necessary. The programs referred to are only the recently used programs, and are not "running in the background" with the sometimes exception of GPS apps and music apps. They are simply dormant in the memory. The operating system will remove these programs if the space is required.

I just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS7.  How do I turn off apps running in the background? Double tapping the home button and turning each one off doesn't work on the updated iOS.

Double click the Home button and "slide" the open apps 'UP" with your finger, they will disappear.

They changed it a bit, but you can still close apps. Double click the Home button to pull up the currently running apps. Side scroll over to the app you want to close, then swipe up on the app *window* (not the icon at the bottom).

My iPad is low on memory and it says to turn off apps running in background . How do I do that

    Hello Skittles1202
It sounds like more of the storage of your iPad is full. Plug it into your computer and check in iTunes or on your iPad go to Settings > General > Usage and it will sort out in order of what is taking up the most space. Once you figure that out you can either delete what is not needed or import any photos that you may have to your computer. If you want to close out any application that you may have open previously, then double tap the home button and then swipe up on any app that you want to close

How do I stop apps from running in the background?

Do you mean u have no idea what apps they are? You could try Activity Monitor, but be careful there that you won't close / quit apps which might be needed by your system..
If you have some apps which startup in the background when logging in, you can find it in system preferences -> Users & Groups, select your user and then select the tab Login Items.

  • How do i turn off apps in the background on 3g

on my wifes iphone4 yu can turn off the apps running in the background by double tapping home key and turn off individual appa can you do that with my iphone 3g??????

Your iPhone 3G simply does not support multitasking, so you have no need to "turn it off" for individual applications, it's always off.
Continuing though, are you looking to quit applications as a way to regain battery life or quicken the iPhone's performance? Performance issues can be helped by updating from earlier versions of iOS like 4.0, and the like to a later version, like 4.2.1. This can be accomplished by plugging the iPhone into your Mac or PC and selecting "Update" in the iPhone's "Summary" tab in iTunes.
