How do I un delete texts

I accidentally deleted a text l needed (actually cleared a group) from my iPhone. Is there a way to retrieve them?

Basically if you throw away the iTunes .plist file (Chris showed the path to the .plist file in the above post) iTunes will revert the preferences and warnings to their "factory" settings. You should get the warning window back but you'll have to set up your prefs again in iTunes.

    Myself and my girlfriend use the decipher textmessage program. She's on windows and I use the version for my macbook pro. It works cool and lets you save your text messages from your iphone to your computer.     Generally, you can't but... try sending a text to the person and see if some of their conversation(s) returns.  I've seen this happen a few times.

    Open the Messages App to teh messages list. Tap Edit. Tap the minus icon for each mesage thread, then tap Delete. Individual messages can be deleted from teh thread view by tapping Edit, selecting the message , then tapping Delete (lower left).
    Caveat - this will delete SMS messages from the Phone. How long they aactually remain on the server depends on your carrier's policies.

    If those deleted texts are part of your last backup, then you would have to do a full restore from that backup.   That will overwrite any new information on your phone since that backup though.
    Otherwise, there is no recovery.

    I would use a program like iExplorer to perusue your backups.
    1. Search for iExplorer, download it, install it.
    2. Plug in your phone
    3. Click continue with Demo on the lower right
    4. On the left side panel select "Browse iTunes Backups"
    5. From here select the iOS device and then click Messages... now you can look through your messages..buying iExplorer will allow you to search your messages.
    Also, check out DiskAid, I believe it will let you look through your backups and search may work without purchasing, just understand that both programs will have some limitation in demo mode.

    As for the actual process, the most recent back up was prior to my deletion.   Three last questions (I hope...):
    1) How will I know what I need to redownload from itunes?

    No I usually delete texts when they are annoying right away - scammers and things like that.  I feel like I have seen the same number more than once now though and I was curious if it was.  I think I can go through my cellular records and compare the numbers but would like to have the content to.  I will check to see if I have a back up for then but I doubt it - pretty sure I have backed up since then.

    As we know, every time you sync iDevice with iTunes, it will automatically make a backup of your iDevice contents including photos, SMS, reminders, contacts and more. Therefore, as long as you have ever synced your iPhone with iTunes, you can recover deleted text messages from iPhone. Do not connect your iPhone to iTunes again until the messages are recovered with iPhone Data Recovery. Otherwise, the old backup file will be overwritten by the current content on your iPhone. Once it happens, the deleted messages will be gone forever.

    SMS text messages are backed up with the iPhone - whether it's locally or to iCloud. If you've already written over the backup that had them (as in, backed up after the delete) then they're gone.
    If you still have a backup available from a time where you had the messages on your iPhone, all you have to do is erase the iPhone and restore from that backup.
    "Retrieve deleted messages from iPhone" is simple as pie.

    Only way is if you've been backing up yoru phone and that message is included in your backup.
