Need to turn off the word prediction on my macbook pro... it's a new 15" newest software etc... forums and email are a problem with this feature...

System Preferences, Language & Text, Text - uncheck "Correct Spelling Automatically". Most applications also have a setting for this under Edit > Spelling and Grammar.
In various applications you can also adjust the preferences for text substitution via Edit > Substitutions.

There is a stuck disc, and I can't get to an Apple store/service provider for a few days. I think that something is blocking the disk drive, no matter what way I try to force eject, it attempts it, and then it just re-starts running the disc. It also sounds like it is mis-aligned, with a loud variable whirring as it spins. Is there any way to just turn off the disc drive so it stops trying to run the DVD?

So have you tried all the tricks posted online? The best one for me is to take a thin piece of plastic like from a salad container. Fold it over and make two "lips". Insert that into the drive and it will help guide the disc out.
Is your MBP under warranty? Then take it in. Don't void your warranty.

Disconnect the optical drive cable. If it's really stuck and you feel up to it you can take the drive out and and take it apart (guides all over the net) to remove the disc.
However it sounds like the disc isn't that stuck so any of those tricks should work.

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.

I open Word documents on my Mac using Pages and textedit without any problems.
I also have a copy of OpenOffice and it can also open Word documents without any problems.
Could you please provide more details on exactly what you mean when you say you having troubles opening Word documents? What kind of troubles?

If you have access to another Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion with an optical drive, you should be able to use the Remote Disc feature to access the optical drive on that other Mac.

I'm trying to extract HTML from Word and one way to do that is to save the Word file as a .htm file and then View Source in a browser and copy that. But the words are wrapped in the View Source file. I want each paragraph to be all on one line. Is there a setting for the View Source feature that will turn off word wrap?
Once I have that done and copied into a plain text editor, I will use Search>Replace to get rid of all the stuff Word puts there and just end up with the simple paragraph tags at the end of each paragraph, all on one line.

You can disable wrapping and syntax highlighting in the View menu in the Edit > View Source window.
