How do I turn on the bookmarks drop down menu?

I just updated to version 19.0.2 (I'm not sure what version I had before) but the bookmarks icon doesn't have the little arrow on it and there is no drop-down below it (on the right side of the screen) when I click on it; the whole sidebar just opens on the left side. how do I get the direct drop-down back?

I wish it were that simple. I don't have 2 bookmark options...

  • Updated to Firefox 19 from 3.6 and want to contol the width of the bookmark drop down menu

I have a bookmark drop down that is as wide as the screen. Because of this I assume that this causes the folders to open on the left instead of the right.
Is there something in about:con fig that I can change to control the width

Does one of your bookmarks has an outrageously long name that you might be able to shorten?
I don't think there is anything in about:config that governs the width of the menu or drop-down. You might need to add a style rule to a userChrome.css file or use the Stylish extension and a userstyle. In order to get specific, could you indicate whether the problem is with the Bookmarks menu on the menu bar, or the drop-down control on the right-hand end of the Bookmarks Toolbar?

  • There is no 'bookmarks manager on the bookmark drop down menu

the firefox help tutorial says , quote 'to open bookmark manager select Bookmarks >manage bookmarks'. It shows 'manage bookmarks' immediately below 'bookmark this page'. The drop down menu on my firefox does not have the 'manage bookmarks' instruction on the menu. I am running firefox 3.6/win vista. and I am finding it difficult to organize my bookmarks .Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello! I have no "manage bookmarks" nor "Organize Bookmarks" on Firefox 4.0.1 There are only: "bookmark this page", "subscribe to this page", "set as speed dial" and "show all bookmarks". Can anybody help me?
Wow, sorry, I found it, it`s just "show all bookmarks".

  • How do I customize the background color of the Bookmarks Drop Down Menu?

The drop down bookmark menu is a very light grey and the highlighting is also very light and hard to see. Where in about:config can I change these colors.
Also is there a way to bold certain bookmark items in the bookmark menu?
    I'm using ver. 19.02

I appreciate the amount of time you put into typing up the example and I'm sure the example is great, but again...I have no idea how to use it or where to put it.
You were supposed to install [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/stylish/ the Stylish extension]. Once installed, there's a new category in the Add-ons Manager called User Styles. In that category, there's a button labeled Write New Style which opens a window where you can paste or write CSS code; click the Preview button to see what how your style affects the interface or a web page, or the Save button to keep it.
Styles in the userChrome.css file cannot be previewed, and any changes only take effect after restarting Firefox. Since the ChromeEdit Plus extension simply allows you to edit that file, presumably it has the same limitations.
    Anyway...

What code would I need to have all the sub menus be the same background color as the main bookmark menu?
<pre><nowiki>/* Menu bar bookmarks menu background */
    #bookmarksMenuPopup hbox {

Note that you can replace '''silver''' with another named color, or an RGB color value.

I wrestled with this one for a while, but I couldn't get it to work, and I gave up due to time constraints. Again, I suggest you head over to the userstyles.org forum and ask there.

How do I designate what menu items I want in bold face?
The relevant bit of information is the bookmark or folder name. Note the value of the label attribute in the above example (the stuff between quotation marks); that's how you show the Recently Bookmarked folder in bold text. You can combine several selectors (the stuff before the first { character) into one by separating them with a comma, like so:
    <pre><nowiki>#bookmarksMenuPopup menu[label="Some folder"],
    #bookmarksMenuPopup menu[label="A different folder"],
    #bookmarksMenuPopup menuitem[label="This one's a bookmark"],
    #bookmarksMenuPopup menuitem[label="Some other bookmark"],
    #bookmarksMenuPopup menu[label="Yet another folder"] {
    font-weight: bold !important;
    }</nowiki></pre>
    You're welcome.

  • I'm running firefox on a Macbook Air 10.6.8, and the bookmark folders in the bookmarks drop down menu don't open when I mouse over them or click on them. How do I fix this?

I've run diagnostics on the mac air, reloaded firefox, and tried eerything I could think of. The 'show all bookmarks' page works perfectly- it's just the dropdown menu that has problems. All the folders have numerous items in them except for one- which only has two. That one works- the pop out menu for that folder comes out on the left side. All the arrows for the folders are on the right side (pointing right) of the of the drop down bookmark menu, pointing at the right edge of the computer screen. The dropdown menu appears on the right half of the screen, close to the edge. Strangely, my main computer is an iMac desktop, and my mozilla bookmarks dropdown menu folders open on top of the dropdown menu, not out on the side.

I figgered it out. The resolution of the screen was set at 600x800, so the bookmarks dropdown menu took up more space than usual. The pop out folder contents didn't have enough room to pop out. With a resolution for a slightly smaller display the drop down bookmarks menu functions perfectly.

Sorting Bookmarks in the Library window (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) is for temporary display. The Bookmarks are not permanently sorted.

  • Why can't I find "organize bookmarks" in the bookmarks drop-down menu? I read that Show all bookmarks has replaced it, but there is no way that I can see to manage/organize them from this screen.

    As stated above

    As you already guessed:
*"Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in Firefox 4 and later.
What do you see when you open that window?

  • After installing the 9.0.1 update for Mozilla Firefox the bookmark icons are not loading on the bookmarks drop-down menu, even though they are loading when I go to Show All Bookmarks. Why?

I am using a Mac and the 9.0.1 version of Firefox

Firefox Help already had an answer for me - should have looked better: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues#w_icons-missing-in-the-bookmarks-menu
IT WORKS PERFECTLY NOW!!! THANK YOU!

  • I am unable to view my bookmarks and the 'Bookmarks' drop down menu will not expand beyond the bookmark folder to display my bookmarks.

When I try to add a new bookmark, I cannot find any of my bookmark folders. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and still have the same problem.

    The screenshot didn't attach.
Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (200 KB) and <u>do not click Preview</u> after you have attached the image.

  • Why can't I scroll in the bookmarks drop-down menu? It used to scroll, now it doesn't.

I have a large number of bookmarks, and the ones I use most frequently are at the top and bottom of the list. There use to be a scrollbar on the side. Now it's gone.

You can achieve this without an extension via code in userChrome.css
Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.

The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Is there a way to make the Menu Toolbar and the Bookmarks drop down appear at the same time?

When I activate the Menu Bar, the Bookmarks drop down menu gets hidden. If I deactivate the Menu Bar, the Bookmarks drop down reappears. I've tried moving the shortcut around but no matter where it is, it goes away when the Menu Bar is active. I'm using Firefox 9.0.1.

That Bookmarks button is supposed to work that way - be hidden when the Menu Bar, with the Bookmarks menu item, is showing.

  • How do I edit the shared drop down menu in sidebar?

I work in a design studio. We have 6 macs that we share files between. There are also close to twenty PCs on our network that I don't need to connect to.
I want to have all the macs at the top of the list for easy access but at the minute I am seeing in, alphabetical order, 1 mac at the top and 6 PCs below.
Has anybody got any ideas as to how I can change the order?

You can do it in OS X. When you click on Customize, you will see an icon that has a star with a drop down arrow next to it (it move the icon next to the other icons at the side of the address bar). Drag this icon to the Customize window & the bookmarks drop down will be gone from the bookmarks toolbar.

  • Firefox 13.0.1 shows my menu bar split over two lines, wasting a lot of screen space. Also, my bookmarks drop-down menu in the bookmarks toolbar is now gone,

Website title and the menu bar used to be on the same top line (I think) - or maybe the website title didn't show on the top line because it was already showing on the tab bar. But now, with Firefox 13.0.1, I have five lines of stuff (from the top, they are: website title; menu bar (File, Edit, etc.); Tabs line; Navigation toolbar/line; bookmarks toolbar) before I get to my actual webpage screen. It used to be four lines, which was tolerable.
Also, the bookmarks drop-down has disappeared from the bookmarks toolbar - I used to have it on the far right of the bookmarks toolbar.

    Hello again,
Getting rid of the menu toolbar, the tabs returned to the top and the bookmarks drop-down returned to the right-side of the bookmarks toolbar. I don't know how I had changed the settings - possibly my toddler fiddling with the keyboard..
    Thanks for trying to help!
