  • How to Find Lurking Media Files

    Hi,
I'm trying to clear off a mac mini so I can sell it. The only software on it is Final Cut Express, Soundtrack, LiveType and iLife '05. I deleted everything out of iTunes, and I thought all media files and renders from the couple projects I had in Final Cut Xpress. My problem is there is still 18gigs being used from the internal SATA drive. I realize the software uses space - but not that much right? What could be lurking? How do I find media files if maybe all I really did was delete names and not the actual media??? Any help/insight appreciated!! Thanks.

OK, I went to whatsize (kind folks over in mac mini forum directed me there too!) and from another forum there, I learned how to make the finder show me the size of everything. I don't have any lurking media files as I feared, but it seems LiveType is a big space hog! Does this sound right - almost 8 gigs for LiveType Data folder? The entire Library Folder is over 11 Gigs combined - please forgive how completely un-informed and newbie I must sound....

  • How do I unhide occult files in Finder?  SHOW OCCULT FILES?

    Hello everyone!
I have a file on my pen drive that is a occult file in Windows Explorer. but there's a configuration option there that allows me to see occult files anyway. When I put it into my mac, the occult file obviously doesn't show. How do I make it appear? How do I unhide it in finder?
Thanks so much for your help.

If this is the command you used to show hidden files...
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder
then just reverse it to hide them again...
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean false ; killall Finder

  • HT1391 How to move my media files to another drive with Itunes 11

I am using Itunes 11 on a Windows 7 PC.  My C Drive is full and I am trying to move all my media files to D drive.  While previous versions of Itunes seem  to allow this, the instructions for doing so with Itunes 11 state that files already on the drive will stay where they are even if you change the location of the media file.  Only new files will move to the new location.

    About the iTunes library files
Your iTunes library files track the media you add to iTunes, how you've organized it, and other information such as playlists. By default, these two files are in your iTunes folder:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
    Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
    Windows 7: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
    Windows 8: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\

  • HT1751 How to transfer iTunes media files from external drive to another external drive and bring in the library from the main drive.

I have my iTunes media on an external hard drive while the library is on the main computer drive. I want to move both to a larger external drive. How do I get both together? When I consolidate, it only transfers the media files. Help.

Since I already consolidated, can I just move the library to the root level of the external drive then option click to point to that library? But using that method, all the media files are at the root level along with the iTunes folder. So nothing will be in the iTunes media folder itself. WIll that work?

  • How to have original media files outside libray

I have recently upgraded to 10.1.3 and use the new libraries functionality. I have created different libraries for my projects (by year) and consolidate the project, so, now, I have an event with video files and project inside.
I have realize that I have the original video files inside the library file, so it means that now I have all my videos duplicated, one time on the original folder where I copied, and other inside the library.
I would like to maintain videos outside of final cut library, and do not make sense to maintain also duplicated on the library (I also have a back up on a network drive).
There is an easy way to “link” event files to original location outside of the library? Or I have to manually delete and fix one by one?
    Thanks in advance.

Follow Tom's advice, which tells you how to move the media outside the library - but don't try to move them over the original ones.
At this point, you'll still have two copies of the clips - in the original folder and one on the folder you now selected.
As Tom pointed out, you'll now have symlinks in your library. Now comes the thrilling part.
    1) Erase the recently moved clips - all the clips will be offline, showing as red in FCP X.
    2) Use the Relink functionality to point them to the original folder. FCP X is clever enough that you need only select a superfolder containing the media, even if different clips lay there inside different subfolders.
This should all run smoothly, BUT... As always, back things up first - namely, your library - before doing potentially dangerous thinks like deleting your precious files.

  • How to convert real media files to quicktime for iPod

I want to know how to convert a real media file into a format that is recognizable by my iPod. Do I need to convert it into a Quicktime movie? And if I already have quick time movies on my computer, will they play on my iPod without any need of conversion?
    Thanks

MP4 is the format you need. You will need a third party program to convert it for viewing on your ipod. See this link
    http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123067
There are many freeware programs out there for convertering. Beware of people that will direct you to a site where you have to pay for the program. There are many Spammers on this forum that will try to have you buy a particular program. Do a search for free conversion programs and you will find many.

  • How to free up media files that cannot be delete u...

I watched a couple of videos on the lumia last night. I used the browser to "stream" these by the movie player. The two movies were about 2Gb each.
Now I have no free storage on the device.
I have tried going to storage check and it tells me that of the 7.2G 7.1G is use with 4.4Gb in media files. The next screen ("details") shows an "other" of 4Gb.  How do I delete those temporary files? None of the options work. I don't want to do a factory reset. This is unacceptable. And I don't want a 4GB phone, whenI paid for 8Gb. How do I delete these files and reclaim this space?

  • How do I add media files to iTunes when my iTunes library file is out of date?

My 2007 iMac died. My last backup was done 7 months ago. My iTunes media folder resides on an external drive, so all of my iTunes media files are unaffected, but when I set up my new 2012 Mac Mini using my last backup, my iTunes library file will be 7 months behind. In the past 7 months, I have added around 2,000 new media files to iTunes. So my question is this: what is the best way to add those 2,000 files into iTunes? Is it as simple as drag-and-drop? They are already in the iTunes media folder, I just need to tell iTunes they exist. Thanks for any help!

File > Add to library and select /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder.
Anything in that folder not showing in iTunes library will get added.

  • How can I move media files off C drive?

I have 29 GB of movies and TV shows in my iTunes media files on my C drive.  This is impacting performance of some other programs such as photoshop.  I've changed to location for future downloads to the F drive but still need to free up space on the C.  Can anyone suggest a solution?  Thanks for your help!

Normally I'd suggest you move the entire library to the other drive, but since you've already split things up try my script ConsolidateByMoving. This works by moving files them instead of copying as the regular iTunes consolidate function does. That said, it may be even easier to consolidate the entire library with iTunes and then remove the originals by hand.

  • How can I view media files

This Topic has been Moved for correct placement

I think, that you cannot view just songs after upgrade to P4S. I have the same problem and it is really annoying because I was used to Nomad Explorer. The best you can do is to download MediaSource where you can at least change artist and album in more songs at once.
(this wont change tags, to do this look here: http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=64273&query.id=805 #M64273)
When you want to see individual songs you have to move them to library (also MediaSource because Windows Media Player is really strange).
But I think you just have to get to use to this system...

  • PSE 12 hides Panasonic RAW files. How do I unhide the files?

PSE 12 has a new feature under Preferences/Camera or Card Reader called "Alutomatically Stack RAW and JPEG." Checking this will stack a RAW & JPEG file combination, i.e., when shooting with the camera's RAW + JPEG setting checked. In my case PSE 12 appears to stack my Panasonic RAW files and each JPEG thumbnail shows the right facing arrow to expand the stack. When I click the arrow the arrow disappears but the stack does not expand to reveal the RAW file. The RAW file still exists on the hard drive, but I can't find any way to reveal it in PSE (I've not tried to re-import the RAW files because there are a lot of files in a lot of folders.) This is rather critical and needs to be fixed. Any ideas??

The fact that I tried your scenario with PSE12 and your RAW files rules out any kind of support drop
Thanks for agreeing to share you catalog db.
Please check Help > System Info to find catalog path location. Go to this location on hard disk and share "catalog.pse12db" file with us in the same Dropbox folder. We will look into it to see what went wrong.

  • How do I change media file size?

I am trying to move some movies onto a portable hd but the files are too big. So I'm cutting them up into smaller iMovie HD files by using "split video at playhead" but when I do that, both files are still the same size. So I still can't move them. I tried to cut a video clip that was 8.12 gb in half and now they are both 8.12 gb. ***?? LOL Thanks for any help!

    You just met 'Non-destructive Editing'!
Non-destructive editing is an important feature of iMovie.
iMovie preserves the entire copy of every clip you place into your movie in case you change your mind at a later stage.
So, if you have cut out one minute from a 45 minute clip, iMovie will have stored two complete copies of that clip. This is why is helps to set import as 3-5 minute clips rather than one huge chunk. As DV runs at 13GB per hour your project files can get very big.
One workaround is to complete the editing of a section of the movie, then export that to Quicktime: highlight the clip/s, choose Share-Quicktime, turn on Share selected clips only, and choose Full Quality from the pop-ip menu.
Once you have saved the stand-alone clip to your hard drive, you can re-import it into your project using the File/Import command, and delete the original long clip/s from the project.
