Go to Settings-Sounds-Text Tone and change to None. You're referring to the sound when posting a message to someone else, correct? The only issue is if you set to none, you will not hear the incoming either.

This is somewhat related to the turning off question. (Thanks for the answer to that one, by the way. )
For some reason, the screen on my Centro won't stay off. I'll hit the power button, and the screen will go blank, but I'll look at the phone a few minutes later, and the screen will turn on again. I'd like to keep the screen and touchscreen off until I need it to save the battery.
I'm using PowerMan to conserve power, if that has any bearing on this. Thanks!

You can put your iPhone into screen-lock mode (also called sleep mode). It is not off when in this mode: It can still receive calls and other data, but it will not respond to touches on the display, it will not display anything on the screen (except briefly when new data comes in, such as a phone call), and will use much less battery power.
You can place your iPhone into sleep mode by briefly pressing the power button on the top.
You can wake your iPhone from sleep mode by briefly pressing either the power button on the top of the home button just below the screen.
You can set your iPhone to automatically enter sleep mode after a short period of time within the Settings app.

I went to the link. I selected iPHONE. There was a big iPhone icon above the comment box -- so I was absolutely, positively on the right page. I spent five minutes or so crafting a constructive comment as to why I wanted the full photo feature back on incoming calls on iOS7. Then...i noticed the box below the comment area asked 'What operating system are you on?'. And the drop down selection list included every operating system since Job's garage days -- but not one single iOS entry. No iOS entries on an iphone page. Unless I'm missing something, I think anyone writing a feedback comment is wasting his/her time.

I turn "him" off, but every time I hit play, "he" turns on again, which creates Logic to scroll.... which I do not want....

Turn off "catch when sequencer starts" in your global preferences. This should solve the problem.

Forgive my ignorance; I'm older than you are but newer to this technology stuff. I have a 5G iPod, and I know the manual said hold down the play/pause button space on the wheel to turn it off, but it doesn't seem to shut down; it just goes dark, then, when I press the "play" button, it lights up immediately where it left off. No apple, no boot up (or whatever you call it); just instant on. Am I missing something? I want to shut the thing down.
Also, while we're at it, there's a menu item on the iPod for audio books, but when I download an audio book (not from iTunes) or load one from a CD, it only appears under "music" in the iPod. How can I separate audiobooks out so that, if I want to play music continuously, I'm not interrupted by a lecture?

Ya the Off/sleep thing is how it works. When you hold down the Play button the iPod screen shuts off but the iPod is just sleeping. If you leave it off long enough it will eventually go into a more OFF state and next time you turn it on you will see the apple screen boot up.
Also, if the iPod is not playing and you don't touch it, it should turn itself off (well that sleep mode) in a couple minutes. So you can either leave it and let it turn off or push and hold the play button to force it to sleep. In either case, get in the habit of moving the hold switch (on top) to the hold position so it doesn't get accidentally turned back on in your pocket, a breifcase, etc.
Sorry, I don't listen to audio books, so can not help you on that one.

That's strange behavior for your iPhone, ddavis1727. Do you have a flashlight application installed on your phone? Have you tried turning your phone off and back on? What software version (Settings > General > About > Version) do you have on your phone?
