How do I turn off the sound on ads which are on autoplay?

There are ads on webpages that start playing sound for no reason at all and there appears to be no way to stop these sounds. So, I am forced to mute my computer until the ad stops playing which can be minutes or hours or until I find the webpage that is playing the sound. In IE, there is a way to turn off sound from webpages but I haven't found that in Firefox yet. Perhaps this is something you can fix.

Try these about:config settings
:media.autoplay.enabled user set boolean False
:browser.sessionstore.max_concurrent_tabs user set integer 0
I notice that the second one for me is 3 (default), don't know if I changed it or or if Firefox did.

I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
Hope that helps

That's the most stupid thing. It may work but the phone shouldn't be going off in your ear while in use from the start.

How can I turn off the scrolling movie ads across the top of the screen when I open the itunes store and am in the movies section?

Thanks varjak paw.
I was afraid this was the case. To the degree that Apple marches down this well-travelled road towards making money by trying to pound customers into submission with flashing ads, etc. that actually serve only to aggravate and drive away at least people like me (28 year user of macs) from both Apple and whatever is being advertised, and indeed get in the way of my being able to efficiently do what is my part of what I always thought was the core of the synergism between Apple and its customers -- them innovating to provide the best tools to help us to be creative and productive, then the company will find itself sharing that space with myriad other companies so bankrupt for ideas and innovation that they have no other possible strategy that to promote mindless consumerism. That does not seem a place of strength for Apple and a complete forfeiting of its unique position. Sad to watch.

• How can I turn off the sounds of the firefox? I don't want to turn off my whole computer sounds, but just the sounds which comes from the internet. Is there any master button?

All the websites doesn't allow you to turn off the sounds, but that is just the thing I need to do. So how can I turn off the web browsers sounds? This is so small thing, that I refuse to believe that this kind of button doesn't exits.

In Vista you can set the volume and mute setting for each application separately in the volume mixer.
You can click the Volume icon on the Windows Taskbar near the clock and click the Mixer link at the bottom to open the mixer.
You can adjust the volume level for each application in that window.
You will only see the Firefox program in the Mixer if you are on a website that plays sound.

• How do I turn off the sound effects on Pages 2?

The chirping sound that the blinking cursor makes is driving me crazy. (The computer emits other sounds as I move the pointer over the document as well.) I've tried turning off my computer speakers, turning down the computer's general volume, all to no avail. I'm new to Pages, and I see no reference to my problem in Apple support materials or the forums. Help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, the sound problem is unique to Pages. The sounds stop when I switch to iTunes, Safari, Word, iPhoto, any other simultaneously running program. The sounds on Pages are in sync with the speed of the blinking cursor or of the moving pointer. And when I stop the cursor from blinking by highlighting a phrase in the document, the muted but discernible chirping sound also stops. I hope this description is helpful! Thanks.

• How do I turn off the sound when an error message pops up?

There is an anoying sound when an error message pops up in FF. I looked in the preferences but there doesn't seem to be an option to disable it.

Settings may have changed in a couple years in Ubuntu but this gives an idea of where to look.
Firefox itself does not have such sound notifications.

There are three ways to mute. You can use the side switch, use Control Center, or hold down the down volume button until the window says mute.
Edit. No side switch on iPhones. There are two ways.

how do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

You don't. You may find some third-party software that will, however. Try Auto Mute.
Alternatively, you can try this:
I think this is the best and simplest solution. Open a Terminal window and type (or copy/paste) the following to turn down the startup noise:
sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume="%00"
Press RETURN.
And to restore it to the original value type:
sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume
Press RETURN.
That's all folks.

• How do we turn off the notification clicks? I set "Notifications" to "Silent" in the "Sound" settings.

How do we turn off the notification clicks in the Galaxy S5? I already set Notifications to Silent in the Sound settings.

Go into settings > sounds > volume > slide both system and notifications volume full left. This will lower the sound output to zero.
System notifications are a pop-pop sound made whenever a key pad entry is made or a new command or change is made to the system itself. B33 .tikibar1 But you will not have any notification sounds at all if you do this.

You have to jailbreak your phone to do this, voiding all warranty & support. Just flip the Ring/Silent switch when you send.
