How do I un-download the iOS 5.1 update?
I downloaded it from my phone and have not installed it yet, and I really don't want to install it after reading many topics. I cannot be without my phone and I do not have any other communications device on hand.
I do not want to accidentally install it, either. Is there a way I can remove the download from my phone anywhere? Please and thanks for any answers.
Richard, thank you for the false information. It did install overnight without my permission.
In other words: If you haven't already, do not even download the update from your phone. It WILL install.
However, I have not noticed any battery loss or signal drops. I am still at full charge and still have five bars 3-5 bars, which I usually have at any given time.

How long is it taking you to download the iOS 5.x update?
I started the download in iTunes and it showed 45 minutes remaining. I am down to about 21 minutes, but these updates take forever to download. I had similar lengthy downloads with the iOS 4.x downloads. I have a 10 MB/s internet connection and am connected on a Wi-Fi network.
I thought the new updates were supposed to be deltas, but even for an non-delta download, these things are interminably slow.
(iPhone 4 updating from iOS 5.0)Thanks for the clarification on the OTA delta update. I just find it amazing how slow these things are. It is quicker and easier to download and update a real OS update (even the non-delta) than this silly thing.

Make sure your internet connection is secure, try downloading the software again and restore the iPad.

You're saying you don't back up your phone regularly? You should ALWAYS back up before updating your phone. That said, try resetting first: hold down the home button and the power button for at least 10-20 seconds until you see the Apple. Hopefully you can then try to perform the update again. Start doing backups if your data is important to you.

I live in South Africa, and I had the same problem with my iPhone 4.
After weeks of frustration and swearing, I was in the process of restoring my phone to a previous iOS. To do that you need to turn the "Find my iPhone" option off, since i turned it off, my problem was solved. No need to repair anything or revert back to old iOS.

By connecting the iPod to its syncing computer amd going to the Suumary pane for the iPod in iTunes and clicking on update.
If you have the latest iTunes (10.5.x) yu can update as follows:
- 1G i (original iPod touch: 2.1.2. To get the last update for the 1G you go:

- 2G goes to 4.2.1
- 3G and 4G to 5.0.1

This is an example of how you can select the exact content that you want to sync to your device. You do not have to sync the entire iTunes library. You can pick and choose the music, apps, books and so on that you want to sync. This is using music as an example.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on only the albums or playlists that you want to sync.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
You can do this with apps, books, movies .... Whatever .... You have the freedom to sync whatever you want.
