Just got my new apple tv ( latest version). I have connected hdmi out to the tv and optical out to my old A/V receiver. I have also appropriately made all the assignments on my receiver for optical in. Not getting any sound from digital out of apple tv to my receiver. Want to use my surround speaker set up. Please advise how to turn ON digital out on apple TV.

Hey gd6784,
There are several versions of Yahoo Mail and they are each a bit different. Without knowing which version you use, it's difficult to help. I'd suggest you look at the [http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=product&locale=en_US&y=PROD_MAIL_ML Yahoo Mail support documentation] as it will have more detailed information.
If you search for [http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=answers&startover=y&y=PROD_MAIL_ML&source=answers.landing_search&locale=en_US&question_box=out+of+office "out of office" in their documentation] you'll see different articles that explain how it works and it will tell you which version of Yahoo Mail each article applies to.

how do I turn off optical digital-out port?

Just want to report that I too, running 10.6.5 on a MacBook Pro, had the mysterious " Audio Out Stuck On Optical Digital-Out Port" problem whereby I was unable to adjust the volume on my built-in speakers and they were permanently "muted" because the operating system was sending the audio signal to a non-existent device that it falsely thought was plugged in to my unused headphone jack hole. I thought at first the problem must necessarily be software-based because the built-in speakers worked fine when playing the start-up chimes. So I uninstalled something called "Soundflower" which does some mysterious shenanigans with commandeering the internal audio signal so that one can make audio recordings of one's computers' sound effects. But uninstalling Soundflower had no effect. So I uninstalled some other audio-related software, also to no avail. Then I zapped the PRAM, to no avail.
Then I decided to try what some people call "the toothpick trick," i.e. poking around in the headphone jack hole to see if something was stuck in there shortcircuiting it, and initiating the false signal to the OS.
    Bingo! Success!
Actually, I did a hyper-sophisticated version of the toothpick trick:
First, I own a home "otoscope," one of those doohickeys that doctors use to look into your ear. One can now buy amateur versions of otoscopes for home use, to looks for kids' ear infections, etc. (They only cost $30 or so.) Anyway, using the smallest attachment designed for babies' ears, I was able to look (with illumination) into the headphone jack hole and yessiree there was a big bunch of dust stuck way deep in there.
So then I took not a toothpick but instead a slender dental prong-pick thingie made of stainless steel, and very delicately was able to snag the clot of dust deep in the hole at the bottom on the first try. Quite a wad!
Then I took one of those rubber ear-bulbs, used for cleaning out your ears, and used it as a micro-vacuum-cleaner: Squeeze the rubber bulb til it is as empty as can be, then place the tip of the bulb at the entrance to the headphone jack hole, then suddenly release my grip: it ***** air out of the tiniest spaces! After doing this a few times, I then did the reverse and blew blasts of air into the hole.
After all this, I looked back into the hole with the otoscope, and it was sparkling clean! Not even the tiniest speck of dust in an area that just three minutes earlier was thick with dust.
I then turned my computer back on and...problem solved! The audio worked again like normal, and it was no longer detecting an imaginary "Optical Digital-Out Port" device. The internal speakers once again worked as normal, and the volume could be adjusted.
I guess the problem for me really was dust causing a short-circuit. It might very well be the same for you -- so try cleaning out the headphone jack hole as I did.
I'm writing this detailed description to help anyone else in the future with a similar problem.

My MacBook Pro has no audio.  Sounds preferences showing output is Optical digital-out port.  How do I change this to built-in speakers?

I experienced this same problem yesterday on my MacBook Pro,  still searching for a solution, several other posts here indicate people have been experiencing this since at lease 2007.  I have  yet to find a clear solution.
It appears that occasionally inserting headphone causes this, it turns on the Optical digital-out port feature (red light glows inside the headphone port) and takes away the internal speakers option.   Restarting did not restore it, but for some reason after sitting asleep overnight the sound started working again and the internal speaker option return in the Sound - Output Window, and the Optical Digital-out option went away.

Stuck in headphone (optical digital-out port) mode. What do I do? Plugging and unplugging headphone jack no help.

Do you see a red light in the headphone jack?? If you do, then the microswitch is stuck and you need to turn it off. Try poking it with a toothpick.
If you don't see a red light, then try resetting the SMC and PRAM and see if these helps. Here are the links.

If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the internal switch is stuck.  Insert the earphone plug a few times and see if you can trip the switch.  If that fails, insert a cocktail stirrer and the like and jiggle it around inside.  If that fails, take it to an Apple store and have the technicians at the genius bar do it for you.
    Ciao.

  • Turning off digital audio port

One of my teachers MacBook's audio out port is glowing and I can not use the internal speakers for out put.  A head set can be used.  There is only a digital option in the sound preference panel

When the insert and withdraw jack plug doesn't fix it, this does:
My solution for "No Sound Output to MacBook Speakers" - Re-route Sound Input / Output
I have had this problem on my MacBook Pro, and tried EVERYTHING Apple & Forums suggested - SMC reset, PRAM reset. Apple advised me to send it in for servicing. Since it isn't covered by warranty, I didn't want to do that.
If you do not want to pay Apple to fix your MacBook optical sound jack hardware, you can overcome the problem with this procedure I came up with myself, which overcomes the hardware failure caused by the headphone jack optical sensor thinking something is plugged in there when there isn't.
Ironically, this solution requires a jack be inserted into the headphone jack. Annoying, but workable and free.
Step 1. Plug headphones in (don’t worry, you won’t use them)
Step 2. Change System Preferences -> Sound -> Change Internal Speakers to an Input!
    Step 3. Done!
Obviously when you do want to use the headphones, you must revert this setting.

  • KT4 Ultra - How do I enable optical digital out?!

OK, guys, now I'm this far: |            | from going totally nuts here. How on earth do I enable digital out on the onboard C-Media soundcard on the KT4 Ultra? I used to have the KT3 Ultra, and that had a special mixer setting that did that trick, but I can't find anything here. I have heard mentioning of an MSI control panel item, but I have none. Is this a fault from my installation of the mobo, or does it not excist?
Hope somebody can help me, I have done without this for quite some time (I hadn't even connected the sound bracket), but with my main optical soundcard blown I really need this now!
Thanks a lot in advance!  8)

Thanks again. I did, and it worked. The amusing thing is that afterwords I tried uninstalling the apps, and the digital still worked. So now I get to keep the digital output without any annoying extra sound apps!  :D
My next project is probably impossible: I'm trying to get a Zoltrix Nightingale Pro 6 to work with digital output. I actually had it working nicely side by side with the C-Media interal soundcard (it just renamed the interal soundcard to "C-Media xxx 2"), but I could not get digital output. So my guess is that they are mutually excluding. But I can probably put the Zoltrix in another computer and run that zone (we're talking multi-zone sound system here) from that PC.  8)

  • Can I enable both a bluetooth audio device and digital-out port at the same time?

Hi!  I just got a bluetooth speaker and want to use it at the same time as my audio-out port which drives speakers in another room.  In preferences, the iMac wants me to choose one or the other...  Is there a way to enable both at once?
    Thanks!

You probably should not be using a keyboard bluetooth profile for a scanner, I am not a developer for apple so do not know the location for you to find out the correct profile you should be using for an input device that is not a keyboard. Sorry,
I am sure if you navigate the apple developer site you will probaly finmd what you're looking for.

  • How do I get a digital out task to only generate port 0?

    HI;
I have a VI into which I feed a DO 9476 task. When I created the task, I selected port 0 (which was the only option). When I run my VI, I get an error that tells me I'm looking for 8 bits yet the task feeds in 32.
See the attached VI and error screen shot.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Solved!

    4BoysDad,
It seems you are trying to output to the port (which has 32 lines) instead of a collection of lines.  When you create the task, instead of choosing Port Output, choose Line Output, and select the 8 lines you would like to write to in the next dialog (shown below).

  • 2009 Mac Pro no audio out from Line Out and/or Digital Out.

Hey guys, I recently bought a new tv which has an optical input and thought I'd buy an optical cable to connect it to my Mac Pro's (4.1 model 2009 I believe) digital out port which I have never used before .
The issue I'm facing since is that I can't get out from my mac pro to my tv. I also bought a cable to direct sound from my mac pro's line out, to my tv's red/white stero audio ports. That didn't work either.
When I select Digital out as the default audio output in Sound preferences the OS says that there are not default audio controls for that device and the sound icon in the menu bar is greyed out while when I switch to line out output I can control volume but no audio is coming from my TV.
I've been searching on forums and didn't find any relevant answer so if someone knows what may cause this that'd be really helpful.
*ALSO: I've got windows 8 instaleld on my mac pro as well. The digital out doesn't work there as well although the line out does send sound to the TV.
** I also have soundflower installed and perian although I don't think any of them would mess things up like that.
Do you think this is a problem with my Mac or is this a common Mavericks issue (sorry forgot to mention I'm on 10.9.2)
    Many Thanks,
    Thanos.

When I select Digital out as the default audio output in Sound preferences the OS says that there are not default audio controls for that device and the sound icon in the menu bar is greyed out
That's normal.  Is the correct audio input selected on the TV?

  • My mac has no sound -sound preferences only gives me one choice digital out?

My mac has lost sound.  Went to prefrences and the only choice I get is optical digital-out port.  no other choices like headphones etc.  The sound indicator is white and there is circle and slash when you hit the volume buttons on the keyboard.  I was trying to record sound into garage band but could not hear the playback.  sound has always been normal on this computer??

Thanks for the help.  I plugged in my headset and that reset the sound .  I think when I was using the external mike I plugged it into the audio out port and caused the problem. When I put the headset into the port everything reset.  Thanks again for you help!
    Cheers,

  • Digital Out - Repeating Problem

    Hello,
Two weeks ago I sent my Macbook in for repair because the digital out port got stuck in this mode rendering the internal speakers useless. The logic board was replaced under warranty. I got my Macbook back and I've just come to use the speakers again and the same problem has happened, after using a normal sized headphone jack in the port.
Is this going to continually happen because it seems a bit stupid that I can't use a headphone socket on my macbook without it breaking every time!

Oops, you say it is working in Windows?   Are you running any system modification programs that edit system cache or preferences?
The worst of these is MacKeeper, which can only be removed this way:
    Do not install MacKeeper
In general, the only maintenance Mac OS X needs is a backup software.  Everything else is just fluff and can cause more system issues than they resolve.

  • Sound output only has option for Digital Out, no internal speakers, and no headphones.

I recently got a new 2012 Macbook Pro 15" and my sound output is not working correctly. The only option is Digital Out - Optical digital-out port. There is no intenral speakers option, nor is there a headphones option when I put them in. I am running Mountain Lion and unfortunately have tried looking up similar posts with no help. I have attempted to reboot the SMC and perhaps one other trick, but I have not had any luck. If anyone has any idea what I should do or if you need more information to make a diagnosis that would be great! To note, it worked fine when I first got the computer, but when I was messing around trying to hook my computer up to an HDTV (i have a thunderbolt HDMI cable that sends sound as well) I had a couple of problems (I think it was because it was a very old Vizio that did not support the HDMI) and perhaps some of the settings got changed on my computer. Anyways thanks in advance!

    Hi,
That is good news! For some reason I only experienced that for a little while before it straightened out itself. But I know that was driving a lot of people crazy. Thanks for pointing out that 10.6.2 did the trick.

  • X-Fi digital out problem with FPS 2000 speak

I just upgraded my old SB Li've! to X-Fi ExtremeMusic.
I connected my 4. digital FPS 2000 Cambridge Soundwork speakers to the digital i/o port at the back of the sound card, but I could only hear from front speakers. Nothing from the rear speakers.
Also when I run the speaker connection wizard, after I pick digital output, the program only allows me to select either headphone or 2. speakers even though I connected to my FPS2000 which is 4. speakers.
Is it because my orginal mini-plug to DIN converter cable from FPS2000 is a 3-pole only and X-Fi digital out port is 4-pole? If that's the case, is it possible to buy a 4-pole mini-plug to DIN converter cable which works for FPS2000?
    Will this cable http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=58&product=0375 &nav=systemRequirements
    work?

Actually you are having exactly the same problem as other users with DTT3500 or 5700 speakers. The X-Fi does not support the DIN connection. The digital-out of the X-Fi is the industry standard SPDIF. This means only 2-channels can be sent!
You should connect your FPS speakers to the analog outs of the soundcard. Quality will be anyway better, as the X-Fi includes modern DACs at 24-bits, which is not the case of the FPS2000 speakers.
